While I'm with you to a point, the answer isn't taking away features people do like to replace them with something that isn't clearly better....
I'm guessing you're referring to getting rid of the 1/8th-inch headphone plug? If they don't offer a built-in solution—that's NOT an extra $30 adapter—then I'm with you, for sure; it would be phenomenally stupid. People genuinely value the freedom to choose their headphones, from what I've seen (just look around and see how many different brands there are out there). Apple should ensure that this remains as easy for the new model as it is currently. As a musician, I'm **very** picky about headphones. Being forced into some garbage, just because it supports the standard they're adopting wouldn't be okay for me... (and having a better DAC powering crappy drivers isn't going to be an overall improvement!)

Did you even watch the keynote? All you got from it was emoji?

Oh yeah, I forgot, they're taking a second run at Apple News because here's what Eddy Cue said about that App back in Nov 2015

"We've only created the apps that we think everyone uses every day... We really wanted to create a single app that all customers could go to, to read all their news — no matter what they are interested in, no matter what topics, no matter what publications they want to follow — and get that experience that they're used to with our products, where it looks beautiful, it's really easy to read and yet it provides all the content available around the world."

Cue goes on to say that Apple believes the app is a "really, really important application for the world"

Well there you go - and I don't know a single person who ever used that "all-important world-beater" App.

So a 6SS in other words (6T?)

I have a 6S and no real need to upgrade. If it does get a tru-tone display, I'll be a little jealous but not much.

SS was a major paramilitary organization under Adolf Hitler and the National Socialist German Workers' Party (NSDAP) in Nazi Germany.

That concern of yours has never stopped the Chevrolet division of GM from applying that designation to several models of cars ... but thanks for the well-known history lesson.

It doesn't make sense that Apple would go against everything they've ever done with regards to the release of the iPhone and release a minor update this year and then a larger update next year.

This is the year of the '7', so it should be a large update. Next year should be the 7's' which will be the minor update.

Apple is said to be deviating from its standard tick-tock upgrade cycle in order to introduce major new features in the 2017 iPhone, which take time to develop.
Reading things like this I'm really starting to wonder what is going on at Apple. This is one of the richest companies on the planet with almost unlimited resources. You'd think they'd be able to walk and chew gum at the same time. But apparently they don't even have the energy anymore to give their flagship product proper updates every two years. And given the glacial pace at which Macs, iPads and Apple TVs are being refreshed, it's hard to imagine that other products are distracting them. So what are they doing with all those resources? Is it the "Apple car" that takes all their attention, or some other super-secret project? Or have they lost their creativity and productivity?

They also have opened up parts of iOS to third parties while also setting a foundation for a much smarter Siri.

Glad to see they have their priorities right at Apple: appear all over interview/talk shows, but don't update hardware.

Innovate his ass, indeed.

The only reason I'll be going to the 7 is because of the $400 hardware rebate from my service provider.

Possibly the same - most plans here still give you a rebate off the initial cost of the phone, still don't have a good 'bring your own device' plan, so after you do the numbers, you're leaving money on the table if you don't renew, get a new device and sell either the older one or the new one.

Failing that I wouldn't bother to upgrade, phone's fast enough, slight camera tweaks and 3D touch really didn't do much for me.

Since I'm in a yearly upgrade cycle, this might be a good one to give an Android phone a try.

If this is the best Apple has to offer for the iPhone, I'll go back to android for a year I think. I took a 2 year break from the iPhone and returned for the 6S, but if these rumors hold true there is nothing even remotely interesting about the iPhone 7.

Note 7 Edge with a Gear S2 being the prime candidates considered.

I can't believe Apple would go two years in a row with minor updates. At least they will have some camera improvements this year!

Last year was the first time I skipped an iPhone update. My 6 plus is a great telephone! I could go another year with it if there is no compelling improvement in this year's version.

Hey Apple! First rule of business-don't keep people waiting to give you money!

Apple should just market the new headphone adapter as the iPhone 7 and the phone looking thing that comes in the box as a "phone adapter". Bam. World's smallest smartphone.

Not too far off from how the Mac Pro is now a tiny hub you can surround with a mess of boxes and wires for devices you used to be able to install into one tower.

This doesn't enthuse me. I don't like losing the headphone jack and a slightly nicer screen and camera is not my prime need.

