Again, as long as it doesnt get too crazy I will make my way over there after work on Friday to record the events. Its only a 10 minute walk for me and I have my digi-camera at hand. I wont get there till almost exactly 6 so I hope its not too crowded.

As another user posted, doesn't seem very conducive to crowd management. Very bizarre concept for a retail outlet, all things considered.

Doesn't look like the press conference will be of any interest today other than to get the word out about the store, and to announce any live event coming out tomorrow.

As for the new FinalCutExpress, isn't this the first Universal version? I could certainly be wrong about that.

Easy answer...

Though this is supposed to be Apple's flagship NYC store - I'm surprised they didn't install escalators going down which would keep crowd movement flowing like some subway entrances...

That's because in NYC people go faster walking on stairs than standing on escalators.

Ahh!

Ah man this sucks. I'm driving my mom to the airport tomorrow so she can fly to NYC to visit my sister, but I'm not going. :(

The glass cube looks amazing! I didn't except the Apple logo to be a part of it either. I'll be at the grand opening tomorrow night... I can't wait! :D If anyone wants, I can bring back photos and even post from the store itself.

so....what about the press briefing *-now-*?

anyone gonna be there?!

any news? ANYTHING?

oh man, i'm getting the shakes....

I was in the apple store in Roosevelt Field (30 minutes from NYC) on Wednesday and was telling the employees that a friend and I were half-jokingly planning on sleeping outside starting tonight for the opening at 6PM tomorrow. They then pointed to a guy that couldn't have even been 30 and told us that he's the manager of the new store. We tried getting some information out of him, but it didn't get too far. However, he DID tell us that there are already people waiting as of Wednesday morning, some that have flown out from California. This thing's certainly going to be a spectacle... ;)

so the press conference is 10am est? i kind of want to drive in right now, as im only 25min from the city, but i dont want to pay around 50 dollars to park for 3 hours

I'll be there--- got roped into taking my teenager and a bunch of her friends tomorrow for the opening and dinner afterwards.

Not like they had to twist my arm or anything ;) . And I am definitely not driving in -- Metro North all the way.

Now if only my husband would let me buy him a new MacBook to replace his aging PB! :(

The shape of things to come?

I wonder if that storefront design will carry over to the products? A clear MacBook would be neat if not cool. Have to get rid of any wiring cheats though.

As first in line on the scene with Gary from ifoapplestore, we can report the press conference was of no consequence. -Stormy

I wonder how much snow and ice this cube can support, being that it is open directly to the store below
All structures are designed for these types of loads...engineers aren't stupid!

See, that's a lovely staircase and all... but what about women wearing skirts/dresses?!
How old are we?

EDIT: Nevermind you are a woman...these things are acceptable to say for you.

As a New Yorker not much gets us excited and we think we've seen it all, however this is exciting. I will be there tomorrow for the live event and grand opening. Must take camcorder.

We need an update on the press event! Will there be a music event? Was Steve Jobs there?

Okay, I'll try to be a little more patient. :p

Considering the Cude, it would have been nice if the logo was actually a 3-D rounded Apple :)

But it does look good.
It would not have been possible. You cannot make it so that the actual logo can be seen from every single angle. You try it.

Um, why wouldn't that be a qualified issue to consider, regardless of gender? Especially since many women are still not considered professionally or formally dressed unless in a skirt/dress.

For gosh sakes, this was the first Olympics (the ones in Torino, Italy) when a female ice skater was allowed to wear pants in competition.

And I think I could peel that covering off faster. :p Years of experience in playing w/ stickers.
