I wish Apple would just take a small (4"), medium (4.7"), large (5.5") approach. Every model is basically the same. Small and medium could be the same price to avoid having the small steal sales from the medium - people who want a smaller iPhone are probably willing to pay the "regular" price for it.

Exactly - I agree with this totally, yet there seems to be this weird thing with people that a smaller screen means it should be cheaper and I think Apple are scared of that, thus, they wont get away with a 4" device at the same price as the 4.7" and would be mocked for explaining in the keynote that its got all the same internals and it was harder to engineer to put them into a smaller space when they say it costs the same.

...In other words I think general public perception is screwing us out of the perfect sized iPhone line up for everyone.

I'm potentially interested in upgrading from my iPhone 5S for a larger screen, but I have to say, I have zero complaints about its performance on iOS 9. It is very fast. Apple shouldn't bother with this. Just introduce the iPhone 7 in 3 sizes with the same specs across the board in September.

If they were going to do an SE they should have done it last year. Also 5X would make more sense. I'd probably be willing to go with a 5 body with the internals of a 6S when my upgrade from my 6 is up. Going with the internals of a 6 would be stupid though. Apple needs to add enough capacity of NEW A series chips and stop trying to sell last year's tech at this year's prices.

Before everyone denounces the whole idea of the iPhone 5se, consider the following: many iPhone owners don't like the larger form factor of even the iPhone 6/6s models. The iPhone 5s easily fit into men's shirt pockets and women's purses; with the iPhone 5se, you get essentially the functionality of the iPhone 6 but in a smaller, easier to handle form factor--important in China and India, where users generally like smaller form factor phones.

Do you use any apps for your phone that require iOS? If not, you could've just gotten a cheaper Android. If you're really not into ANY apps, you should just do what I hear some folks did... sell the iPhone, replace it with a dumbphone that has quadruple the battery life, and use the iPad for iOS access

Still seems on par with the Xboxes...
Xbox
Xbox 360
Xbox One

Of which the first one was often referred to as "the first Xbox", so that was quite unnecessary.

Well I do have an Apple Watch and use iCloud for email and storage. I also prefer the "polish" of the IOS apps compared to their android counterparts.

vs 6C or 6 Mini? I'd have preferred 6 Mini, but Apple has used SE in the past.

Come this fall, they may just have the 5SE, 6S, and 7. Maybe they think having "5, 6, 7" will make it easier to differentiate.
I think 'Mini' would be best. Anything but 'SE'.

That is such a bad name for a new iPhone. It gives the impression that it's still in the "5th generation" of iPhones when in fact it would be in the 6th.

Not A9 and 2GB no party.

Iphone 5se? Why don't just call it iPhone Mini and start a new "family"?

2016 and still 1gb of ram. I love my Mac and even more my iPad Air 2 but, on the phone side, we (me and wife) will stay stuck on the Sony Z3c and Z5c series.
At least we get the best of two worlds...

Can't say I understand the point of the hard-edged metal 5se. People who post on technology message boards (such as this one) never liked the 5c, but the people who bought it really liked it. Particularly, in my observation, women, who preferred the rounded plastic as well as the smaller size for carrying in their pockets. Going to a hard-edged metal leaves that market unserved by Apple.

With the iPhone 5se, Apple may be aiming to introduce a device that's going to deliver up-to-date features to customers who prefer smaller devices while still refraining from competing with its flagship 4.7 and 5.5-inch iPhones.

Lol. "Up-to-date features"? Such as a 2 year old processor (hopefully not), 2 year old RAM capacity, 16GB storage, no up-to-date 3D touch, out of date camera resolution, and 4 year old screen resolution, all for $500+??? I think the article should just have that part of the sentence removed. And I hope that price is way off, but I don't think it is. Super lame! As others have said, Steve would not be happy.

...do you guys ever think we're too critical of the phones that are released? Maybe we should be criticizing things that matter like the UN or the United States House of Representatives instead?

Such good phones. I think people forget how nice a compact phone is.

I still roll with the iPhone 4, so I'm game - but I'm not paying the Apple "premium" if the phone doesn't match up to the latest specs. I wouldn't trust Apple to not antiquate my device with a new iOS, leaving me in the same boat again.

But I did give the latest 6s a trial run, only to find out that I had zero use for the "Hey Siri" gimmick - except one night I told her to set an alarm to wake me up the next day. Which made me realize I was chunking out around a grand because I was too lazy to pick up a stupid phone to set an alarm :)

I'm not sure how well the chamfered edges of the 5/5s unibody will look with a "2.5D" 6/6s style display glass. That seems more suited to the 5c's curved plastic shell.

Well, I guess we will find out soon enough.
