People were afraid Tim couldn’t deliver a hit new product in a new category, but the Apple Watch seems like a roaring success. That’s 50% YOY growth from Q2 last year.

Let's predict that as Apple Watch success continues to dominate the category….. the lagging rivals will issue lawsuits against Apple's success, labeling it "monopolistic".

How long before what happened to the iPhone marketshare happens to the Apple Watch?
Of course Apple is more interested in profits, but I'm almost expecting Android based watches to take over some day.
It won’t be long before smart watch market reaches plateau. iPhone took 12 years. Apple Watch only needs 5 years.

I wasn’t talking about the tech just the design as that hasn’t changed or the AirPods. Nice to see two iconic designs from apple under Cook - boo sucks to the anti cook he can’t innovate brigade here..

It doesn’t. Sleep tracking is complete non-sense. You wake up, you know if you had a good sleep or not.
The data derived from sleep trackers are not giving any meaningful insights if you think very rationally about it.

What is useful IMHO are those apps that track your snoring habits. You get an idea of how severely your are snoring which can be an indicator of health issues you may have.

This doesn't read like its coming from a well informed place. Why not let the sleep disorder guy be the judge of his sleep disorder.

How long of a charge are you getting? I keep reading people who are saying they're getting about two days a charge, which is over twice as much as Apple rates the AW at. The kind of disorder I have makes any kind of routine really hard so charging for an hour every day can be more challenging than it seems.

2 days is cutting it close, but doable. 3 days and we're on for sure.
I can get two days out of the watch. When I recharge at night watch is normally at about 70% charged. In the morning it’s about 75% charge, charging for an hour brings it back to 100%. Your other option is to charge for an hour or so during the day if you find it tricky to charge before you sleep. I use an App called Sleepwatch to track my sleep. I cannot understate how much using the App and the watch transformed my life. Using the data for the watch and App I made a number of changes that resulted in restful sleep going from around 40% to around 75%. I am one of the examples of how using the watch really transformed my health.

Not that common watch where I live, only one of my friends has one and its the 1st gen. none at work has one even they almost everyone has some watch.
I've seen lots of fitbits as I've been running.

I'd probably buy one if the battery would last a week rather than day or two.

Ouch FitBit. At this rate I'm going to have to jump ship to Garmin.

BTW... not a hater post. I want an Apple Watch, but the battery life makes it impossible for those of us with sleep disorders who need sleep tracking.

Me and my OH got series 4 a few months to help motivation with weight and fitness. I have been shocked by how useful it actually has turned out to be. I don't need to walk about with my phone or ipad any more in case of an important message, the amount you can customise it to display what you want and its brilliant for NFC payments.

After a full days use with heart monitoring on i have used 30% of the battery. It should go 48 hours with no problems.

Ok, and so it sounds like you're definitely also using it for exercise tracking too, which I would also want. I'm still a bit baffled by Apple's 18 hour rating though, but if lots of people are getting 2 days out of it, I'll be looking at the S5 release with a lot of interest.

You’re probably right. Eventually, you’ll be able to get an android watch that isn’t cutting edge, but is fast enough and has a micro sd slot for $99.

Health is the future for the watch now. It’s no longer a ‘notification’ device as it once primarily was. Consumers are seeing the tangible benefits to monitor their daily lifestyle through fitness/heart rate monitoring, which I also believe the Watch is a direct result for encouraging a healthier lifestyle.

I recharge every night before I go to sleep, so that I can track my sleep and have a fully recharged watch for next day. Definitely not ideal, but for all the features Apple has provided, I am adapting to this recharge cycle.
That’s my opinion, of course.
Of ALL stuff you put in that wall of text, I give you credit of knowing everything you have said is “your opinion”.
instead of doing something productive, like watching TV.
Watching TV = Productive?
Ok. I have learned something new today.
I'm a bit confused as to what that run time is though. People are telling me 2 days here, but others are implying they go about a day and Apple says 18 hours.
The bottom line is automatically ignore or distrust all marketing materials, whether it is from Apple or not. And use your own experience to answer your burning question.
It also allows me to annoy people like @rikscha.
Lol.

What's your activity level like? Are you also wearing it for exercise and do you use your watch for much else besides checking the time occasionally?
I don’t do a lot of exercise each day, if you use the watch a lot for fitness monitoring it will have an impact, which may mean you need to charge it more. However I am only charging it for about 2 hours a day, and that keeps it fully charged. I use the watch for giving and receiving txts, taking the occasional phone call, when my phone is somewhere else in the house, reminders and meeting appointments, sleep tracking and notifications. I had the original series 0, upgraded to series 3 when it came out, as battery life was much improved and also had an integrated SIM card. Did not upgrade to series 4, but will probably upgrade to series 5.

Also the watch gets used a lot for Apple Pay, I almost never make card payments these days. Apple Pay itself is almost worth the cost of the watch as I have had my debit card cloned twice.

No offense to the 7 people who own an iWatch, much like the 3 people who own the iHomePod, but is this even still a thing? I haven’t seen a single person wearing an iWatch in public. First, this thing would actually be useful if it was round. Don’t care if rectangle is more functional. Circle looks nicer. Second, no one cares about health. Americans are massively obese by choice. Stop shoving health in my face, stupid Apple. I like eating McDonald’s every day, that’s my choice, stop shaming me.

I've never seen not even one person wearing an iWatch. An Apple Watch on the other hand I see...wait, as I type, I'm thinking your post has to be a joke and I fell for it.

Very expensive in my place, it requires iPhone, when I heard of poor battery life, proprietary charger I stop bothering about Apple Watch...I like it's esim feature that you can make calls without iPhone nearby.....but I have Samsung Gear Frontier....which is being used for more than 3.5 years...I intend to use it as long as the battery lasts...very very long replacement cycle

Depending on how much you use it you can get 2 days out of the apple watch 3.

Funny! Americans are fat because we were all duped by our government telling
us fat was bad and carbs were good.
I was one of those. The Apple watch and others like it help you monitor your health.
Quite often I get into discussions with people telling me that my OMAD diet is wrong.
I don't tell them what to eat, I just tell them to buy a blood sugar meter and then we'll have a real discussion.
Once the Apple watch has blood sugar monitoring built in, we're going to have a lot of people realizing that they are either diabetic or pre-diabetic.
Knowledge is power :) Oh and if you want shaming, watch snake diet on YT.
As you were.

I see Apple Watches all the time in public. It was rare a year ago, but now, half the people at the gym are wearing Apple Watches and AirPods. It might be where you live. I work in a business park area with 30-40 year old people with jobs. 1/4 of the people I walk by have Apple Watches.

Depends on where you are maybe? I’ve a bunch of people in my surrounding that has one. From colleges to my PT to a supermarket clerk. But it is far from everyone of course....

Over here in my life I have only ever seen two people with smart watches. One was the Apple thing and the other a Fitbit.
I aspire to a Breitling or Rolex one day.
