If the rumor is correct, the source says the $450 SE2 targets India, Indonesia, and SE Asia.

I would not expect an A11 or fancy features. To save costs, I would expect it to be a de-featured iPhone 7: TFT 4.7" display, A10, 2GB RAM, 32GB storage, no 3D Touch, no official water resistance.
sadly, you are probably spot on.
an A11 SE2 would kill the iPhone 8

Exactly, giving the newer internals allows apple to not upgrade it as frequently. A10 is already 1.5 years old, if Apple does another 2 year cycle for the SE2 then the processor will be 3.5 years old by that point...
When the iPhone SE was released in March 2016, it had the exact same internals as the iPhone 6S, which was Apples latest iPhone offered at the time. So it was not Technically behind a generation.
Agreed, it will probably get the A11 with 2 GB of ram like the 8, but hard to say what other changes will be made from the current SE as it is likely to remain a mixture of parts from existing iPhones. 3D touch seems unlikely unless the phone is getting a full redesign (which recycling an existing design is part of how Apple keeps the production and thus selling price down). Cameras will probably see some upgrades but may or may not be on par with the 8 (but the ISP from the A11 should help either way). Maybe 2nd generation Touch ID this time?

If they keep it a 4" phone, I'm almost surely to be in. I'm still using a 5s and am finally ready to ditch my 4 year old phone. The iPhone SE form factor is perfection for me. Put in an A11 and the SE will be the best iPhone on the market IMO (I couldn't care less about 3D touch or face recognition and the current camera is good enough).

Not true. It lacked:

- the better front facing camera (still used the same as on the 5s)
- the faster TouchID 2.0
- 3D touch

So sadly, it kept a lot of the 5s stuff. In the end, it just got faster with a better rear camera.

Yeah, those were hardware differences, but the internals were the same as the newest iPhone at the time. I'm sure a new SE wouldn't get things like wireless charging, either.

In my case, I'll just keep my SE until it either dies or they make a new one. I don't want to go back to the larger phones.

No thanks.

Got my eyes on the pixel 2.

It has an amazing feature. It can continue to download files in the background when I turn the screen off. Yea, revolutionary.

If we have to have an aesthetics change, what about keeping the form factor but shrinking the bezels? In other words, fill more of the available space on the front with screen while leaving the rest as is. That gets us the same compact form factor with a bigger screen.

I don’t mind some distance between the edge of the device and screen. It isn’t much now. When I pick up my phone my fingers or part of my palm hang over the front edge of the phone. Having some distance from the edge of the screen is actually a good thing for me.

Personally I’ve never understood the drive to completely remove the bezels in a hand held device. People seem to favor that so I’m not saying it isn’t a popular decision. It just doesn’t appeal to me at all.

Is that really a problem though?

Apple launched iPad in March 2017 with a 1.5 year old A9.

Keep in mind the SE 2 is likely to be discounted from $449 to $349 or even $299 in a few years.

I fully agree - I don't think the SE even needs a CPU upgrade, but they'll probably put an A10 in there just to keep it on track and usable on new iOS versions for another 2 years.

"The sources said that Wistron will ship to the Indian market first before providing the products to consumers in other markets."

I can't seem to find anything saying that it would be Indian market or regions in that part of the world only (and never to USA).
Is that said somewhere?
I read both articles and posted a quote from them. I think here on MR we had heard that India wanted to promote  in their country but they also want to increase sales and those three countries aren't listed in the english language articles here on MR. Maybe he can read whatever that language is but the referenced english language articles don't support his OP, that I can find.

I’d wager that with the rapid decrease in iPhone X and 8 orders being placed by Apple to its vendors, it’s a good bet that the SE2 will have an A11 inside.

It’s called moving inventory

Same deal happened with the 6S and how everyone was blown away that the SE had 6S internals, but 6S sales also were less-than-stellar.

Kind of a toss up if we’ll see a different chassis, better camera module, no headphone jack, etc. I’m hoping for all three of those, but we’ll see.

Amen!!! Sadly however, that doesn't seem to be in Apples DNA, they always feel they have to "improve" things by making them slimmer.

Upgraded Touch ID, A11, True Tone Display, more battery life and maybe a slightly improved camera would be a hit.

if it is true I'm buying. If not I'm changing battery on my iphone 5. I hate the big sizes.

Apple should not make this phone to be a cheap model for the masses, but rather pump it up to highest specs.
I hate mini steps.

quite the same here. i wouldn‘t mind a 2nd generation touchID and a better camera though, but im willing to trade those for a 4" form factor. i hope they do it like they did with the 6s - SE and keep the current cpu (and don‘t downgrade it to an a10). water resistance would be nice, but i guess that would mean a redesign. not that i wouldn‘t welcome a redesign as long as they keep it pretty, e.g. not as bland as the 6-8. doesn‘t have to be low priced either, about 500 would be perfectly acceptable (although i’m afraid that’s already a low to medium priced hamdset in tim cook’s mind).i don‘t care about a headphone jack, 3d-touch (i actually find pressing down on hard surfaces pretty unpleasant) or faceID.

I can read. Thanks for asking.

You SE fans are acting like it is a 6s. It isn't as anyone who ever used a 6s can attest.

Lets say you all get your dream of 8 "internals" in an SE form factor. So what. It will still feel like a childs toy and will have a screen suitable for texting and selfies. But hey, its cheap so...

For all intents and purposes relating to speed and performance the SE is a 6S if not faster due to the lower pixel count. I Selfies aren't really that interesting to me and the Touch ID is fast enough.

Personally the iPhone 8 and X are toys to me. No headphone port, glass back and front, gimmicky Face ID, too big to be useful for me. I'm able to do everything I want with my SE, the screen is big enough for anything.

Oh god, that would be a nightmare. Maybe they could do a Mini X and an SE with the internals of the X but keeping the Home button and Touch ID.

Well thanks for speaking for me. You see, I have a 6S AND an SE. I SIM swap back and forth between them and I can tell you, the SE is nothing more than a 6S in a smaller, easier to handle phone. My biggest mistake in buying the 6S was thinking that during the winter, when I wear jeans, I would get the 6S and a belt holster and be perfectly happy. Turns out I'm not happier. My mistake. I prefer the SE over the 6S.
