The A14X can't compete with next-gen consoles. With current-gen ones, maybe, which may be good enough.

problem is Apple doesn’t have the architecture as the current or ngen consoles, and neither have the Nintendo muscle and IPs behind them. Basically, none of the strengths the major players have

Good. I would love to see Apple make a serious entry into the gaming market.

And they've already established the model of the future with Apple Arcade (everyone forgets that this is the same format that Xbox Game Pass uses, it's just that Apple's offerings are far less enticing).

In my opinion they would've been far better off with pouring money into first-party games than movies/TV, as Apple has way more potential to offer something unique in the gaming space than in the film space, due to their proprietary tech stack.

Hopefully Apple can establish a meaningful AAA library of games standardized across AS Macs, new ATVs, and iPads in the near future.

Audience for video is much bigger than the audience for video games.

They‘re working on it, though.

Not quite...

I could have sworn someone said an Apple TV was ready to go at any time back in March or earlier in the year? Did they scrap that and redo it? I don’t know about these Apple TV leaks. They’re all over the place.

They could buy a few game companies, or perhaps invest a measly 10 million into one quality game.

To update to HDMI 2.1/HDCP 2.3 compatibility. 8K playback to capable TV's and AVR's. Yes there are starting to be 8K consumer photography. Also like to see extra audio only HDMI port, as well as ability to add memory card.
Oh great, now we have HDCP 2.3? Will we all need new TV’s soon?

Looks like A14 will be very Powerful! It must be very efficient and effective chip.
Feels like it could be a minimized Apple Silicon, MacMini of sorts.
If the DevKit given to devs was already on A12Z running games like Tomb Raider then it will definitely be able to compete at some level in the console market.
The Nintendo switch is already an ARM based console.

Things will get interesting for sure.

Agreed.
But after watching Greyhound, Servant and a couple episodes of Tehran... I kinda wouldn’t want to sacrifice that anymore.

Could we just have it all? :p

Revision 2.3 arrived March 2018, It's appearing on some 2019 models of TV's, it is a more advanced form of HDCP to pair with HDMI 2.1. There could be some point in the future where all devices to pass 4K/8K require HDCP 2.3, if HDCP 2.2 is rendered inadequate. There are zero instances of it being used presently. Consider it a worst case scenario, that is just build into very recent products. :)

Roku which does the same thing

I got a Roku as an interim device waiting for the new ATV - it does not have Airplay (but they are planning it), it can’t work as a Homekit hub and it does not have the apps. Hardly the same thing unless you only use it for Netflix.

Not to mention, SEARCH in English is not available, because I live in the “wrong” country. So to find apps and channels I need to use Google on their own website.

Just cause I’m curious, is there anyone who’s used the Apple TV to play games? I’m curious if the experience is nice/ something that you enjoy? I tend to use it only for streaming tv, movies and music occasionally

I said A12 not A14 - there's no reason for them to make a slower one. They are definitely making the A14(X) one.
