I think it would have been more aesthetically pleasing if they didn’t do the two-tone colors. Just go with the same bold color all the way around. The most egregious example to me is the red, where it would be mistaken for pink from the front. That bold red would look great on the stand and chin. That and drop the white bezel and just do aluminum. White bezels always make the camera stand out too much.
That and throw a small black Apple logo on that chin if you are going to have one. Those changes would have made this look a lot nicer.

I mean we forget the targetted audience here, students and kids. this will sell like no tomorrow.
Students should buy an air with the exact same specs for less. Honestly everyone should buy that who doesn't need 4k in an 'entry level' computer. (Yes, I am looking at ya'll who justified the Air not supporting multiple external displays and the 16gb limit as being 'entry level'.)

Unlike many here I really like the design. And that's all the good things I can say about the new iMac. 😕
Most importantly: Why is it the regular M1-chip? And since it is the regular M1, why didn't they launch the iMac alongside with the Mini, MacBook Air and MacBook Pro?
Also, why is the M1 in the iPad Pro now? Didn't Apple say, they designed it specifically for the Mac? Is the iPad Pro a Mac now? Very confusing.
On the bright side: Since I'm unemployed at the moment, I probably would've be very annoyed if Apple would have introduced an iMac with a M1X-/M2-/Mwhatever-chip, up to 32GB (or even more) memory and whatnot and I couldn't affort it. 🤷‍♂️

Don't forget no USB Ports or ethernet on the base model.. making it pointless for anyone who does file transfers from a NAS or even a usb stick. wow apple.. you really made USB ports a commodity
There are Two Thunderbolt / USB 4 ports on the base model. USB-C not USB A.

Having a custom decal or silver sticker for Apple logo in the front, would help make them more sleek. Just a thought and easy solution for those pondering about the front appearance.

Students obviously buy laptops and kids don't use desktop computers in this day and age. The truth is I have no clue who the target audience for these machines are. The niche of iMacs used to be stores and offices that want to make sure that everybody knows that they use shiny macs and old people.

I don't get there reasoning. The MacMini and the MacBook Air have the option to install 16GB of ram, why not iMac? The iPad gets 2T of space and the iMac gets a tiny 256 or 500GB. Come on Apple. I can live with the smaller amount of space, but I can't with the ram. They will put the drive and the ram in the larger version when it comes out and charge double what they are charging for this thing.
Did you even read the page? You can upgrade to 16GB RAM and up to a 2TB SSD.

This is just hideous. My late 2015 27 inch 5K iMac just got a lease for a few more years. The issue with Apple is when they take a direction, they move the other products there too, so I don't have much hope for the later bigger iMacs. Unless they decide to price majority out and release an acceptable iMac that can be taken seriously, but with a stratospheric cost. Genuinely disappointed in this garbage release.

Also, is Jony Ive even looking at these? Im having a hard time believing he had anything to do with this hideous product.

For an all-in-one, this doesn't look half bad. The M1 entry is still new, I'd consider something like this for my children. However the performance of our 2018 Mini w/ an RX 570 eGPU still runs circles around the M1 GPU in Metal benchmarks.

By the time my Apple products go obsolete, I'm pretty sure these points will be of no concern.

So it looks like there'll be a "Pro" version later (this year?) with more powerful chip and in a way the color scheme would match iPad line-up. Different colors for the regular version, Space Gray etc. reserved for the expensive one

did with ive’s departure also leave aesthetics? this looks like a display from acer.

it fits the current generation’s style, but the white border—applied for whatever reason—pronounces the bottom bezel even more.

if you move all of the hardware to the base... the logic board, the speakers, etc. it would not have been top-heavy. The G4 wasn't either. It would have worked just fine. Also... how is not *currently* top heavy with everything already in the display itself?
Because an articulating arm makes it easy to throw the weight of the big panel around, remember there's some users who would have complained about it making t easy for them to break their delicate Mac screen which is encased in a lot of aluminium - not plastic.

Apple instead offer a VESA mount version of the iMac and you can mount it on the stronger articulating arm of your choice.
