Put a silicon sleeve on it. The remote will be easier to find and use.

This. Turns an utterly terrible remote into a passable one.

It’s ludicrous I had to buy a case for a remote in the first place, ha, but at least it’s usable as a result.

The current remote is *horrific* and the requirement for all apps to be compatible with it seriously limits potential for game development.

Agreed, they should introduce “controller only” games. Touchscreens can only do so much. Not sure the Remote compatibility is still a requirement, though - maybe for Apple Arcade?

There's a button on the remote labelled "Find my remote".

If you press the button, a little flag shoots up showing "I'm here".

I've been waiting a LONG time for a new model,
There are three separate buttons on the left, while on the right you have one small and one long button. You can feel if with your thumb - the long button is bottom right.

One shouldn’t have to feel around in order to know which way is up for this thing. I’ve had both models since launch but only yesterday I picked up the latest one and started swiping the wrong end.

Apple Remote easily the worst invention Apple has ever made. The entire problem is that it is never usable without looking at it. You need to look at it to know which way is up to use the touchpad. Meanwhile, every other remote in the world is usable without looking at it.

Holy crap did Apple completely fail at user experience design here..

Ever used the original iMac hockey puck mouse? :D That was the worst invention Apple has ever made. The entire problem was that it was never usable without looking at it. You needed to look at it to know which way is up to use the mouse. Meanwhile, every other mouse in the world was usable without looking at it.

Agree. Plus, the battery is swelling in mine. So. $60 for a new one. Eff that. I’ll just go Roku or nvidia shield.

A cover? For a TV remote???

Ludicrous, I agree, but Apple drove me to it. With that rubber condom, it solves the orientation issue, and you can pick it up without fear of triggering the touch pad.

I don’t use a case for a phone. I’m merely telling you this to illustrate that I’m not the type to put covers/cases on everything. I buy stuff to use it.

An ATV with 8K and HDMI 2.1 would be nice. Just for futureproofing. A new remote they could release as a separate product. Don't use it. Harmony Elite all the way...

No regular remote is going to be as good as an playstation or xbox controller for gaming.

Out of the 4 remotes I have, I prefer the Apple TV one. I don't understand the criticism.
I read all the disadvantages people list, but I don't experience them.
I like it and I hope they don't change it too much.

I agree... compared to some, like my Sony receivers remote - easily the WORST remote design of all time - the Apple TV remote is not bad.

One change that would make it perfect would be to add a mute button.

How relevant is "Apple TV" in this time of digital content?

It might be a king of old times. but this device will die soon, now that TV's are equipped with Android with numerous apps.

Of course this is announced today. . . just received a refurb 4K yesterday; our old 2nd gen was just too glitchy. And yes, I knew a new one was coming. Spouse got tired of me waiting. . . . . . .

You just said it yourself. These TVs run android, and are likely designed to spy on you at every step. So there is probably still a place for a streaming box with tight integration with the Apple ecosystem and running iOS and adhering to Apple’s policies on security and privacy.

True, when it's done properly, i.e. solid processor, stock android and reliable updates. Guess most people are comfortable with the features their TV provides anyway. Only selling point would then be Arcade. Services like Geforce Now would run on any TV, though. And of course privacy. I don't even have my TV on Wifi, just Apple TV. (Aren't there even some TVs that show you ads when you turn them on?😂)
