I've warned everyone on my Facebook page to cancel their orders, and return their phones before their return window closes.

Return your iPhone 4 and give up all it's advanced features because you're too old to learn how to adjust the grip on your cell phone slightly during calls?

Lame.

Why can't people just let go? Apple didn't you force you to buy the phone, if you don't like it return it! I personally love the design and wouldn't want to change a thing about the phone. A software update would be a bonus, but I don't really need a bumper and it is the best phone in the world regardless.

I've been a lawyer for a LONG time, but I remember the very first day of my very first class when the Prof said, "You can ALWAYS sue...but the real question is can you win?"
So good luck with that!:D

EXACTLY!

All these idiots who are keeping their phone are really the most gullible people in the world. Return it and wait for this inevitable fix. They are probably doing this as we speak. The next batch will be silently 'upgraded'.

Early adopters, thank you for sacrificing your money so I can get a better product. Heh.

In the end, can I get reliable calls with no dropped calls and zero voice degredation? Yes. Do I get good data speeds with the death grip? Yes. Do I lose bars using the death grip from time to time? Yes. But do I still make calls, not drop calls and the phone works fine any way I hold it? Yes. So to me, it's not broken unless i have the other issues other people have. I am not gullible, I just have a phone that works. It may not work for you, but it does for me. Don't be mad because I have mad money to spare and could buy you and your entire estate without even blinking.

I bet this is the last Apple phone to have a signal strength icon.

Sung in Chocolate Rain key:

My call failed......I move my hand away from antenna again.

They must also have no friends, family or customers that they need to talk to.

YES, the iPhone looks great, doubles as an iPod, surfs the net really well when on WiFi etc. Except it drops calls. It doesn't matter if the phone shows full bars or none or one, if it's dropping calls above the norm because of a known fault then that's unacceptable.

Ladies and Gentleman...... I present you the 4th Gen iPod Touch.....

im left handed, good thing us left handed people are supposedly smarter. we also supposedly die faster but i think in due time we can figure that out (when apple finally fixes my iphone LOL) :D:mad:

Have to say if this is true then I don't think I will be buying the phone. I'm sure this topic is crawling with anti-apple fanboys but I can see why. Apple's stance is really, really bad here. Its almost as if they knew the iPhone had issues at a point in time where it was too late to fix and decided to rely on the bumpers to "fix" the issue. Not saying that they created the bumpers just for this.

I honestly though the antenna issue was being overplayed with people jumping on the bandwagon and was really not that bad but my dad is returning his phone for the same issue, and I've seen it firsthand.

Really though, this will make a huge dent in Apple's reputation if they don't handle this accordingly. The issue is out there, given the choice of recalling a flagship product or simply ignoring it I don't think they truly appreciate the consequences of the choice they seem to have made.

88024xxxxxx = Week 24??? Again.....I live in an area with terrible AT&T signal for the most part. We do have 3G, but there are points where, on my commute home, I would lose signal and drop calls reliably........My iPhone 4 has yet to drop calls in these areas where my 3G would ALWAYS drop calls.

Correct, that is how you'd tell if its a 24 weeker. I refer you back to my earlier statement of - no one has shown two iphones on same network acting differently.

My point was, if "my phone" was defective, and say was "my other phone", which was built 2 weeks later, than there are at minimum 2 weeks worth of defective iphones.

Why am I even arguing my point here? if you don't believe there is a problem, then who cares... enjoy your phone... be sure to come back when you start noticing issues :)

Well, I have two on order that are due to arrive in 7 days but enough is enough, I'm cancelling the order tomorrow.

From Jobs' comments, these staff guidelines, and everything else, I have no faith that Apple has any intention to fix this issue whatsoever. Indeed, I don't think they'll even make any hardware changes until iPhone5 next summer.

If they do surprise me by fixing it at a later date then I'll consider ordering again. I was looking forward to the iPhone4 but I have to say that if I can't make calls or browse the web without worrying about the way I'm holding the thing then it's just not for me.

Yes thank you beta testers!

