Stop with new features. Put the engineers/developers on reliability. That's simple.
[doublepost=1459286339][/doublepost]

At least they wouldn't be complaining that it doesn't work.
[doublepost=1459286417][/doublepost]

Exactly my point. More people than others think want reliability, not "NEW FEATURES!!!!"

And if reliability is crap, people won't uprade.
People should just stop fighting. They just need to be friendly to each other. That's simple. World peace.

This bug is really annoying. Basically none of the links work when searching google in safari, however other search engines like bing work fine? Maybe something to do with how they format the URL?

Beyond that some links from apps like gmail, and mail are crashing the app too.

Actually they've had a really excellent week.

The govt backed down on the privacy issue compelling companies like Apple to install "backdoors" for govt access.* New devices were announced last week. As well as software updates for OS X, iOS and tvOS.

Yes, bugs were discovered and they're being quickly fixed. I think some people here really believe even with the thousands of people doing public beta testing, as well as Apple's internal testing, every single bug will be discovered. Only a fool would believe that. Or, of the thousands of people testing, some reported the bug, but Apple for some reason chose to not do anything about it. Right...

What people don't realize is that device software has become incredibly more complex over the last seven years. And with a billion+ Apple devices in use there are a lot more people using them and the underlying software.

* People who use devices other than those made by Apple should wonder why the govt only took Apple to court. And why is it that the DA in NYC only has several hundred Apple phones he can't get into and is not taking other manufacturers to court. Seems gvmnts have no problems getting into non-Apple devices. Why is that? I think that says something very interesting!
I was with you until the bolded portion. The government took Apple to court because of the 5C is an Apple phone and they wanted access. You seem to be confusing being unable to access the phone because they screwed up with Apple's stance on privacy. Apple didn't want to create a backdoor (and they never should in my opinion). They would have given up the information (with valid warrant).

"The Apple ID passcode linked to the iPhone belonging to one of the San Bernardino terrorists was changed less than 24 hours after the government took possession of the device, senior Apple executives said Friday. If that hadn’t happened, Apple said, a backup of the information the government was seeking may have been accessible…

The executives said the company had been in regular discussions with the government since early January, and that it proposed four different ways to recover the information the government is interested in without building a back door. One of those methods would have involved connecting the phone to a known wifi network."

In other words, you can have the info but not through an OS backdoor.

You're thoughts on non-Apple devices are suspect. I don't think you have a clue about their level of security.

You will never be happy with Apple's development priorities. Time to do something about that. As you say, simple.

Stand up and vote with your wallet! Buy a phone from Sanyo or Samsung. For sure they're more inline with what you believe to be important, right?

With frequent updates and no problems, they've clearly made the right choices. Right?

Granted, problems with 3rd party apps will occur when Apple update iOS. However, they should not be able to break core features of iOS itself.

Installing Booking.com app or any others should not be able to break Safari. Whether it is a conflict that no one could possible think of or just plain stupidity, it shouldn't happen.

So, you think that is the first time in history that somebody was unable to use part of its software for a couple of days? Say a million people are unable to use Safari for a week. Would your reaction been any different if this bug had only affect 100'000 people? Because scaled to the whole software stack, such a reduction by a factor of ten of affected people is akin to 10x fewer bugs. Surely, if Apple could the number of bugs (or rather weighted bugs as in people-day-bugs) by such a factor that would count as a monumental achievement. But still it wouldn't have changed your personal experience and thus your personal opinion. Doesn't this show you your personal experience is not a reliable indicator for overall software quality?

4 days and counting....

Everyone's experience is personal. This happened to enough people in my opinion for Apple to slow its roll and rethink how it develops/tests/releases Software.... We don't need annual iOS Updates! We need more people devoted to iOS reliability than new features.

Again, I stand by what I said: Freeze the iOS feature set for a year. Only do bug/security fixes. Pride yourself on being a Five-Nines company. Move on from there.

And that still won't guarantee that issues like this won't come up.

Why is the solution that people routinely offer is to jump ship? I don't care what other companies do. I care what Apple does, and Apple can be better than this.

They can do better, as most can, but they still can't escape something like this coming up at times.

Just, download/update Booking.com they have fixed their app and turn off JavaScript until the fix comes.

even by turning off javascript i still cant press certain links, for example access the comments section on this website.

am I missing something?

Essentially the only real fix will be Apple addressing it. Aside from that there are just various different potential workarounds that sometimes work for some people and sometimes don't.

No, read it again. I never said what you're claiming. The govt asked Apple to write a special govt OS so the govt could brute force opening the phone. Apple argued that they are not compelled by law to create such an OS to effect that - and was taken to court as a result. Apple have assisted the govt with valid warrants previously with information that was on servers or in older phones where such information could be accessed without Apple creating a special govt OS. As they should with a valid warrant. Simple as that.

Apple stood up. One can only wonder if other phone and phone OS manufactures have stood up as well when asked to do something similar.

So did a third-party app issue an update after 9.3 came out that caused this issue, I wonder? If so, let them burn in **** for making Apple look bad. :p

Yes, the Booking.com app that caused the issue came out two days after 9.3

My iPhone 6S has begun just randomly shutting down, regardless of clicking URL's. I've given the battery a week now to calibrate with 1-100 charge cycles, but it's still happening.

i just dont understand why it is taking so long to fix, ive resorted to using the Puffin browser which will do for now but not exactly a solution.

even my third party email app Spark is now unusable when pressing links to websites, it just freezes.

id take it back to be replaced while still in warranty, doesnt sound like something a software update would fix

Who's gonna write the Open Letter to Apple about this?

We demand an explanation!

:p

I don't need an explanation.

My letter would say:

Tim,

My iPhone 6s has been unusable for 4+ days now. This is unacceptable for a company which prides itself on being insanely great, and I've been unable to use it for my mission critical work.

You need to freeze the iOS feature set for a year. Only do bug/security fixes. Pride yourself on being a Five-Nines company. Move on from there when it's time.

Sincerely,

XXXXX

Truly, if Steve Jobs were still CEO, whoever was responsible for this bug would have been out of the door, and all at Apple would have felt his wrath. He understood that people are inherently bad, and that sometimes you need to give them hell to make them perform. Tim Cook, on the other hand, lives in cloud cuckoo land, where everything is fantastic and amazing, his customers couldn't be happier, and there is no hell.

It's time Tim was shown hell, and gave his employees hell. He needs to be cruel to be kind.

They've been having a bad decade since Steve Jobs died in 2011.
Seriously, just look at how bad they've been doing as far as getting new customers, as far as customer satisfaction goes, as far as sales go, as far as how much money they have goes, as far as profits go...it's just been horrible.

Yup, there were no issues or bugs around when Steve Jobs was at Apple...none at all.

And who says iOS 9 wasn't largely such an update? Compare how many new features (including new APIs for developers) we got with iOS 7 & 8 and then compare that to the new features (and APIs) we got with iOS 9.
