Yep the amount of times the remote gets last in this house. The record was 3 months. In the end I gave in and bought another and then a few days after the new one arrived it was found. The latest was a week. Found it again last night.

Prophet Prosser back at the start of May. Still nothing has turned up!

No regular remote is going to be as good as an playstation or xbox controller for gaming.

Out of the 4 remotes I have, I prefer the Apple TV one. I don't understand the criticism.
I read all the disadvantages people list, but I don't experience them.
I like it and I hope they don't change it too much.

What? Apple TV supports games? Don’t see anything compelling in games, way too much freemium nonsense...
Have you tried Apple Arcade?! LOL

That hasn't been a requirement for many years. It did nothing to spur game development.
Exactly. Apple support PS3 and Xbox game controllers and nothing has changed.

In hindsight, I wish I’d purchased one of these for my now broken Apple remote.. Although, should we really need to buy a bumper case for everything from Apple?
To be fair I have one on mine and it’s stopped my kids from breaking this one. However it doesn’t stop it from getting lost. But the case is black. If it’s I’d got a brighter coloured one it might have be easier to spot. However last night I found it behind the sofa.

I'm no huge fan of the "Siri Remote" myself. But I have been using Apple TV's and Apple TV's only on all my TV's for the past several years. I don't have any set-top box or anything. I do have a PlayStation 4 Pro, Xbox One X and Nintendo Switch but those aren't being used for anything other than gaming.

The remote hasn't been all that frustrating to me. I have never had any issues with knowing the orientation of the remote. But my TV lights up the room enough so I am never in a situation where it's pitch black so I can't take a look at the remote if I'm confused about its orientation. It's not like it's difficult to know how you are holding it either. You don't have the same array of buttons on the left side as on the right side so I pretty much feel the orientation instantly when picking it up. The outline on the Home button makes it even easier.

I can't see how this is such a huge problem for people?

I don't have have any issues with the touchpad either. It makes scrubbing so much easier and more natural and navigating tvOS uses acceleration in such a seamless way. I can use my LG TV's Magic Remote on the Apple TV but that feels so much slower navigating using buttons compared to the touchpad.

The one thing that annoys me is how Apple is next to useless when it comes to a global market. We have had a fully functional Siri on iOS for years in Norway. But even in 2020 I can't enable Siri on the Siri Remote as it's not supported in Norway for whatever reason.. Like how hard can this be? At least let me have Siri running in English? Siri is already English-only on my iPhone, iPad and HomePod's...

Why do people outside the US have to get reduced experience? I fully understand how it might be difficult to have things localised in Norwegian. But for heavens sake, let me at least activate and use it in English..

Does nobody use the Remote app to control their Apple Tv?

We use it all the time, beats trying to find the actual remote.

Still sat here hoping for an actual Apple television set! Imagine:

  • Built in sound bar that brings Siri/Apple Music into the living room without a HomePod
  • Integrated FaceTime with movement tracking to compete with Facebook Portal and offer credible privacy
  • Hand off so I can take a FaceTime on iPhone/IPad and transfer to TV
  • Facetime camera with LiDAR to allow for enhanced fitness classes to compete with Peleton (Apple Health +)
If they got Siri working really well then the remote would become less and less use. We have Sky TV here in the UK with a voice controlled remote and it has 90% accuracy and I use voice command mostly now.

Apple Remote easily the worst invention Apple has ever made. The entire problem is that it is never usable without looking at it. You need to look at it to know which way is up to use the touchpad. Meanwhile, every other remote in the world is usable without looking at it.

Holy crap did Apple completely fail at user experience design here..
They fixed that with the 4k variant having special outlines for the menu button. That way you can easily feel for the right orientation.

I’ve never lost it and I could tell which way up it is with my eyes closed, but it’s still one of the worst remotes I’ve ever used, IMHO. I hope they totally redesign it (and make it better, not worse!).

Giving us more buttons and the option to disable the trackpad part would be good.

wow... people use Find my in the house ? No one can be that careless can they ?

I do misplace mine, but its in the same room. I would think Find my-capabilities are more useful out of the house, than inside.

Let's hope the new ATV fixes the broken Match Frame Rate feature which does not output pure 24.000p or 60.000p framerate sources correctly. Outputs these as 23.976p and 59.94p with skipped frames every 41 seconds. Completely takes you out of the programme you're watching.