My 6 is holding up beautifully. If the 6S Plus gets discounted I might jump on one of them for the year and then see what the next phone holds up. If this goes the way I suspect, the 10th Anniversary iPhone would have the headphone jack back in.

This is going to be Apple's least profitable phone. Lucky number 7 it ain't. The are holding out on the 8's for the Chinese markets. They will all by three!

So then this will be the iPhone 6 SS. iPhone 7 will be next year.

How is Apple going to spin off removing the headphone jack as positive? They can't. Even sheep and fanboys know that this is stupid.

What the heck do you use your phone for? Are you writing your computer science doctoral thesis while simulating complex circuits? I think the A7 is still more than enough, and overkill for a lot of apps. For instagram, snapchat, maps, music, and the occasional time-kill game, processor enhancements don't really offer much.

If you are maxing out the capabilities of the processor on your smartphone, you are using the wrong device for the task. I think something with an Intel Xeon or at least an i7 might fit the task better.

Why buy such a powerful phone if you are not going to max out its capabilities?

Do you buy 16 Core Xeon processors to use 10% of it? There are some AMAZING games on the App store that easily take full advantage of the GPU & CPU.

I have an app that is able to doo real time fft analysis while already using 30% of the CPU. The cpu difference is easily noticeable just from App Loading.

No, YOU are the one with the wrong device if you are not using it to its fullest capabilities.

EDIT: Even on a very basic level you can see a difference in loading times of apps:

Now imagine doing more with your phone and the difference the CPU makes.
Also 3D touch was a big + and from iOS10 we can see them starting to take more advantage of it.

Yes, really. And no, it wasn't HUGE at all. In fact it was quite lackluster. Slow sales are even further evidence that most people don't agree with you, that is of course, if simply looking at and using the phone wasn't enough to tell you just how minimal the improvement really was.

LOL Slow sales?

iPhone sale GROWTH has slowed and had a slight decline, yes but not slow overall sales. And there are so many other factors that attribute the slow growth in sales that 'lack' of innovation has hardly much to do with it.

Either way I could care less, I will continue to upgrade my phone as long as Apple continues to innovate on their CPU & GP
I believe you are the target audience for Apple.

Yes, I am because I appreciate every second of my time and take full advantage of the CPU & GPU capabilities of these phones.

*whoosh*

Read the posts directly before it. It's a joke ;)

1) you're not funny... not even a teeny bit
2) you didn't give any indication (smiley/sarcasm tag/etc.)
3) so don't pretend like your "clever little joke" went over someone's head, when what ACTUALLY happened is you said something tactless, lame, boring, trite, old, annoying, repetitive, played out, nonsensical, and stupid (whether it is said "in jest" or not)
4) consider a moratorium on the "if Steve we're alive" comments. They were funny exactly ZERO times. Literally no one wants to hear it anymore. Nobody here knew him, so we can't say it & mean it... & saying it and not meaning it, is simply disrespectful remembrance of a man. Let the dead lie, ffs.

I buy my phone based on battery life, screen size, camera quality, and operating system. The processor is pretty low on the list of considerations, usually just whatever it happens to be. The processor isn't going to make emails to my boss or clients any better, not going to make my music sound better, not going to make my pictures better, and not going to make things like tracking my skiing or plotting a hiking trip more fun.

Further, most games on iOS are designed for the least common denominator - if the developer wants to make money, it must run on the most iphones. To the extent a game is made to run on iOS10, it will run just fine on iphone 5 or 5S (might take a second longer to load).

If anything, that video proves to me how little difference there is between the A8 and A9. Plus, it mostly showed fresh launches. If the app is loaded and suspended, it resumes much faster. The one time that video showed an app being loaded a second time, there was no difference in load times.

I guess to each his own then.
I use my phone for things other than day to day activities, so the processor upgrades make a significant difference. Apple's software is slowly catching up to its hardware and we will start to see a bigger difference that makes. Things like on device AI will benefit hugely from a better GPU and this will not only impact performance but also overall battery life.

There are some games that have better graphics on a 6s as opposed to the 5 and the difference is fairly significant. I think the Need for speed one is a great example. As we move forward we will see more developers do this, as apple seems to be focused on making it easy to do.
