Adapter.
[doublepost=1466585962][/doublepost]

Well, I am no "fanboy" nor am I a "sheep", but I will not miss the jack. I´ll buy an adapter and when it comes to buying a new headset it will be one with Lightning. There was the day we left floppy disks behind, now it is the jack.

But you could do that today if you wanted, but you have not done so. That should tell you something about whether there's an actual advantage to replacing the jack with a power consuming adapter, or if it's change for the sake of it.

There is no comparison to eliminating floppy disks which were already in steep decline because of better alternatives. The headphone jack is currently used by nearly 100% of all buyers who use wired headphones or earbuds.

I like the design of the 6/s. I thinks it has rather large chins, they should handle this with the 2017 update.
For now:

A better camera
No more antenna lines
Waterproof
Better camera
Faster soc
And please: a better display: slightly higher res with true tone and laminated display(1704x906 for the regular "7" and 2208x1242 for the plus)
Thinner?
Smart connector?
More speakers?
Enhanced Taptic Engine?

Cons: no more headphone jack.

They could call it both the 6s pro or 6se to extend the 6 name for another year.

And next year come with the ultimate iPhone in a new design, with oled, 10 nm soc, new casing material, build in homebutton, FaceTime camera, speaker in screen, etc.

If Tim Cook was CEO during the early years of the iPhone, I bet you wouldn't have seen the iPhone 4. The iPhone 4 would have been a rehash of the 3GS with the same screen resolution instead.

Gosh I really wish Apple releases an iPhone 4 type of upgrade that would wow everyone. Anyway Samsung S7 looks pretty tempting.

Yeah, just like iOS 10 was going to be the "Alice to the Moon" operating system update and what did we get - an emojification of iMessage - that's bringing it, huh?

Who said iOS 10 was going to be the "Alice of the Moon" update? You know that iOS isn't 10 years old yet, right?

Who cares about an anniversary? Meanwhile, do we celebrate how the 9th year anniversary update isn't worth bothering with if you own a 6/6s?

Who are you to say that this year's iPhone isn't a worthy upgrade? I think you should let people decide that for themselves.

Oh and if people like you aren't getting it, more stock available for the people who do want it!!

hope wireless earbuds are included...only way they'll be able to save face if they're killing the option to listen and charge at the same time.

they're not killing the option, you'll just need to buy a separate 80$ adapter to do it at the same time. HINT HINT MACBOOK 12"

The biggest mistake Apple made was dishing and dismissing oled 2 or 3 years ago for their iPhones . And that is really the responsibility of Tim Cook and the management at Apple.
Perhaps they were betting on microled, when they acquired luxvue. But since they don' t have their own display plants, they have to rely on other manufacturers. They have been betting on one and the wrong horse. They should have had a backup plan.
They should have made the decision to move to oled one year earlier, so they could bring us an entirely new iPhone this year.

The 3.5mm headphone jack is 4.26mm in diameter. The iPod Touch 6G that I have at home is 6.1mm thick. Now the iPhone 7 might be 1mm thinner than the 6 which is 6.9mm thick or the 6s which is 7.1mm thick... which would result in a thickness of 5.9mm or 6.1mm respectively. There would still be room for a 3.5mm jack.

This means that a removal of the 3.5mm headphone jack is be highly illogical! However, as we know Apple, they do away with universal standards rather aggressively. I just hope that the iPhone gets USB-C then.. and not the proprietary Lightning.

Case Design Guidelines for Apple Devices

you know, they could always use the 2.5mm micro jack if that was the case, some phones before iphone already used it and adapters for 3.5mm are super cheap, they even usually ship with portable headphones.

thing is, cables break. and those mini connectors are a pain in the ass to resolder.

On the other hand, air doesn't break

Cmon... I mean, the screen is the least of my concerns with my iPhone 6. I seriously doubt screen technology would propel iphone anywhere. I love the screen

You love the screen. I also love the screen of the 6s plus. But to make phones with less bezel, curved displays to make to the phone smaller in footprint, their iPhones thinner(less power) their current in-cell ips LCD technology isn' t suited for that.
I don't prefer oled, but there are also a lot of advantages because of power consumption , deeper blacks and the ability to curve the displays.
Apple has made a judgement error 2 to 3 years ago and should have approached Samsung or LG one year earlier. Instead of this year.

If iPhone 7 is ****, I'll keep my 6+, buy Nexus or 1+3, and wait one more year for iPhone 8 or whatever it's called.

Don't worry Apple, I'll gladly replace my expensive £200 Bose headphones for an expensive pair with a proprietary lightning port. I'll even be happy to buy the expensive adapter when you decide to change the lightning port on future phones. As long as you are happy with your 1mm thinner phone.

Love this news. Making my 6s+ just more and more amazing, lol.

On a serious note, they should just skip 2016's iPhone and save everything for the 2017 one. It will not only make it more anticipated, but it could also mask the uproar of the removal of the headphone jack with those other really amazing features.
That's exactly my suggestion, they technically did release an iPhone for 2016 (iPhone SE), just skip the 6s/6s+ update and just release the next iPhone in 2017, maybe release it earlier to coincide with the 10 year anniversary

They have to release something this fall.
A lot of people with iPhone 6 are going to upgrade their phones after two years, and even if the design will be roughly the same they're going to get 3Dtouch, a faster CPU and a better camera. Customers with the upgrade program with iPhone 6s are going to be disappointed but they have the option to keep their phone and sell it next year before enrolling to a new program

How about 6S*squared* ?

iPhone 6SA (A = Again)

I guess to each his own then.
I use my phone for things other than day to day activities, so the processor upgrades make a significant difference.

I am genuinely curious, not trying to be a jerk. What are those uses other than day to day activities that benefit from the A9 processor?

I imagine the final design review must've been like this.

Tim Cooke: "let's see it Johnny"

Johnny I've: "it's 1mm thinner, I'm really proud of it"

Tim:"WTF! It's still got that stupid fu#@ing camera bulge!"

Johnny:"but mein fuhrer my Apple Pencil broke before I could finish my design"

Angela Ahrendts:"mein fuhrer maybe we can get Phil Schiller to manufacture a different colour case, I can have matching Apple Watch bands made"

Craig Federighi: "shut up Ahrendts! Schiller..... Schiller is no longer hardware since he innovated his ass on the Mac Pro"

Tim Cooke: "all those who had nothing to do with this design leave the room"

And so on......

I saved more time not taking the time to upgrade to the 6S and restoring all my apps+data then you've saved with the incremental CPU upgrade, that you're desperately trying to pass off as innovative.

It took me no more than 20mins but ok.

No, what is ridiculous is that everyone here seems to think that Design change = Innovation.

There are countless articles on the web speaking about the innovation that is the AX series of processors.

iMac
MacBook Pro
MacBook
Mac Pro
iPod

Majority of them . My point is that they have not made an annivesary model, and yet you are saying next years iPhone will be an anniversary model, hence I am saying its out of character . Just as likely they are moving to a three year cycle, That's all.

They have already clearified why they are skipping a year. The materials/technology needed to build the 2017 iPhone are not ready yet and they needed more time. Apple has released a new iPhone every year since launch, if they decided to skip a year and not release a new model their stock would take a massive hit.

If they had only released the first iPhone in 2006, we'd be one year ahead right now. I blame Steve Jobs.

Wasn't there an article posted literally like yesterday claiming the the '16 iPhone will ship with EarPods & standard 3.5mm headphone jack that also claimed to have come from an extremely reliable source? If you're gonna report on out of pocket rumors, can we at least have some consistency?

The article said that the earpods included would be the standard 3.5mm earpods but would also come with the lightning adapter.
