I was thinking about the resolution as well. That's getting really close to MBP resolutions on a much smaller screen. Plus, the PPI is probably much higher than an iMac's screen. I've heard that it's tough to scale OLED to larger screens, but still. Some other computer makers have 4K 15" laptops. For iMacs, since they're 5K now, Apple probably would want to use a 10K screen if they wanted PPI to be somewhat consistent between devices.

As for dual SIM cards, sounds interesting. Wouldn't mind a microSD as well, but not like that's going to happen. But never say never.
This is the reason I don't think an oled iPad will be forthcoming anytime soon - a pentile display looks absolutely crummy at PPIs of lower than ~450. To get to that pixel density on a 12.9" screen, you're talking 5k resolution!

Sooo their is absolutely no reason to change from the iPhone X to the iPhone 11 then?
Unless they drop the 11’s price.

As for a phone for every pocket? Erm no, I don’t consider a 6.1” pocketable really. The X is though.

I’m sure plenty in here will go mad and throw what ever Apple asks for the Plus model, even if it’s more then an Apple computer!

I can't believe these morons are going to bring out the iPhone X plus the size of the iPhone 8 plus. Instead of just giving us the SCREEN SIZE of the iPhone 8 plus in a smaller body (bezel-less). Nobody enjoys carrying around a phone that large!!!! It's been the only complaint of the plus size phones for 3 generations... we love the screen size... we hate the big bulky phone. How is this not completely obvious to anyone with half a brain cell?

I guess I am “nobody” then because I want a phone that large and so do others.

Dual Sim, NICE

Ugly AF Notch, NOT NICE

You do realize the notch is necessary because of the camera system and that it’s physically impossible to have those sensors at this point without the notch?

Maybe you want an outdated camera system I guess.

Nah fam, I'd rather it be blank all the way across the top. Having those corners looks horrible.

Yea I can't believe they didn't do that. I can't believe it didn't cost $999 and wasn't called the iPhone X.

They could just start the screen below the camera, like every other phone.

The iPhone X already does this more or less. It has a screen the size (total area) of the 'Plus' phones in a body almost the same size as the iPhone 6/7/8. Unless you meant a screen with the width of the 'Plus' phone's screen. But you won't be able to fit that into an iPhone 6/7/8 outline (the current 'Plus' screen is 68.4 mm wide, the 'non-Plus' iPhone is only 67.1 mm wide and you still need about two millimetres of bezel for technical reasons, plus another 2 mm on each side for the rounded edge).

Comparing the iPhone 6/7/8 with the iPhone X we have a screen 58.4 mm wide in a body that is 67.1 mm wide in the former and a 62.4 mm screen in a 70.9 mm wide body. The total side bezel (including the rounded edge) thus only got 0.1 mm thinner.

We don't hate this "big bulky phone" you speak of. It will be just about the same physical size of a iPhone 8 Plus with a bigger screen going to the edge. Lots people will like that. If you don't stick with the smaller iPhone X size.

You seem the fail to realize that in a lot of the world and for a lot of people in the US the phone is there primary computer so a bigger screen is a huge plus to them.

People don't have a problem caring around a phone the size of a iPhone 8 Plus thats clear by the number of sales the plus size phones have done.

Agreed.

I happen to like the idea of this larger size. My Note 8 is bigger than my iPhone 6 Plus was, but I still like it as is as the large screen real estate is worth it for a media consumption device (I don't really use it for voice as text is the main form of communication anymore for many). I rarely use it single handed and I am fine with that. I'm not even sure I used my iPhone 4 singled handed. I don't know what the fascination is for single handed use as I almost always have both hands available. Hold it with left hand, interact with the UI with the right hand. Type with both thumbs.

Pentile isn't the only OLED configuration. This leak supposedly came from an LG plant. LG is the leader in White-OLED screens—the tech used in their OLED TV's—which are either true RBG or RGBW. Historically, brightness has been a problem with these types of screens but iPad screens are often not as bright as iPhone screens and anyway Apple's engineers seem to be very good at coaxing better brightness from other people's OLEDs (compare the iPhone X to the Galaxy 8).

This is veering off-topic but I think LG white OLED tech for iPads make a lot of sense. Perhaps with the larger iPhone X too which could mean a lower PPI but better quality display. The biggest caveats (that I know of) are brightness and pixel density.

NOTE: LG's crummy OLED screens on the Google Pixel did not use white-OLED's but rather colored OLEDs like Samsung which aren't LG's strength.

The notch allows you to tuck some status indicators to the right and the left of the camera housing, leaving more space on the rest of the screen. It allows gives your phone a unique and interesting look. The question is really what percentage of potential iPhone X buyers sees that look as a plus and and which percentage sees it as detriment. As long as the latter is small enough in absolute terms and not larger than the former, this design gives the iPhone X an advantage.

I for one DO want a large bezelless iPhone. The screen will be incredible!

Pentile is a response to the fact RGB oleds colour shift over time as the blue diodes wear out more quickly than green or red ones - so if you normalise them again you'll just run back into that problem. Management of the effect is getting better but it still isn't there yet (which is why pentile still exists - it's fixing a problem which currently has no other solution).

I'm enjoying the X for the most part but I'll gladly purchase a 6.5" version. That might finally be the perfect size for me to avoid typos while texting.

I don’t know if any other phone that has the same type of depth sensing camera so there’s that.

Also why should iPhone mimic every other phone on the market?

I hear what you are saying however again with this type of camera system it’s impossible to do it any other way.

I really wish people would research their facts instead of complaining from the sidelines and being uninformed

They should just put back Headphone jack instead of dual sim.

I’m so happy they won’t bring back the jack. Thinner is better
