Turns out you were just spit ballin info that Cook spit-balled to the Fortune writer, a writer that had to put all kinds disclaimers in the article ...

"Apple hasn’t revealed exact volume or usage numbers, but it has said the service adds one million new users each week. Apple has also said in the past that transaction volume through Apple Pay is five times the amount from a year ago. But without a baseline usage number, it’s impossible know whether the current volume is significant."

Here's the real data, with the real story behind Apple Pay usage ...

Interesting read, I don't use Apple Pay because of Apple, because it used to be not too difficult to activate the function, but since the faster finger print scanner on the 6S it's a faff to activate, I just pull my card out, place against the machine and done, because I have to take either my phone or card out but one is simpler to use then the other.

Interesting. And predictable.

Apple pay offers nothing that a credit card doesn't, except extra steps.

Pay on card = touch on reader.
Pay using Apple pay = touch on reader and authorise using fingerprint.

Apple made no effort to truly push things forward. For example, if everyone that adopted Apple Pay could also have a Apple POS integration that meant my Apple Pay account also held digital copies of my receipts, guarantees and coupons, I'd see a reason to switch.

But as it stands, I just don't get why I should bother.

Interesting. And predictable.

And Apple has only managed to sign-up financial institutions in 11 countries HARDLY worldwide uptake. I was just in Europe for 2 months and used Apple Pay because the countries had contactless pay terminals - every time I used Apple Pay was the first time the merchant/hotel/restaurant had ever seen it.

Well...
Don't expect the sales of iphone 7 to be the same as ealier models when people were still using Nokia 3310.

Everyone who wants an iphone, probably owned more than one already. Selling same iphone units yearly is not possible, its like selling the same people an HDTV 2 or 3 times.

but greed has no limits.

Well, you misunderstood the situation. It'seems not that the production is being cut compared to the previous quarter. That's indeed would be expected. 10% drop is compared to the same period previous year (i.e. compared to iPhone 6S). Just read the linked Nikkei article. So, yes it'a a big problem.
Read post #47. Go ahead. It's simply this time of year again.

This is actually good news for us customers!

Maybe this will be a wake-up call for our Iteration King to head down the stairs screaming "Jony, put away your carvers and take that iPhone out of the hydraulic press - we need something different this time!"

Good news - if Apple takes action. I don't immediately recall the demand for thinner, thinner, thinner... I know that design is part of the experience, but Apple must bring substance back to the table or average customers will go away.

not surprising. i'm returning mine today. first iPhone in 6 years I have done so. I hate the elimination of the headphone jack.
I know, right? Freaking Tim Cook. I wish I was the guy you returned it to I would have a lot of fun. I'll never understand how people think they can buy something knowing full well it does not have an aux cable input and then try and return it down the road because it doesn't have an aux cable input. Welcome to America.

Previous iPhones didn't have headphone jacks? JK. I agree. If the company says a product will be missing a feature and someone purchases said product anyway, they should not be able to return it, or pay a hefty return fee.

I have yet to even use Apple once. I have however used Samsung pay more times then I can count. I use it every week at King Soopers to pay for my groceries because it saves from having to sign.

I just don't think there is much to make people "want" to upgrade. Admittedly my circle of friends is pretty small, maybe 20 or so people, but I can say that for the first time nobody is running out and buying the new iPhone.

I just don't think people are all that excited about a new iPhone. I have usually bought one every year or so. Not this time. My wife and both are completely happy with out 6's. My wife's phone was just paid off so we like the "drop" in our AT&T bill.

My bank, here in Canada, offers Samsung Pay alongside Apple Pay.
I use Bank of the West. They weren't an accepted bank till just a few months ago so I was unable to use Apple Pay at all. I was so exited when I was able to add my banks debit card into Apple Pay but then I found out Apple Pay does't even work at three of the stores I shop at most, yet Samsung Pay does work. I've kind of forgotten about Apple Pay now. My banks debit card began working on Samsung Pay the same tile it did for Apple Pay.

Yeah I can get behind a restocking fee if the item isn't open but what good is an open box used iPhone to a carrier or Apple? They can't sell them as new, so someone is taking a loss for no reason other than buyers remorse.

The experience you have had is not representative of everyone, keep in mind. I've only been able to use my credit card online with Apple Pay because my local bank doesn't support it (yet?). Ive never seen a terminal that said Samsung Pay supported but Apple Pay is accepted at a few businesses I don't typically shop at in my area. The only time I have even heard of Samsung Pay was in a tv ad. I feel like I only know of Apple Pay because it was marketed to me heavily as well.
I don't know this to be true but I wouldn't be shocked if the code for Samsung Pay was open source with no security.

Sadly, Macrumors only care about clicks and has become a feeding ground of whiners who hate Apple and Tim Cook but won't leave this site. Everyone has a right to post drivel. I clicked on a few users to see their history of posts. Some had over 100 posts ripping Tim Cook, Headphone Jack, Macbook Pro sux. I wonder how many times will it take to make people realize they are right? :)

Macrumors has become one of the worst sites to visit daily anymore. There are better sites for news on Apple products that are unbiased (Pro/Con) and more technical information for professionals. This site has become complete drivel and whiners who don't even own Apple Products.

thank you for that useful and completely pertinent information.

We've had Contactless Pay credit and debit cards for years in Canada and the POS terminals and cards only show these

I'd love to know how to get an analyst job, must be nice to be paid to just make claims regardless of the impact or veracity of them. I'd start with a piece on Butterball being in trouble because turkey sales mysteriously slowed down after November...for some unknowable reason.

This was funny as hell. :D

Yeah we may have those symbols but just recently in my area there has been a push for contactless payments. The terminals at my families business just recently got updated for chip readers, not because we are behind the tech, but because no one had cards with chips until recently, here that is. I want to support Apple Pay and Samsung Pay but no one has ever asked if we accept so we haven't upgraded our machines. I imagine that will all change in the next year or so.

I am one who didn't upgrade this year due to the lack of the headphone jack. I've got 5K invested in a pair of earphones and a headphone and am not interested in a phone without a jack.

$A5k on headphones? I only dropped a few £ hundred on mine and would never dream of pairing them with such mediocre audio devices as smartphones, Apple included. What would be the point apart from showing up their shortcomings?

I just don't think there is much to make people "want" to upgrade...
Not sure what constitutes a good number "want" to upgrade when it was estimated at over 40mm have upgraded in the fourth quarter. Demand was incredibly high and lower for the iPad's. They removed the headphone jack and people complained and then millions upgraded before xmas. Who knows... Three in my family of 5 upgraded while the other two are waiting for the free upgrade in Sept - with or without a headphone jack. Most won't be using corded headphones much longer (IMO).

When Samsung releases their next phone in March, it will most likely not have a headphone jack (as reported) and then the complaints will be Apple fans saying "copy-cats" while Samsung fans will say "this is the right way to go forward".

Can't even imagine the look on the faces of those that have held off purchasing the 2016 edition of the iPhone ONLY to find out that the 2017 edition is identical ... except the camera will be repositioned in order to sell the newest iteration of the Silicone Case.

I went on a trip to the Caribbean. I enjoyed the better picture quality of my iPhone 7. I enjoyed the fact that the phone was in my pocket when I jumped in a pool or walked knee deep in the sea water, without a worry on my mind.

I really don't understand how people can be so dismissive to every effort and improvement apple makes. Borderline trolling behavior.