Waiting for the next batch of working phones (with a silent hardware fix) to arrive my country. ;)

Keep your broken phones then if you´re so gullible and keep imagining the software "fix" will fix the issue.

Its a non-issue. Just don't hold it like this and buy that...
That's easy to say, but Apple's own iPhone 4 videos are a testament to how that plays out in reality – all of the actors / hand models hold the phone "wrong". This isn't going to go away.

Furthermore it's borderline humiliating to be forced to train yourself to hold the phone a certain way. What are we, dogs? Sit. Stay. Roll over. Hold phone in the Apple approved way. Good boy.

Nit-picking? Lmfao, yep we're all nit-pickers around here. Not being able to use your phone as a phone is such a minor issue.

Saying that not "able to use your phone as a phone" is kind of nit-picking too, isn't it?

Because that statement isn't true.

You can still use the phone. No matter how much you want to argue the point, you can still make calls. Don't perpetuate a falsehood. You might have to avoid touching the black strip on the left side of the phone, and while that may be a slight annoyance, the phone... still... works... as... a... phone.

Also, this leaked doc doesn't come off as they don't "respect" their customers... it comes off as a document stating that Apple doesn't care, I think it acknowledges the fact that some phones have this issue and in turn, asks Apple reps not to tell them to turn in their "faulty" phones because there's probably a fix on the way.

I mean, that's reading between the lines here, but still, in no way does this document throw customers or "loyalists" under any bus.

You guys think there will be a hardware fix? From what I can tell the phone would need to be re-done inside out to fix the signal issue. Am I right?

Starting to Suck

:apple: I am waiting for the iPhone 4 I pre-ordered, but the more I read about the problems and how Apple is totally blowing off anyone, makes me want to reconsider. The last two years I've had loads of issues with dropped calls (AT&T, supposedly), now I'll be stuck with a phone that can't place phone calls for this crappy reason?

This sucks big time :apple:

Q: When will 'FAIL' stop?

A: When they stop making FAIL.

Until...

I'll try to learn how to hold a bloody phone!

Apple: "If you're left handed, burn in hell." I will be filing a discrimination suit

Wow, quite the drama queen aren't you?

Buy a case or return your iphone. No one if forcing you to buy an iphone 4.

Agreed. If the phone is not living up to your expectations, return it.

You wrote "if you are left handed, burn in hell" in quotes, making me think that that was something a rep actually said to you, but nowhere in that article is there any such statement

Misleading title... please change.

Agreed it is misleading, but I wouldn't expect the OP to change it.

Correct, but they are forcing you to buy a case if you own the iPhone 4.

If you don't like how the iPhone works without a case, you can return it. Apple can't force you to buy a case.

Do a lot of people use their iPhones without some kind of case or skin anyway?

Put it another way. There are two kinds of people using iPhones:

1. Picky, OCD types, that get anxious when their phone looses bars, much less drops a call. This kind of person would never use an iPhone without a case and therefore will not experience the problem

2. Loosey-goosey, go-with-the-flow types. This kind of person may not use a case because they don't car about scratches. They're also the kind of person to not care about the occasional dropped call or having to hold their phone the Apple way as opposed to their own we.

So maybe this really isn't that big a deal, even though it seems like a pretty serious flaw. Personally I feel like a go-with-the-flow type of person, but even I put a skin on my phone because scratches on the screen make it hard to read whatever happens to be underneath a scratch.

Signal shmignal. I see the number of bars decrease if I use the "death grip" but that's not how I hold the phone when I call anyway. And I do hold the phone with my left hand.

For me, the bottom line is call quality, not bar count. Sitting in exactly the same spot, I get far better sound quality and connection reliability with the iPhone 4 than I ever did with my ancient 2008 iPhone 3G. It's like a land line.

I can't browse the web as I used to in landscape mode...sitting in left hand, using right hand.

As soon as any skin comes into contact with the metal band? The page freezes and won't load. It'll go down to 1 bar, then I have to basically restart phone for it to find a connection.

Incredibly frustrating...returning it tomorrow and going back to my 3G.
