As good as iPhone 5 was, Galaxy S3 already sold 20 million in 3 months and will come dangerously close to its numbers 1v1. Add in the 1000000000000000000000000000000000000 other Android devices, the quality issue with maps/black aluminum, I am not sure if Apple has enough legs after holiday season

If you took a look at Apple's quarterly numbers since the 4s released, you will be surprised to find that the 4s outsold the S3 2:1 in each of them running up to the last quarter when the pace stalled, obviously due to the impending iPhone released. And I am not sure if you took a look at the drop test results posted earlier on in the forums today - probably then you might come back and leave a comment about the S3's quality v/s the 5's quality.

Seriously, come on. It has a smaller battery but a solid battery life (I refer you to the Verge's review), makes more profit than the S3, has a better build quality than the S3, and now performs better.

20 million in 3 months ? Please. And if you are comparing sales figures, the iPhone is projected to sell close to 50 million next quarter, the big holiday season (and it is projected to sell close to 8 million this weekend - that is 8 million in 3 days, which will fall into sales this quarter, so pretty much by the end of Dec, they are projected to sell almost 60M in 4 months ).

Yay, now I can get a good night's sleep. :p

Great to see Apple keep pushing the graphic performance aggressively. I thought there was no way iPhone 5 would match the new iPad's GPU given the small-ish battery and the LTE but it looks like that's exactly what Apple has done. I'm curious to see when it'll be feasible to port some of the XBox360/PS3-level titles or at least ones that use the graphic assets of that generation.

Wait. THREE cores?

Are there any Mac rumors at 'MacRumors'?
Maybe it's time for a name change.

Agreed. It's more like MacStories. Actually, it's not even new stories -- it's more like reiteration of other people's stories. I started lurking in 2007, and even then there were a decent amount of rumors.... now it's just iToy with news recaps. I feel like the sites purpose has shifted significantly to recapping other's stories, and nothing else.

but can those graphics improve Apple's "Maps" app? :p

Believe it or not it actually does in one area. The new 3D flyover is surprisingly taxing on graphics. The iPhone 5 will easily outdo the iPhone 4S in providing smoother flyover.

The answer would depend on what you wanted to do with the computer. The 32 core machine would be best for many server type uses.

Or an iMovie encoding machine! :D

I'm curious. How much faster is iMovie in iPhone 5?

Make that +2 I just ordered two S3's for delivery tommorow, was following the iphone 5 release but nothing made me go omg, so me and the missus can now make use of this Buddyshare thing on the S3 as we are always taking pics of our 22 month old son.

Still love the look and quality of the I5, and love the fluidity of OSX just wish it had that "wow" factor.

WOW u and others r sadly missing the real WOW of the IP5 - the integration and ecosystem that comes with every apple product. If I wanted a "mini TV/Camera" which barely fit in my pocket that I couldn't manipulate with one hand.??? There is zero peace of mind that when you accidentally chuck your samsungs to the ground the phone will survive intact, yet all my IP's have survived much abuse with nary a scratch (yes, everyone knows that there are exceptions). There is no Samsung/Android store which will GIVE ME $2 in quarters so I can park and make my FREE Genius Bar appointment on time. Need I go on? This is a Mac lovers forum and its time for haters and traitors to leave the building, I for one am tiring of reading your petty posts (yes, I know I am a Fanboy-and proud of it, SAYONARA!

nothing wrong with 3 cores at all...

I'm just saying, Apple not done 3 cores before....

ANything "first come" from Apple, surprises me :) Also, surprising they didn't just do quad core.... May as well.

Well, they don't need quad core. And gpus already have massively paraallel architectures, so extra cores are nothing complicated to implement.

As for CPUs, AMD has been shipping X3 models, but those are only operational cores, the die has an extra core that is not functioning.

Why does it seem like every post about the iPhone 5 has a retaliation about how the Galaxy S3 is superior, and every post about the S3 has people spouting about the iFive? When I saw a poll some time ago on the MacRumours demographic, it seemed like the majority of us were aged 20-40. Why, then, are we acting like the kids that used to - and unbelievably still do - make "Xbox/PS3 IS BETTER" comments? Pick the piece of technology that works in your favour, and go your separate ways people.

QFT - and if would help, I'd quote that over and over again.

What really makes me sad about this...

...this shows to prove, Apple still has the intellectual power to design great chips. They also have the money in the bank. And they have a nice partner in Samsung when it comes to mass delivering these chips.

Why oh why do they let dry out the desktop market?

It's so ****in sad to see the Mac die a slow death. And anyone arguing against that: You can still see that iPhone sales have nil halo effect on Mac sales. First day sales exceed the quarterly Mac sales.

For the record: I still like my Galaxy and before I touch an iScratch5 I'l check out the Samsung AtivS or the Lumia 920. The HTC Win8X also looks nice. I'm in for a new mobile experience

Because Macs are more expensive. Paying 200 and paying 1,300 or 2,500 is no the same thing. Macs will be growing in marketshare, not by much, but they will. Mainly because there is more and more software for it. Once it gets rolling it will go faster and faster. I already know a lot of people who use OS X as their OS of choice, with Windows and Linux they occasionally need in VMWare Fusion. Even laptops are powerful enough for that today. But most of them i know use only Apple laptops, and Hackintoshes as their desktops (myself included). Their laptops are top of the line, but their desktops are not suited for most, that's why they have declining sales (or declining share in their overall sales)

Best chip samsung that has ever made it to the market. That must hurt them slightly.

No. When 'Android is faster' it's "Usability is more important than power.", when iOS is faster, it's "usability is more important than power. But it's faster, too!". :p

Sure you tell yourself that :D

And it's invariably the android fanatics who come in with paper spec comparisons (like the 'but the S3 is quad-core' one early in the thread).

iphone 4s works fine , s3 just as fast and no doubt iphone 5 just as fast, people whining their brand is better are just plain stupid .

Not really Exynos 5 is already there next generation like with apple based on arm A15 designs. Probably in devices beginning next year .

If it's 32 x 486 vs. 2 x i7, then no. Speed difference is just too much. And the power consumption on the 32 x 486 would kill you.

Next year. Exactly. Guess what, there will always be better chips, "Next year".

While Maps is a horror show for Apple everything else about the 5 is peachy.

Fandroids need to go back to their own forums. Who cares if you can stratch the 5? SIII's just cheapie plastic junk - HTC do better cheapo plastic phones.

4.8" screen? It's just silly. My friend has a free upgrade SIII on eBay right now because he couldn't handle it in regular fit jeans without looking pleased to see everyone. Perhaps if you're a lady with a handbag on you all the time or a man bag wearer, or a NuMetal fan in baggy carpenter jeans, it's less of an issue. But if you slip your phone into a typical pocket 4.8" is stupid.

Speed? Sorry, the 5 is just plain faster. Anything complex website make heavy use of JavaScript so that score is BIG. Even the 4 feels much faster on the web thanks to improvements in iOS 6.

Great. So iPad 4, sorry, the new, new iPad can use an A6X with 5 GPUs.

In reality they have just dropped the number (and did not official add 'new') . It is really iPad 2012 (Although that current support tech spec listing completely muddles the issue.
http://support.apple.com/specs/#ipad ). Next year likely will be the iPad 2013; commonly referred to as iPad.

There is zero need to go to 5 GPUs. They can either go with the same four shrunk down or pair them up with next generation GPU technology so only need 2 (maybe 3). Pair that with their tweaked A7 ARM (lower power A15 arch) and roll out.
