Wait, something that has not been announced and has not been giving a release date is delayed? Blasphemy!! get the torches!!

It will be delayed when it gets a release date and it's missed, and that has not happened yet.

How would a Morgan Stanley analyst know this? I doubt Huberty is hanging out with Apple suppliers.

I'm happy to wait a month. I never understood why everyone has such a hard on for OLED. Will the new OLED models have the same problem with temperature and image burn?
I’ve never seen an OLED smartphone screen but the TVs are simply gorgeous. No contest the best available and the best ever, particularly when combined with Dolby Vision HDR.
[doublepost=1532531360][/doublepost]Do I have this right? This year’s comparable “X” will be $300 less than last year?

Glad I waited!

I don’t understand why Apple charges such a premium for oled, when it’s being used in basically every other manufacturers flagships for much cheaper.
Oled is nice. Not worth $500 (australian) premium at all.

Oled panels are not equal.
Other flagships use a cheaper panel.

You get what you pay for.

No idea why it’s so much more in Australia.

I think the other features along with OLED help drive people towards these models. I never had any issues with temperature or image burn on my X. I don't expect any problems with the next version.
[doublepost=1532531969][/doublepost]Doesn't much matter to me as I am likely going with the X Plus, but I don't quite buy that there will be a delay on the LCD model. We'll see what happens though.

I am actually planning on downsizing to the 5.8 inch phone and am hopeful the pricing estimated will remain in place. So a delay in the LCD Phone wouldn't affect me.

Better start understanding now, else fan boys will cut your cojones off

Don't buy this rumor. However, I do expect a more price sensitive option this fall even if it is a 2017 X on clearance since I am sure carriers want to jettison excess inventory.

Manufacturing costs play a factor. The OLED in the X has to be bent at the bottom to avoid a bottom chin/bezel. This is something no other manufacturer has been able to do. Face ID also added to costs significantly, which is another feature no manufacturer has been able to replicate due to costs. Apple is a premium brand that sells a premium product, cheap android manufacturers can't offer the same features due to cost.

This is pure strategy.
Sell costlier models first. If they release cheap model along with costlier models, the sales of costlier model may get cannibalised.

Just like they did the last time, where they released the iPhone X first and then much after came the 8 and 8 Plus...

Oh wait...

Well, in fairness, near a year in my X has zero burn-in. As for the temperature change on tilt... sigh... yeah, that still exists. And when you notice it, it's still annoying. LCD is so much better than OLED in that regard.

I've been holding out on getting a development iPhone until this generation comes out. Looking forward to the iPhone X+ (or whatever it is called) to complement my Note8 (which is my first smartphone I haven't felt the urge to upgrade).

Something just dawned on me, we have literally no rumors on what the upgrades will be on the new 5.8 and 6.5 models. There’s lots of rumors on the fact that there will be 3 sizes, the 6.1 being a cheaper model and having a larger bezel, but I haven’t heard one distinguishing factor between the 2017 5.8 and the 2018 5.8/6.5

My guess is ProMotion, Face ID 2, camera improvements, updated processor/RAM, and software features specific to the OLED or the Plus model.

Maybe, but this still feels lacking for an upgrade. I know not to expect a lot because it’s a tock year, but usually they come out with one new major feature with their S-models (i.e. Siri, TouchID, 3D Touch).

Actually, now that I think about it, the whole tick-tock schedule is off now, because last year historically should have been an S-model release. So, who knows what they have planned going forward.

ProMotion would be pretty incredible on a phone so I see that as a big upgrade, but yea I kind of get your point. It's all incremental in my eyes as I don't really care about new features at this point. It's all fluff.

Exactly! What’s the incentive for current iPhone X owners to upgrade? Really, there’s nothing...

Apple is sourcing three different panels for their upcoming Sept 2018 iPhones:

6.5" OLED
----------
2.72" w x 5.90" h @ 1125 x 2436 w/ 413 PPI (4 GB)

5.86" OLED
----------
2.46" w x 5.32" h @ 1125 x 2436 w/ 458 PPI (4 GB)

6.1" LCD
----------
2.56" w x 5.54" h @ 1125 x 2436 w/ 440 (3 GB)

Well, yes and no. For me, Face ID could definitely get much better (which iOS 12 has helped a lot). I welcome improvements regarding speed, landscape, and more extreme viewing angles. This will make the experience much much better. Similar to the jump from Touch ID version 1 to 2, which was huge. My main point in it being incremental though is that all smartphone features are superficial at this point. We pretty much have everything we could want in our smartphones. The main reason I choose Apple isn't because of features year after year, it's because they provide the best overall platform when it comes to performance, security, privacy, ecosystem, apps, and support.

I'm happy for all these models, but I still think it's weird that Apple isn't also releasing a smaller one to replace the SE. Where we are, the SE is the phone of choice for kids owed to its size. I guess the actual sales numbers aren't that great if Apple isn't worried about it.

This years upgrades are for those who didn't upgrade to an 8 or X. I don't understand why people honestly think Apple's strategy is for the majority of iPhone users to upgrade yearly. They clearly talk about upgrade cycles in their financial calls so I don't get why people won't listen to them on that front.
