and while I'm whining about a single USB, who puts a half-wide escape key right next to a double-wide sleep button. That will end well.

Dang otherwise this laptop is beautiful IMHO

I'm waiting for the model with no ports, no lid, no screen, no keyboard and no internals.

Because 11 is just too small, and 13 is absolutely enormous.

Question: if you had to choose between two computers that had the exact same footprint size/chassis.... one had a 11in screen with larger bezels.... the other had 12in screen with smaller bezels...
are you saying you would choose the 11in?

No magsafe bothers me more than no USB A connectors. It's one of the features I really love about my Macs.

B

Agreed. That's my only gripe so far. And I really hope that the loss of magsafe doesn't find it's way to the Macbook Pro.

It's safe to assume if this happens it will replace the existing models. If you really want 13" you'll go to a MacBook Pro Retina. If you liked the 11" Air, you'll appreciate the extra real estate in a machine of identical size.

Apple, please give us a Macbook Air 14". I hate the idea of downgrading screen size from my current 13".

LOL, anyone remember this?

Still have one, fire it up from time to time.....

I bought it because at the time (being a photographer) it was actually cheaper to buy the laptop and a couple of CF cards, than it was to buy enough CF cards to allow me to do a digital job out of the studio. A 512mb CF cost £100 at the time!

I still think the rumored iPad Pro and the 12" MacBook Air will end up being the same thing. Like a larger iPad with proprietary keyboard, which will house limited ports. I would be surprised if all they have up their sleeve is a giant iPad and a thinner MBA, with stripped down connectivity and a new charging system.

Judging from the comments here, I'm gonna guess people don't realize this is not actually a real Apple product. It's an artist rendition of some sketchy rumors about a product we're not even sure will run OS X or iOS.

But heck, why not just make up some stuff and put it up for people who don't read to comment about it.

I'm not convinced that part is correct. I'd think the wide key would be escape and the power key would be at far right.

Apple wouldn't make the speaker arrangement so ugly.

They also wouldn't be dumb enough to put the power button in the same spot the escape key has been for decades, leading to inadvertent sleeps and shut downs!

At CES 2015 Dell released these super nice laptops with a thin bezel display.. I attached an image, I wonder If the new Macbook might be like this?

Ask anyone who has one, and they will absolutely think that of the other. I have an 11", and the 13 looks like a dinosaur when people pull it out next to me. They think my 11" is worthless because it is too small.

Where do I plug in my thunderbolt drive?

Or usb drives for that matter... you will need an adapter to interface with pre-USBC devices.

type C and usb 3.1 can carry a lot of power and a lot of bandwidth so it looks quite useful... functionally it can replace thunderbolt (though only half the speed still). Perhaps an adapter would be possible.

Set to be available next year, Type-C USB will support USB 3.1 with the top speed of 10Gbps and has much high power output of up to 20V(100W) and 5A. Considering most 15-inch notebook computers require just around 60W of power, this means in the future laptop computers can be charged the way tablets and smartphones are now, via their little USB port.

Type-C USB also allows for bi-directional power, so apart from charging the peripheral device, when applicable, a peripheral device could also charge a host device. All this means you can do away with an array of proprietary power adapters and USB cables, and move to a single robust and tiny solution that works for all devices. Type-C USB will significantly cut down the a amount of wires currently needed to make devices work.

Obviously Apple has to distance the MBA from the 13" rMBP somehow, with retina no longer being unique to the rMBP.

I doubt anyone will complain about the loss of the 11" because this new 12" should have smaller bezels to make it have the same footprint. It's also easier to have just one model to pick from rather than two.

One advantage of using smaller USB ports is so you could get more of them in a smaller amount of space. So I don't see why they'd use a smaller USB port and then only have one of them.

Even if you had to use dongles to simulate different ports... a single port is a real bummer. Especially if that single port is also for power.

Raise your hand if you've ever plugged your Macbook Air in for power.

Now raise your hand if you've ever plugged your Macbook Air in for power and you also had USB devices plugged in at the same time.

I realize this is just an artist's rendition... but the artist must be an idiot.
