Was just about to say the same.

The rating system should be removed as it is clearly being abused.
An opinion is fair enough but it's obvious that people just vote negative to annoy people.

It's like this, "Hey, I'm making more of a difference to the figures if I vote negative"

Just like on Who Wants to Be a Millionaire when you get a couple of people who vote for the obviously wrong answer on "ask the audience" so they 'show up' on TV.

There are many times I've forgotten that its a rating system and I click to see positive or negative viewpoints, assuming its sort of a moderation system like slashdot has. So I've rated some things negative that I thought were actually positive.

It's... so... pretty...

All structures are designed for these types of loads...engineers aren't stupid!
Yeah, but did they take into account all the pigeon poop they'll have to clean off the top every day?

I asked them about this and they have a forcefield around it that repels such non-Apple "juice."

It's really very clever. :)

Can those who voted negative please explain their thought process in voting that way please? Its only a news announcement about peeling plastic off some glass for goodness sake!!!!!

It seems like the most random news stories, even if they're wonderful all-around news stories, get negative votes.

A headline of "Apple Computers responsible for ending all wars, hunger, and poverty" would probably manage to get some negative votes here at MacRumors.

That does it! I officially give up my plan to visit every single Apple Store in the world. They'll have 200 before we know it, and the price of gas and jet fuel keeps going up. So never mind that idea.

But you can bet I'll visit this one the next time I'm in New York!

Seems like lots of money spent on something that does very little. Sure I like it but I would have liked to see more creative use of the space. Coulen't they thing of something else it could do besides be pretty...

Actually, it does a LOT. This was an open plaza previously, with unsuccessful businesses operating below. Why were they unsuccessful? Probably because no one knew they were there. I'd say a frickin huge glowing glass cube will let a couple of people know you're there, and you mean business.

The store will be a HUGE success. I gave my congratulations to The Schiller himself this morning, but he wasn't so chatty!

I think these people had something to do with the cube. :)

They did the engineering. The architects in charge of all the Apple Stores are Bohlin Cywinski Jackson.

As another user posted, doesn't seem very conducive to crowd management. Very bizarre concept for a retail outlet, all things considered.

BTW, the steps themselves are actually some sort of green, translucent glass. So you're not gonna be able see much through them.

As already explained: the store itself is underground. What you're seeing in the photos is an above ground entrance.

The "underground store" thing is common in NYC - too many businesses trying to find surface space on a small section of a small island.

It's common in Chicago, too. Rents are cheaper if you're not at street level. You'll have a small street level entrance, with a stairwell either leading down into a much larger 'underground' space or up into a larger second floor space.

Here's a full run down of pics check it out LINK
I think its absolutly stunning Apple really went all out with this one,

Yah, they should have made it, like, BEIGE.

We need some people to post some high quality pics for wallpapers! :-D

I didn't take many in the store (without people was impossible), but here's my favorite of the workman who was setting things up. He looks little like someone at Apple...:p
