But alas - I'm skipping the iPhone 4 because I have a 3GS and I'm not made of money.:p

I agree that the cost is not something to be taken lightly, no matter what your personal financial situation. However, if a new contract isn't an issue to you, and you are eligible for an upgrade, you should be able to sell your 3gs on Craigslist for more than the 4 will cost. That made it an easy decision for me.

Bravo to You (Xian Zhu Xuande)

@ Xian Zhu Xuande

You said: "Actually, the assumption that having around $300 free = room to pleasantly buy a new iPhone is what is financially irresponsible. It is possible to have tens of thousands of dollars saved up and conclude, reasonably, that $300 for a new phone isn't sufficiently warranted."

I want to commend you for that response. I was going to reply but I don't want to bump heads with anyone.

However, one should never assume. I know people who are smart, but not tech savvy. I know others who are wealthy, but too cheap to get a hotel room and always wanna stay with me :p

There are people who flash things they cannot afford, and there are those who have houses in the Hamptons and drive a hooptie.

But there are also those hit by this recession or another ill fortune, and their finances shouldn't be ridiculed. I respect a person who says that they cannot afford something. That's humble and may make another person think a bit before spending.

I wonder if it changes to an icky yellow/brown colour after a little use like the first generation white MacBooks did?
I'm imagining it more like the Magic Mouse or DS Lite, but with glass instead of plastic to make it even better, and neither of which become discolored at all.

Get one of each!

Sincerely,

AAPL shareholder

dude, why is every post from you about you being an apple shareholder? seriously, how many shares of stock do you own? you act like you're some big baller........ohhh.....you have a few shares of stock that, when cashed in, will prob net you a couple thousand. wow, big deal.

hey everybody, stop and admire cvaldes! he has stock in apple! Ooooh, Ahhhhhh.....

Valdes, if you're so proud about your stock, share all your details with us. I'd be curious to know about all this stock you have that makes you post about it in every post/thread of yours.

Talk about a last minute press release. I've already made up my mind to get the black one.

Yeah, that's likely true but the white iPhones are only going to be as "white" as the lighting allows.. The black is just... black.

My white iPod video after nearly 5 years of constant use without a case (in all it's scratched up glory) is still actually white underneath the fluorescent lighting in my office. If they can manage with the white iPod (which, on closer inspection, seems to be coated with a layer of clear plastic) the white iPhone ought to be fine colorwise.

The reality is that anyone in this forum holding out for a white one will treat it like the holy grail and cover it in body armor, anyway. So here's an idea: Get a black one and put a white casing on it…TA-DAH!

That's smart thinking.

more challenging to manufacturer?

I wonder why?

Could be anything, it's possible that the white turned out a funny color or something while the black was fine. Could be that the white was planned for a separate factory or production line that had an issue. Or it could be that they can get more made fast by just doing one color to start.

whats with the screwed up apple logo on the back?

lol...it's the lighting... in a lot of apple's vid's and pics of the iphone they show part of the iphone in simulated brighter light to show what it should be like when used in bright light/outdoors... the logo is gonna be normal :p

The white phone has that grill at the top that is absent in the black iPhone.

Plus they wannt all the losers to get the black and the V.I.P's to get White.

the grill is actually in both if you look closely enough at the black on... it's just that because it's black it's not as obvious cuz it just blends in...

I have a feeling the "manufacturing difficulties" are related to the slow production of the glass that they're buying from another company (forgot which company...) so probably what happened was they were gonna build the white iPhones after the black ones but ran out of the glass for the front and back of the phone...

Hopefully for those who want the white, including myself, will not have to deal with the hectic launch day environment. Also this will allow, im assuming, AT&T and other retailers to sell the white one, making it easier to obtain.

All about money... Conveinently white paint is hard to come by? Second half of july.. how about 14 days after the 24th... that will work...

Mo Money, Mo Money, Mo Money

I haven't gone through all the post from this member, but are you sure this member isn't talking more in a 3rd person perspective (I.e. Thinking like a share holder and what they would say vs. An actual shareholder). Just a thought.

I've got to say, I flat out refused to buy an ipod till they offered them in black, wouldn't buy a macbook till the Blackbook.. and didn't buy my imac till they went aluminum.

The white always has, and always will look like a cheap toy for kids, not a professional tool.

I miss the old apple that wouldn't explain anything. Steve's gone soft.

Cheap toy for kids?? As a home theater and all things Apple geek, you're off on this one. I know it's not just me. I'm soooo tired of every single piece of electronic equipment being thoughtless, black. TV's, receivers. laptops, phones, etc.

I don't know about you, but I want to stand out in the crowd. Enjoy your "blackbook", that looks like 95% of all Windows crap.

Remember the "Think Different" campaign? You instantly know it's an iPhone when it's white. The black one's look like every other BlackBerry, HTC, and Windows smart phone out there. Blending in is for mindless zombie followers. I'm sticking with different, different is good.

Besides... By then, those of us who patiently waited, the jailbreaking will be solid on iPhone 4... AND NO LINES!!!!!!!!

Get to bed early tonight for your line!

Well said.

Agreed. I got the white iPhone 3GS because I thought it was a very attractive piece of hardware. I won't be getting the white iPhone 4 because I like the appearance of the black one more, but I would have liked to see the white one anyway. The sad thing here are the people who won't buy a white one because they're afraid of what society might label them as. I believe the technical term for them is 'tools'. :p
