Because 11 is just too small, and 13 is absolutely enormous.

Oddly enough it was a dilemma I faced. Not b.c of the screen size, but the resolution. The 13" has the better resolution, but is a little too big for me. I love the footprint of the 11" just hate the resolution.

So what we have here is an artists best effort to reproduce what they hope the unit may look like, based on unsubstantiated or non-existent facts. I think it will look like a canary.

I sure hope that Apple will still bring magnetic charging to the laptop so that the cable would safely disconnect when pulled without damaging the computer or itself.;)

If they'd just remove all the ports and glue it shut, they could make it really thin.

This again. Isn't there enough legit news coming out of CES to not have to stoop to random coverage of renderings and "concepts"?

Usually I'd agree, but Mark Gurman and 9to5Mac have a very, very good track record. I wouldn't be surprised if this was exactly what Apple showed us later this year, separated speakers and all.

9to5 were the ones who leaked 'artist's renditions' of iOS 7's new icons. Everyone scoffed at them, saying how horrid the gradients and simplified look looked like. Lo and behold...

If Dell can do near edge-to-edge displays, no reason why Apple can't.

For some reason, I feel all those lightweight laptops are very fragile (no matter the brand). And, I hate ALL the flat keyboards on all laptops (especially those ones)... Yuck. Typing on that compared to a full sized "real" keyboard is very very bad. I type twice as fast on a normal keyboard (and I'm a very fast typer too).

As someone that frequently travels, this looks like the best of all worlds.

I suspect that they have some type of solution that allows a USB device to be plugged into the power plug in a pass-through, in-line fashion.

Like it or not, they are going to cite the lack of negative feedback on the absence of a USB port on iPads as justification for removing them on the Air.

Do you mean like a MagSafe around the USB port? Because that would be awesome.

Would be surprised if the speaker is divided into four ports like the rendition, and was under the impression that the entire surface between the keyboard and the edge of the comp would be a big touchpad--hoping to see that.

This.

Gurman is highly accurate.

All the people whining on here about how Apple is removing too much or going too far... that's what Apple has always done. They anticipate consumer behaviours and design accordingly.

It was the same with the super drive. People to this day express shock to me over the fact that all the current Mac models have no CD/DVD drive. Then I ask them when was the last time... well you know there this is going.

If the lack of ports holds true for the new Air, then Apple has clearly detected a pattern wherein consumers don't use these ports, whereas more likely pros still do.

So if you want peripherals and power with your Mac, get a MacBook Pro. If you want something simple and slim, get a MacBook Air.

It makes trying to decide which MacBook to get so much simpler. As does removing the size differences in the Air. Now you no longer have to decide between screen size and ultra-portability. Now you get both.

Seems like a pretty Apple way of evolving things to me.

No magsafe bothers me more than no USB A connectors. It's one of the features I really love about my Macs.

If you only look at this rumor, like you, I'd be saying NO WAY..

However,

At CES Intel has been pushing the FACT that Broadwell chipset will be reducing the number of wires going to your computer! Wireless charging, Wireless 4K display, wireless device connectivity. :D:D:D:D:D

Take that information, combined with this, and you begin to see that Apple is going ALL-IN with wireless technology in it's next-generation laptops. Starting with the Regina MBA..:eek::eek::eek::eek:

Think about it.. Your Power adaptor has no cord.. just walk into a coffee shop, plug in the AC adaptor and.. just sit near it. LOL

The USB C port is just a backup in-case you need to use something that doesn't support the new wireless technology.:cool::cool::cool::cool::cool:

EDIT: only one concern.. how quick will the nuts start screaming 'cancer' because of over-exposure to the wireless charing technology. Get your tin-foil hats on people!

Come on Apple you need to come up with something better, laptops are getting obsolete

Jony Pencil Dick Ive at work again. These products don't need to be any thinner. It's got to the point where the design has completely overtaken the function -- phones bend way too easy, iPads flex simply from holding them, less battery life in iPads, less screen brightness in iPads, etc. There will be issues with thin laptops too -- the biggest and most obvious of which will be less battery life, and durability (that screen will be awful thin and I'd hate for even the smallest amount of pressure to be applied to it).

I hope at least with the iDevices that if they continue this trend they at least use a higher grade aluminum or another stronger material. The aluminum they use is too cheap and weak.

without magssafe how we charge this laptop?

USB 3.1 can provide 100W for charging, which is more power than Macbook chargers use.

The effing point of the MagSafe connector is to ensure a loose link, on top of being reversible and blindly pluggable with the magnets. Some people have to stop thinking because the new USB connector specs would allow to charge a laptop it would be a good idea as a replacement; it would be a regression.

USB 3.1 is reversible. It would be a shame to lose the magnetic link, but it is a bit pointless as soon as something else is plugged in at the same time.

Hopefully a charger could have a passthrough to keep the port available for a data connection, but it still would need more than 1 port. Preferably 4 as they can also be used for the DisplayPort standard. It isn't like they take up a lot of room.

Thank you Apple for moving new standards forward. If it wasn't for you every laptop would still come with VGA.

The "artist" should pay a little more attention to the details.
- He got the arrow keys wrong.
- Why is the power button located at the left side and so enormously big when compared to the other keys? I'll accidentily hit the power button while trying to hit the escape key... What a nightmare!
- These grilles do not make sense in a fanless machine. :p
- Only one available free port extremely limits the capabilities. :(
- He forgot to draw/render the screen with the new thinner bezel...
