A flawed test doesn't prove anything.

How is a scientific test flawed? FFS Oh because another point in the case is the weak spot. BS. That test would've bent the phone at the weakest point. Are you somebody that does destructive tests?

It is a billion miles away from being "scientific" lol

just stopping in to say,

My 5s, which cosmetically was perfect bc of a case was taken out of that case to be sold. This was when i first noticed the bend in my phone. It was bent from the volume buttons to the opposite top corner of the phone. I could clearly tell that it had bent at the "weak spot" created by the volume button cut outs. The metal back was pulled away from the screen just barely. I didn't even notice IRL- i noticed when i was posting the photos to craigslist.

I took it into Apple on sept. 8 and the genius looked at it. She said, "its good that its just bent and the screen isn't broken. That would be a 79$ replacement (w/ my ac+) but this is free. This was probably caused by sitting on it this angle" she traced the bend with her finger.

I said "I've always taken good care of it and keep it in my front pocket."

She said, "well, it was bent somehow," looked at me and walked away.

She came back with a new phone and replaced mine.

just thought I'd share.

You've managed to bend a 5S??? My 5S is also cosmetically perfect, kept in my shirt pocket at work or my front pocket out of work. It's completely flat.

...Just because you're incompetent and don't know how Apple actually works, that doesn't mean the rest of us should run around blind....

Not exactly sure what my competence has to do with this. The Apple support chat told him NO. So he is not running blind. He and you just don't like the answer. Try again. Maybe if you pester them long enough they'll make an exception just to get them off their case. I know I would.

I put my 5S in my back pocket all the time and (gasp!!) sat on it a lot too. There's no way it ever took anywhere near 90 pounds of force. I'm inclined to do the same thing with my 6 Plus. Have been in fact. It's as flat as the day it came out of the box back on the 19th.

Which says to me that it's a non issue (pretty much as I thought) :)

Really? How is it not scientific?

The phone was secured in a rig. A force was applied at the centre point of the phone.

force was added progressively until deformation was noticed. The force concerned was noted. Then force was progressively added until the deformation caused the screen to be exposed.

Rinse and repeat under the same conditions for other phones.

Apple is a for profit company.

If you're a ****ing idiot and bend your phone by sitting on it or forcefully bending it, then you deserve to lose the $800 you paid for it.

This is like forcefully scratching a gold ring or a gold watch and then asking the company to reimburse you for your lack of cerebral cortex.

LoL. Freaking hilarious.

lol
on the other thread, some guy claims Apple won't replace his bent phone. people come out of the woodwork claiming it entirely his fault, claiming he bent it by sitting on it
on this thread, some guy claims Apple won't replace his bent phone. people attack his character because he posted too many screenshots

Well I don't know how anyone couldn't agree with that highly refined and carefully structured rebuttal.
I spent ages agonising over it tbh.

In the end I realised any other effort in rational debate in this thread is pointless.

Ok. I'll offer this as a considered response:

What was the purpose of his "test" in the video?

Better question: what's your agenda?
Honestly don't have one. In fact I'm a bit taken aback that you and others think anyone would have an agenda.

I'm just like looking at all this hoo-har from a neutrals point and wondering wtf is going on lol.

Kinda doesn't seem that way. I think that's why people ask the question.

Have you managed to explain what was wrong with the test that you consider not scientific?

What exactly are you unhappy with in the testing they did?

LOL. So basically apple is not replacing their defective phones. Nice. Heck, even Samsung replaced the S4 active when it got water in it and that is obvious user error.

Hey billion dollar company.. Yes you apple. When it's being mocked on Conan you should probably eat it and replace them.

Samsung replaced the S4 Active when water got in it because they explicitly advertised AND told customers the device was designed to prevent that.

I was in the store when that happened. Everyone just turned around like "what the heck..."

What was she yelling about anyways? I've always wondered.

Consumer reports has been a joke for years. So not reliable.

and MacRumors is?

Either way he has picture proof, also I wouldn't be surprised if op might not be the guy who owns the phone in reality but instead just posted the imgur links here, and in reality it's someone's else's who has the bent phone. Doesn't make the situation any less valid but still.

I did a reverse image search, and the earliest upload I could find was his into imgur, so it is legit that the phone bent at least.

Well the voice of the people up there ^ hasn't answered my question yet so I was kinda waiting to develop his answer.

The test isn't scientific because it has no purpose or scope relevant to the problem. Its just some guy with a beard being silly with phones and a press.

I'd ask him why he was doing that and like surfer-dude above, he wouldn't have an answer any more sophisticated than "because I was told to do it"

This isn't an issue of brute force. Its about bending, elasticity, the science of materials and the response mechanisms of objects under stress and strain.

Engineering and design has progressed from hitting things with a rock and watching stuff break

Yet, that's exactly what they did with the retina MacBook... And that's also what they did with the first iPhone - Steve Jobs made Apple replace the plastic screen with a glass screen a few weeks before launch.
We're not talking about a small company here, we're talking about one of the richest company on the planet trying to avoid a recall that would cost billions. You don't think they're able to pull that kind of resources? That would also explain why the 6+ was in such short supplies at the beginning...

Moreover, what makes you think Apple had only one week to do that? They might have identified the problem weeks before. Yet, they still had stock without the improved body to sell. So it is perfectly possible that they decided to empty that stock before releasing the improved 6+...
Again, it's not like it didn't happen before, that's exactly what happened with the retina MacBook: Apple sold all its LG LCD with ghosting before switching to a 100% Samsung production. They just made the exchange for people who would notice the problem rather than recall all the MacBooks with faulty LG LCD...

A lot of what ifs. Even the richest company in the world can't make the glacial monolith of parts supply move at a magical rate. More likely, conspiracy minded people would rather blame some slight of hand deception instead of where the blame should be put - on stupid people who think they can put a fragile mini tablet in their tight pants and not damage it.

And by the way, I have one of those allegedly ghosting LG displays in my late 2013 Macbook Pro (the still do use LG) and I have yet to see a single line of ghosting.

Which is why I said to call them in my initial comment that you are trying to discredit, which my many experiences over years has confirmed.

Are we going in circles now just so you have someone to argue with?

What is it going to take to prove you just like to argue.... and are wrong? Do you want me to post screen shots of numerous phone generated repairs and replacements? Do you want to see the box, date, label, and phone I just received in the mail yesterday as a replacement?

Get over it. You are wrong and have too big of a head to admit it.

Everyone else......they'll do an over the phone replacement without seeing the phone. It's called an express replacement. They do it all the time.
