Apple Wins One-Week Extension of Galaxy Tab Sales Ban in Australia

While the Apple fan inside me is having a party for this, as an IT manager and a consumer I got to say ouch for Samsung and Australian consumers! If Apple ends up dominating the market not just in sales (as it is now), but also being the only player, some retailers and local shops may start selling iPads way over their suggested prices -which in some countries already are.
From a legal perspective this case can indirectly/directly effect all the other legal wars in the EU and USA between Apple and other tablet makers, ending up that "cheaper entry-level" iPad that is rumoured even more distant and unlikely as Apple won't need it if it's the only tablet seller!
Still the fanboy inside me says: GO APPLE!

Apple invested resources into developing the iPad. They have every right to defend their intellectual property. How is that being a fanboy?
Never understood why people keep posting this. All it proves is that MR was once an Apple friendly website. Too bad it isn't anymore.
Apple's R&D budget is deceptively low. Their cooperation with their hardware suppliers masks their contribution to R&D. Sometimes, they invest directly in their suppliers R&D and expansion. Other times, they make specific requests, the cost of which is amortized across their BOM with that supplier.
While we cannot know how much this "hidden" R&D is, it is a very different model than Samsung as a parts manufacturer.
So, once again... the R&D argument is another attempt to compare Apple to oranges.
BS! Apple is just defending their rights. What a lot of people seem to say is, "Goliath doesn't have any rights because he's Goliath."
I hope that the law requires Apple to pay Samsung for every penny of losses plus cost of enforcing and then some for the injunction.
The losses would be for ever possible loss sale Apple has to pay Samsung for them. If say Samsung would of sold say 100k tablets Apple would need to pay them $40,000,000,000 in damages in just lost sales, and on top of that they would need to add any other cost for Samsung to run it.. That would be $400 per tablet.
Samsung deserves every penny of loss sales if the injunction is not held up and Apple should be the one to pay it.

People are not stupid, they can see, without any rules or lawyers or people telling them what to think what is fair and what is not.
We're all humans and can use out brains to distinguish one item from another.
We all know the Samsung product is VERY different in almost every single way from the Apple product apart from a few fundamentals.
1: It's a thin rectangle
2: It's a tablet computing device
3: It's got a sheet of touch sensitive glass on the front that looks black when it's turned off.
It's because rational people understand those 3 things should not be able to be copywrited.
Man! I am an Apple fan. I understand why i come to an Apple rumor site several times a day. I have NO idea how someone has so little of a life that they come to a site for a company they obviously hate. Sorry...not. I come to a site to further a joyful passion. It seems others come to hate and spew vitriol. I hate Samsung. I don't go to Samsung sites...don't even know where they are or if they exist. I don't go around to every that owns a Samsung that I know and say what fools they are for buying from such a dishonest company. I don't even do that for the thieves at Google. And I certainly don't misinterpret another's post and then respond with a non-sequitor like "Pot. Kettle"
The Australian case is nothing to do with the design, it's to do with patents related to the use of the touch-screen. However, as others have pointed out in other threads, I do believe Apple is undertaking this case as a result of the design similarities, but is using the patents claim so it seems dissimilar to the German injunction.
On one hand, I can understand where Apple is coming from, but on the other I also think they're just trying to create an environment wherein there won't be any decent competition. As for the similarities in design; yes, they look very alike, but there are some notable differences. It's not like the stores are going to put out a Galaxy Tab display with a giant "iPad" sign on it, it's not like they're going to be selling the GT in iPad boxes - in the end the customer isn't going to be that stupid that they won't know what they're buying. It's because Apple likes having the majority share in as many markets as they can.
And the Kindle Fire is not available to Australian customers either (due to Amazon's own decision, not because of an injunction) - what's your point and how is this related to the topic?

Because of your hate towards other companies you wrongly think that anything different from your thoughts is hate towards Apple.

Why do you hate Samsung, they supply lots of parts for your precious iphone. Dont hurt the hand which feeds you.
Apple has all the right to defend themselves when they think another company is infringing a patent or a trademark or a design.
Then justice will say if they are right or wrong

But the visual interface is also very close to what Apple designed in its devices with rows of icons for apps, a small tab with persistent apps, different pages of apps you switch with a flick of a finger, a devices whose interface adapts to what app has been loaded etc.
Those are all great ideas and seem like common sense but looking at Windows phone we see that there are ways to do things differently and try to innovate, but most player in the market didn't take the time to do that, they simply copied what worked and tried to capitalize on the momentum the industry had.
Android does try to innovate more now with widgets on the front page but they still rely on the basic principles put forth by the first iPhone.
Hmmm... Is it that I can barely tell the difference between Apple's iPad 2 and their offering...including SmartCovers? Even the box is similar. I am not sure there is a single significant Apple product that looks like their competitors.
Secondly, what company intentionally produces an ad that mocks me standing in line to get my iPhone and then expects me to want to buy their products?
In the development of the product categories of which I have professional knowledge, I don't see innovation from Samsung but plagiarism.
BTW, Samsung is biting the hand that feeds them by copying Apple products. Please forward your warning to them. "My" precious Siri will do just fine with more parts from Japan.

Of the fanboys and girls Apple fanboys are tended to be viewed as the worse. They are saw as up tight, snobby people who really have very poor understanding of technology.
Hell they even are though to have a very piss poor understanding of facts. They worship at Apple and give up the ability to think for themselves. The spread lies and FUD. Have no understanding of the market in general.
Their blind hated for anything not Apple makes them worthless for getting any real information on any products. Their opinion of even Apple products is worthless as they will cover up flaws and say it is a feature.

It's pretty obvious that the Galaxy Tab and iPad look the same. I don't buy the car analogy either, that yeah they do all have four wheels and a steering wheel. But you can tell there's a difference between a Rolls Royce and a Hummer.
You can barely tell the difference between a Tab and iPad, save for the aspect ratio. Samsung deserve everything they get. At least Asus with the Transformer have tried something different.
