But what’s the charging speed with the 67W charger? 40% in 30 minutes? 30%? 20%?

It's primo with the 87 watt adapter. Oh, they don't sell the 87 watt adapter anymore. Oops...

They have too many adapter models! I mean, if the 87 watt adapter really only puts out 87 watts, *someone* put out a lot of money to dial in that adapter to that exact wattage output.

Think of the money, if that's true, if Apple had a range of adapters that were in certain watts and they could pull off-the-shelf power bricks instead of custom manufacturing so many 'odd wattage' adapters. So they make a 67 watt, a 140 watt, a 30 watt, and a 96 watt adapter. Wouldn't it be more cost effective to have a set range of power adapters? Couldn't they make a 50 watt, a 74 watt, a 100 watt, and a 150 (140) watt adapter? End the 'custom' wattage adapters?

Bean Counters will always be bean counters.

Tim Cook will never be a visionary, no matter how hard he tries. And if he drives visionaries from Apple, that will be his undoing.
Apple is bigger than Cook and always has been, but Apple wasn't really bigger than Jobs.
Tim Cook is not there for you, he’s there for Apple Shareholders, which are VERY happy with him doing his job as CEO of Apple.

Yes, and, no.

I would think that the average Apple investor would want Apple sold to Lenovo, and broken up for scrap metal. Their patents and HUGE CASH STORE are very sought after. They have an insane amount of cash on hand. I would think they could buy Lenovo, or most of Microsoft, and really turn the industry on their head. (I've wondered if Mike Dell's purchases are a hedge against a buyout offer)

I think they did so many stock splits because they boost share prices. That is why a single share of Apple from the original first IPO would be worth so much money. Investors are finicky though.

An almost $2000 machine and you need to pay extra for the fast charger lol. Such an Apple thing to do.
You get a fast charger included on every model except the base model.

Buying based model always lacks a feature. It usually only exists to up sell you. Car manufacturers have been doing it for years. This is not an “Apple thing to do”.

Err...Surely this just means it will take a little longer to reach 50% capacity. It's not like they won't still charge very fast up to 50%.

48 Wh delivered in ~30 mins from the 96 W charger to reach 50% capacity
48 Wh delivered in ~42 mins from the 67 W charger to reach 50% capacity.

This is just marketing gone mad.

If they'd chosen 40 mins as the magic "Fast-charge" benchmark, then all the adapters/combinations would make the cut.

An extra $20?! Really? Does Apple really need this extra for money for a charger that'll cost them a few extra pennies to make?

Yikes. Bad Apple.

Wow, all these complaints in here. Didn't realize there were so many pros out there they needed fast charge this much. What's your workflow? Multi-stream file encoding in between business presentations on the go? Need that extra speed to top up on your 5-min coffee breaks when you can get them?

No seriously, besides my sarcasm above...is there anyone that really cares about fast-charging their laptop? A phone I get, but what's the scenario where you somehow have managed to bring your charger with you but only have limited access to an outlet?

Has anyone seen any confirmation whether third-party PD USB-C chargers will work with the MagSafe 3 cable? I am assuming they will but have not heard a confirmation.

I've been using a Magsafe2-USB-C cable on my 2015 Macbook Pro for years now. Works great with USB-C chargers!

Same could be argued for the other way around. If it is only $20, why not include it and spare us the confusion. This is like the 3rd article on what you can or cannot do with Charger X on MacBook Pro Y

They could just add in a 100 watt block, and call it a day. To have the ridiculously specific blocks, and then they aren't worth using for other Apple devices because 'too small' is kinda nuts. Like the 87 watt block I found. 87... Not 90, not 80, but 87... It's probably (hopefully) high enough output to work with lots of other things, but it seems a little ridiculous to have 'specific model blocks', and then sell others that are 'close'. Include a 100 watt block, across the board, for all high use devices. Good grief...

I think YOU misunderstand HIM.

Hes saying that that 96w adapter will fast charge the 14in, but WONT fast charge the 16in. You need the 140w for that 16in Fast Charging.
Can a 67 watt adapter safely/efficiently charge the M1 Max 14 inch? I have ankers 65 W adapter . I would like to keep using it

My ideal charger would also have an additional USB-C charging port.

This concept that any of this crap costs pennies to make has seriously got to go. Margins on these things are super thin, sometimes at a loss.

I guarantee you there's more to this than what you see on the surface as to why 87 is what was chosen.

Well, you also have to pay an extra $20.00 to buy the Apple screen cleaner cloth to wipe the tears away for having to buy a fast charger:rolleyes: I think this nickel and dime stuff really reflects poorly on Apple. I know it is not a lot of money to get a great benefit, but they really should sell a complete package, rather than break out the charger that most everyone would want.
