It's Glowtime!

Huge difference will be that an X watch will run watchOS 11 but the series 4 can’t. Big reason to upgrade my series 4.
Yep I am on series 4 and will be upgrading to new Apple Watch in September. Battery life also another reason since it slowly dying.

I have Ultra 2 49mm LTE. I don’t think Apple going to bring any ground breaking features in AW unless they bring Blood Pressure (like in Samsung Watches) and Blood Glucose there is nothing I am interested. I am least bothered about their design change and other fancy stuff. Ultra 2 couldn’t detect work outs, unscheduled sleep (which Samsung Watches detect), BP, etc….I like the Ultra 2 Watch Bands and I am settling with it for a foreseeable future.

I hope they fixed it because I did not want to go through that again, the most important factor being was receiving text messages that required my number to help reset my password, without my phone it was impossible so we shall see. I truly hope they improved them this round and make them truly cellular without being tethered to the iPhone.

I mean on Apple’s defense, after turning on Lost mode, apple devices become paperweights and the culprits did reach out asking for a fee to return it back LOL.

Doesn't it depends on the carrier setup too? (Whether the phone has to be turned on).

I honestly think the leaked CAD renders are for the Apple Watch SE. The renders have two speaker grills, which are part of the Series 4-6 design and the current SE. Apple Watch Series 7 and newer have a single unified speaker grill, so my money's on the CAD renders being the new SE rather than returning to a two-grill design for the Series X.

Will be interesting to see what they do with the Watch for this 10 year anniversary. I did like my Watch 5, but switched to a Garmin Epix 2 and haven’t been tempted to switch back since then. I’m also not sure I could give up the ~2 weeks of battery life, round form factor and more masculine look, for what will likely be just iterative improvements from Apple. Heck, if I upgrade to anything it would be the Epix Pro or new Fenix 8 where battery life jumps up to ~30 days.

I agree with your reasoning but, if those CAD depict a thinner device, does that mean the Apple Watch SE 3 will be thinner and lighter? If so, I’ll be really interested in that model…

So it’s only going to be a slightly upgraded Series 9. Great. Wonderful. Super. Totally brave.

Well looks like i may be upgrading my watch this time around if we are getting the bigger screen on the main Apple Watch line, as much as I loved the Ultra, I only really bought it for the screen size, I don't think I used any of the Ultra specific features more than once, its been a great watch but going into year 2 of having it I have been wearing it a lot less due to the bulkiness on my wrist it has been feeling like. If the watch is smaller and thinner like mentioned here, this may entice me to keep it on longer and longer

Glucose ??????????????
Not going to happen soon. The essential technology isn't there yet. But with those penny-sized CGM disks bluetooth-ing to your watch you could basically have the same thing. Better because the disks are more stable on the skin.

No, the CADs depict a thicker device (11.6mm) vs 10.7mm on the Series 9. It lends more credence to being related to the new SE rather than the rumored thinner Series X.

I went from a Series 4 to an 8. That was a big change. The added features and speed bonus were enough of an upgrade for me for it to be worth it.
Did something similar.

Had a SE 2020 WiFi for almost 3 years, and upgraded to the Series 8 LTE.
A big upgrade!

Battery life was the same, but the display is bigger, brighter and AOD.
Performance is better and also more health sensors.

Using my SE at work so I don’t panic if the watch gets damaged, and using my 8 for all other time.

I was considering getting a new Apple Watch, but all the upgrades seem a bit mediocre (from the rumours; we’ll see what gets announced).

As the article mentions, the upgrades are “modest”, and IMO don’t seem like they’d elevate the regular watch to approach the ultra.

But the ultra itself is getting an even more boring upgrade - a new chip and that’s all.

It’s similar to the iPhones where it appears next year will be when they make bigger changes. It’s disappointing that Apple doesn’t seem to have any exciting products this year.
Which are those changes that you need?

Because it just looks like people want something "exciting" over something functional.

I mean.... it's a watch....lol. Unless you are asking for completely round (ie. circle), I can see wanting that. I see Android watches like that and it catches my eye.
I thought about it and then I remembered that I wore a plastic Casio digital watch for 40+ years before I got my Apple Watches. So a square-ish watch is natural for me. Round would feel odd.

At this point, it’s blood pressure or bust.

They are even falling behind in health features.

There will be zero useful AI features available for the watch.

Im fine with the design, but time to start pushing more medical features.

Apple wanted to do this event on September 10 but moved it to September 9 because of the presidential debates (which are scheduled to occur September 10). So the fact that it is on the 9th is not at all related to the watch anniversary. For what that's worth.

It will mostly be the same but with a larger screen, flatter profile and slightly better battery life. Don't get too excited.
