I'm glad other people have been having this issue. This has been causing me some frustration for sure!

Given we're only now into November, this does seem rather problematic.

Oh Great. I live in south-central Alaska.

Well, see, that's your first problem right there... :D

iPhones do have a temp sensor. If the phone gets too hot it will automatically go into a panic setting and give you a warning on the screen.

OK the cpu has a thermal sensor.

So your theory is the CPU's thermal sensor is not tripping sooo much that iOS is disabling the touchscreen?

Wonder if it's PMIC since they dropped Dialog Semiductor for something cheaper. It kind of makes sense since it happens immediately going from indoors to outdoors where combination of lower battery power output from cold weather plus increased power consumption from higher screen auto brightness leads to power drop that causes touch controller input malfunction until it's reset by locking/unlocking screen. Software fix to PMIC would be to monitor temperature, battery power ouput and if both lower than nomimal then don't increase auto brightness too suddenly and too high.

Lets hope Apple is telling the truth and not trying to avoid a massive return gate before the return period is up for most of us next week lol.

Happy that Apple is acknowledging and addressing this. Hopefully the fix truly resolves the issue.

Had this issue the other night when walking my dog. I tried to activate my assessability shortcuts but accidentally clicked too many times and triggered SOS and I couldn’t cancel it. Got a call from the sheriff and my concerned wife.

Hope it can be fixed!

I look forward to the software fixes. Apple is at least quick to admit w bugs w the X (Siri, iBug)

Santa and Craig Federighi both say, "HO HO HO!" :D

Except with my iPhone battery, now being repaired by Apple because it expanded from heat and pushed the display out.
Without exploding, but little charge keeping capacity afterwards. Different phone, but the temp sensor failed to save the phone. :(

How about an acknowledgement that the speakerphone is horrendous and rattle like there’s no tomorrow above 70%. All iPhone 10 I’ve had in hand exhibit the same issue.

Always amazes me when diehard iPhone users have issues and don't bother bringing it up in order to protect Apple's reputation. It always seems to take regular phone users to start the complaints because they couldn't care less how negative it looks for Apple. When Apple finally acknowledge the particular issue, only then, do the loyal followers come out and admit they too have been having issues. The X has been nothing but a mess of issues. Smh.

Over the course of the last week, there have been a growing number of complaints from users who have discovered that the display of the iPhone X becomes unresponsive in the cold.

Users on both reddit and the MacRumors forums have noticed that their iPhones immediately refuse to recognize some touch input when exposed to cool outdoor temperatures. As it turns out, there is a software bug causing the issue, which Apple says will be addressed in an upcoming update. From a statement to The Loop:

Apple says its iOS devices operate best between temperatures of 0º and 35º C (32º to 95º F), but some of the people who are experiencing issues have seen display problems within these temperature parameters. Reddit user darus214, for example, had his iPhone X act up when it was 45 to 50ºF outside. Not all iPhone X users are experiencing problems with the display in cold weather, and those that are see the problem occur as soon as cold exposure happens rather than after a period of time, which does indeed suggest a software issue. Most affected users have said that the problem clears up after a few minutes. From the MacRumors forums:It's not clear when Apple will fix the cold weather bug, but a fix could come in iOS 11.2, which is currently in beta testing. Apple this morning released iOS 11.1.1, an update that addresses an autocorrect bug that caused "i" to correct to "A[?]" on some devices.

This ******** has been happening since the 5. I was out mountain biking in 45 degree weather. Phone in backpack. Took my phone out to take a picture and it shut off before I could take one. It never used to be a problem iPhone 4 and earlier.

Even after paying 1000$?? Would you tolerate that if you new TV did that or Playstation/Xbox did that?
You can't pay enough money for a mass-produced product that is guaranteed to be perfect. Just not possible. You can argue that any product may not be worth the asking price if its flaws are unacceptable to you, but you can't spend your way out of every single product issue.
