Apple's Back to School Promo Starting Next Week

One of our Apple sources has informed us that they’ve been hearing Apple’s yearly back-to-school special will be announced at WWDC next month. We have been told Apple will continue to offer educational discounts on computers and either a free iPod touch, or $229 towards the purchase of any other iPod. Our source also let us know that there might be something new in the works, as well… they heard that it’s possible Apple might offer students up to $200 off an iPad with the purchase of a new Mac. If true, this would be pretty great deal. If only Apple could make enough of them…

Sounds good! Also the word on Apple street is that OS X Lion will be released on the same day.

Hopefully June 6th will be an amazing day for us all.

Isn't it still better to get the iPod and sell it for 200-220 and use that for a iPad since it could be more than 200. I just read that same article about them

I personnaly will go for the iPod and keep it. I have and iPad (1st) so we really don't need another. I also have an iPod touch but seems like haveing 2 of those would make more sense. My wife pretty much stole mine for the kitchen dock anyway. I just don't want to kick in the extra for the iPad. Next thing you know I'll be trying to justify buying the best one because I'm getting $200 off.

HAHA I know exactly what you mean. I have gone from choosing the 13" MacBook Pro base model onto the i7 model thinking "ah well its only £300 more", and then thinking "I know, I should just get the 15 inch base model" only £200 more.
And finally I am going for that with the Hi-Res Anti-glare because its only £120 more on top of that. ARRRGGHHH! I'm broke.

Now that an iPad 2 has come into the equation I am completely scared of myself.
 
What generation 8gb iPod Touch will come with the deal?

Gonna try and sell it locally off FB or Craigslist since Ebay would be flooded with them.

So which gen and how much do you think I could get for it?

Are you sure you even want lion? What till the bugs are out.

If you're a student, not much. My school sells Snow Leopard for $39.

Hoping this promo drops soon... my school is offering the 15" base for $1575, and combined with a free iPod touch it'd be quite a deal.

Really? That's quite a deal! Which school are you in? My school is 1699 for the 15'' base one.

If the deal is on ipad2, I will definitely go for it!
 
I can't wait until WWDC for the back to school promotion to start. I'm leaving for vacation too soon after that to have time to order my MBP, have it arrive, and configure it before I leave. If it doesn't happen on Tuesday the 31st, then I'm just gonna have to suck it up and buy one that day without the iPod. I'm still getting the student discount, and I was planning on giving the iPod to my sister anyway. I'd hate to miss this deal, but it's not like it's the end of the world. Plus, my iPad will get here in a couple of weeks and that should balance out this slight disappointment.

This is true but it depends. They price match authorized resellers and MC is one of them. When I called the Apple Store, they told me since MC's deal required pick up only, they couldnt price match because thats considered a "special promotion" and they don't match that. Even though I would have gone to the Apple Store to pick up a MBP. Go figure.

Lion will be amazing. Snow Lepoard sells for 29 so it shouldn't be to unreasonable. June 7 can't come any faster.
 
I plan on buying the 27" iMac and want to keep Snow Leopard on it. I don't want Lion for the first few months until they work out all the kinks. I hope they do a deal for those who buy a computer right before Lion is released that way I can get a deal on Lion and have both a Lion Install DVD Snow Leopard DVD... I think thats the smartest way to go.

UChicago. It's a short-term sale until Jun 10 (I don't know if they're trying to clear out inventory or what). Unfortunately the value is kind of obliterated by Chicago sales tax, which is 10.25%. I'd actually be better off ordering from Amazon if I could still apply for the BTS promotion.

Does anyone know if the promotion is still valid if you order through MacMall or Amazon or what have you? (I found a Terms & Conditions page from 2006, and it says the offer is only valid if you order through the Apple Store or an Authorized Campus Reseller, so probably not.)
 
I wonder what's taking them so long? I would prefer the iPod over the discount on the iPad. I was hoping to purchase a laptop for school since it already started for me, but I suppose I will have to wait...

Why not return it and wait for the bts promo?

Also, Im going to save myself some aggravation and assume the sale will be announced at WWDC. That way, if its sooner, It will be a nice surprise. I just keep telling myself "It wont be this tuesday, it wont be this tuesday....":p
