iPhone 8? Why not just call it iPhone 7 and call the 2016 model the 6S Pro or 6T or some bullcrap because it's sounding like that one's going to be a very minor upgrade.

IMO, they should drop the number and letter schemes and just have "iPhone" releases each year.

I mean, we don't have numbers or letters for Mac, iMac, Macbook, Macbook Pro, iPad, or Apple TV releases. And these products are available in many different sizes and configurations.

God I hope not. The novelty of it made some go wow like if it was the first time they saw glitter, but it has no reason to exist.

If this is true it means Jony and everyone have given up. With no SJ things go south pretty quickly don't they.

It occurs to me that we're hearing so many rumors about the 2017 phone because anything is plausible that far out, and there's still room for a face saving "Apple changed plans" between now and shipment. The 2016 phone is too close to release for there to be any remaining ambiguity.

Yeah, I'm surprised they haven't dropped it already. The iPad had numbers for a while, but then that was dropped with things like "iPad Air" and such. So if they do call the next one "iPhone Pro" (terrible name, but hypothetical), that might cause the numbers to drop off.

All this curvy stuff is so gimmicky. I can't imagine Apple ever doing this.

IMO, either go big with the idea, or don't do it at all. What I want to see is real innovation with flexible screens. I want to see real innovative design again with phones.

We know OLED screens are capable of being rolling right up. Not tightly rolled, but certainly 35mm film style rolled. We also know Apple is capable of designing triangular, dual sided board layouts inside the cylindrical Mac Pro.

So, where's our rumors of phones where you roll the screen out (like camera film), with all the other phone parts contained inside a slender cylinder?

I keep imagining a pen. Which rolls out into a phone. Which rolls out further into a small tablet.

All this 2017 iPhone talk there is zero reason to purchase a new iPhone in 2016 then. The iPhone 7 is a fail before its even release, Apple is not going to be anything worth it in the 7

Not curved enough...

I'm waiting for the iBananaPhone;

Apple is all about added functionality through design.

What functionality can the curved edges provide that will actually be useful?

Apple doesn't do gimmicks, and I don't think they would add on manufacturing costs just to create a "better looking" phone without justifying it with some practical functionality.

You're mostly right, except for when Apple keeps making the phone thinner. That's purely a design thing and IMO the ultimate gimmick. What function does it serve that the previous iPhone couldn't do? If anything, it takes away from battery life and space for other internals...cough..camera hump...cough.

Vivo X Play, shame on your copycat Samsung Galaxy Edge design! (Wonder how Samesung likes it?)

Apple, please don't also copy that barf of a phone design.

Have you ever seen the Edge irl? (not the guy from U2 but the Samsung phone)

I must say that I was impressed by the design, shape materials and quality the first time I've seen it. I'm an iPhone owner from G3, iPhone4, iPhone5 and now own the iPhone 6. This will be the first time that I will consider an Android phone. In case the rumors are true about the iPhone7 to come out in 2017...

so at the 2016 iPhone announcement, Tim Cook will say this new phone is like everything we've made before but just a little bit better. wait until you see the 2017 model and everything we're adding to that, to entice you to buy this 2016 model we're bumping up the memory

Like this: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sciencet...ng-patent-reveals-firm-s-folding-handset.html and http://www.businessinsider.com/samsung-flexible-foldable-phone-vidoes-2015-9

Apparently the Samesung has copied Apple BEFORE Apple has rolled out such innovations.;)

I hope not. I just returned my samsung s7 edge and got an iphone 6s plus instead. My fingers/grip kept touching the screen and randomly would press things. Impossible to use IMO. Maybe I'm the only one, but it's a dumb design and gives absolutely NO benefit. The screen edges start to warp so text looks weird, pictures darken in the edges. Pressing edges to get extra apps? Sure, or just create another swipe from right on a normal phone for the same functionality.

Again, my two cents, but edge screens is not as good as it is made out to be.
