This iMac would've looked REALLY good if the chin were the same color as the backside and the bezels were black. The lighter tone should've been left only for the stand and the peripherals. The contrast between the bezels and the chin colors is really jarring, and something that I cannot get over. And, the missing Apple logo on the front, makes it seem like an unbranded/generic machine. Such a shame.
That’s you. White bezels are terrible for content consumption. They clearly suit middle aged balding men because I rather like them.
Probably the OP has already realized this by now, but the ethernet port is on the power brick. Smart idea, actually. This is aimed at kids, students & the average home user.
It will sell very well.
CTO options haven't been announced yet (not active on page) so I'm sure people will be able to spec up to at least 16GB RAM and to 1-2TB storage when pre-orders are open.
There are usb-c displaylink hubs that will work, just like the do with the M1 Air.Only one external display too. And no USB-A for a DisplayLink dongle. It seems that the Mac Mini is the best option.
That's unlikely. I'd be willing to bet that old screen is heavier than the just intro'd screen. Besides, a proper counter balance for the screen is a fair trivial endeavor. I wouldn't want the old design either, but toppling over wouldn't be an issue.Screen would have made it top heavy and liable to (expensively) fall over.
if you move all of the hardware to the base... the logic board, the speakers, etc. it would not have been top-heavy. The G4 wasn't either. It would have worked just fine. Also... how is not *currently* top heavy with everything already in the display itself?Screen would have made it top heavy and liable to (expensively) fall over.
I think they forgot to offer "khaki"...Worst colors ever. Looks like the Tim Cook collection
Having a power brick sucks.Probably the OP has already realized this by now, but the ethernet port is on the power brick. Smart idea, actually.
There's a worldwide chip shortage right now, so that may have been a factor, and 16GB is wayyyyyyy overkill for macOS, unless you're runnign high-end professional productivity apps. These iMacs are geared for consumers. 16GB of memory would be seriously wasted on most users. macOS still runs steller on only 4GB of RAM.
I'm curious to see whether the power adapter from the higher-end models with ethernet will enable that basic feature on the lower-end models. Extremely stupid that the lower-end models don't have ethernet capability.
The web site indicates there is a 16GB option.Still kinda bizarre that there's no 16GB option when some of the other M1 offerings have it.
My space grey Mac mini has been upgraded to 32GB.There's a worldwide chip shortage right now, so that may have been a factor, and 16GB is wayyyyyyy overkill for macOS, unless you're runnign high-end professional productivity apps. These iMacs are geared for consumers. 16GB of memory would be seriously wasted on most users. macOS still runs steller on only 4GB of RAM.
Depends on the content. Perfect for the written word. That’s you. White bezels are terrible for content consumption.
Probably Apple will ditch dark colours on 32 inch modal and go for one solution multicolour Rainbow limited edition only just to annoy us more with a massive lumpy chin to match. It’s obvious that they will sell darker colors with a black frame for the 32” M1X/M2 iMac (pro) in the fall.
No it’s not. White bezels have no advantage on that front.Depends on the content. Perfect for the written word.
Well they do for me. Unfortunately I need a bigger screen so will wait until the bigger version is released. No it’s not. White bezels have no advantage on that front.
