These exact same production cut rumors come out like clockwork somewhere between November and January (while orders for Q1 are being placed). This is clockwork, this is constant year to year, yet it makes news every year based on clickbait ******** and lazy reporting.

You see one tech news site report, they all do in "me too" fashion. I'm sure someone makes a killing off the temporary stock drop every single year these damn "cuts" or "production issues" stories come out.

Nothing to see here folks, we'll see you all here in 10-12 months for the next great production cut "scandal".

Excellent memory, detective work, and reporting. Tip-o-my-hat to you, sir!

Still, there'll be a a dozen or two here getting the shakes and frothed up over nothing. Cracks me up...

I'm almost certainly connecting info i feel reinforces my experience but for every major story I already made decisions that somehow explain the stories.

For the iPhone 7 plus, my iphone 6 plus was just fine so i didn't upgrade although my contract had finished. I can see a lot of people doing the same. The investment in a new phone better be obvious to onlookers, the lack of new design i think has hit apple hard this time round. They could have done a minor revision that changed that though.

I hope we see a major design overhaul this year or apple is looking at another yoy drop in sales volumes. Getting rid of forehead/chin and side bezels should be high on the list along with fully wireless operation. They might as well do a contact port or USB C otherwise. The only port everyone actually wanted was the headphone jack anyway no one wants a proprietary lighting port!

I don't want to switch for many reasons but apple is making it very hard to love their products right now.

Or it could be that the Christmas season and launch take more production to keep up while January to March sales tend to drop.

I like how people are pointing out this is part of a seasonal trend. But I do agree that the iphon 7 just lacked features for upgrading too.

yup, and that's when Apple starts to lose loyal customers to their competition.

No that is not truth, they will loose the fashionable once's who only care about the casing / looks. Loyal customers, who also appreciate the inner works still see what Apple did.

Can't imagine what they consider Mac sales to be if the iPhone ones are "sluggish."

Well, perhaps this puts Apple back with it's feet at the ground and start appreciate the whole product line again as there are no "winner" anymore.

I'm not a significant stock holder so I don't really care what the sales numbers are, but I'm wondering if consumers have simply realized that the phones are good enough to last 2-3 years, and there's always a better model around the corner, so might as well stretch out the current device for another generation.

That certainly speaks to my situation. I have a two year old 6+ and even some extra cash, but no desire or need to get a new phone.

How would a two generation newer iPhone 7, or any other manufacturer's phone for that matter, say a Google Pixel or Samsung Galaxy, improve my life or situation?

The lack of headphone jack killed it for me. I would've loved to get the 7 plus with its improved battery life but I'll pass on the dongle/adapter life for now.

All those saying that Apple reduce production volume every January may be missing the point. Apple always have preplanned production rates for each quarter following launch. Using the 6S sales numbers and internal (realistic) projections Apple will ask for (example) 10 million phones for Q1 and 5 million for Q2 etc because (as has been stated) there is pent-up demand on launch compared to rest of year sales. What this article is implying is that Apple has cut the production by 10% on top of the decrease already planned for Q2 (i.e. in the example above, they have reduced down the Q2 order from 5 million to 4.5 million).

Yet another click bait for trolls on MR

iPhone 7 comes with tiny lightning adaptor so you can use whatever headphones you have and have you heard about wireless?

Well Apple, it may be a good idea to not use the same design for three years in a row.
7 is basically an iPhone 6S-S. In fact, I'd argue that iPhone 6 -> 6S was a larger jump. I like the design, but given the performance increase over the 6 (especially the extra GB of RAM) I'm perfectly happy with my 6S.

With that said, I suspect that Apple has an epic new redesign in store for the 10th anniversary next year.

It definitely has that new-features-spread-across-two-updates feeling. The 6S was essentially an unfinished prototype - reinforced chassis, touchIDv2, force touch, taptic and higher MP camera but missing a wider aperture camera, hidden antenna bands and solid state home button. The only real 'new' feature was the dual camera on the 7 plus (along with the updated A10 chip).

I'm actually thinking Apple will underwhelm again next year with a 7S and an overpriced iPhone anniverary edition

I wish they'd keep production up and reduce the price. Knock $200 off, straight up - none of this "with financing" rubbish or another line activation - and I'll jump. Otherwise MSRP is too much for me and I'll keep on with my iP6. The iP7 is a nice unit. It's just not so nice/compelling to justify the bump at that price, IMHO.

I don't know, waterproofing was pretty dang awesome, I thought. Stereo sound....it's all about how all the refinements come together.

Other than the 6s hit it out of the ballpark, I agree with you. Seriously the 6s was an awesome upgrade, how many years worth of upgrades into the future do you want in one release?

Fact: Apple will cut production of iPhone 7.
Analysis (pessimistic): iPhone 7 sales sluggish, assuming good sales means maintaining production rates throughout lifecycle of device
Analysis (optimistic): iPhone 7 sales great, assuming production cuts are expected throughout lifecycle of device and 10% cut is lower than anticipated

But which headline gets more clicks???

I think if they'll reduce production of all colours but jet black and matte black, they'll be fine. It took me until now to find a 7+ in jet black at T-Mobile. Demand is there, just not for all the colours.

The worst thing they could do is cut production of jet black iPhone 7+.

No headphone jack no buy

EAT IT APPLE APPOLOGISTS!

I doubt that has any measurable impact on sales.

The iPhone 7 doesn't offer anything interesting to me over the iPhone 6. I'll wait for the 8 before upgrading.

You have the choice between a single pixel, your own galaxy, and everything in-between and your happy with what you have? Someone give this person a seat in the Senate.

"Swipe" or not depends solely on the type of sensor which Apple did not develop (at some point they did buy a sensor company, but the sensor implementation was improved by then by multiple vendors). "Secure enclave" is just another example of Apple using fancy (magic) names for commonly known concepts (retina display, motion coprocessor, taptic engine etc.). They did have some advantage in better integrating the features into the OS and they properly used those. Android has catched up with this by now. That's the extent of Apple innovation in this area.

Cool bro, what's the everyday equivalent to the secure enclave on the Android side? Oh wait. There is none.
