Nothing on the Apple website and it's past midnight EST. Guess we'll go through the whole routine of again of checking:

  1. Midnight on the East Coast
  2. Midnight on the West Coast
  3. When the stores open on the East Coast
  4. When the stores open on the West Coast

I guess the time stores open on the west coast would be most possible. :D

I would think it would either be Midnight West Coast or when stores open East Coast. I don't think Apple would begin a promotion three hours after opening on the East Coast.

UK online education store

I have been trying to log on to the Apple education store (UK) the last half an hour and it seems not working.. (says: webpage not found).

I have always been able to access the education store using my university's internet connection... I have been looking at the education store far too frequently the last few days...

Could it be a sign for the upcoming promo?!

AHHHH I WANT MY MBP!

It's working just fine here in the US...no promo yet.

An online chat staff gave me a magical link to the education store and there were no changes to the store :S

she did however confirm that, as mentioned numerous times earlier, the hardware warranty provided through the ONLINE education store is 3 YEARS! I am so buying my through the ONLINE store! :D

Link to this?

Just called the my apple store down the road, the guy said the following about the warranty for purchases through RETAIL STORES:

"all products come with one year standard warranty, however if you are a student, you are eligible for a massive discount on Applecare, from approx. £280 down to £58... and that will extend the warranty of your MBP (17inch) up to three years..."

According to the ONLINE education store terms and conditions:

"10.1.1 All Apple-branded desktop and portable computer products sold after October 1st 2005 within the framework of the HE National Agreement shall be subject to a 36 calendar month warranty period (the “HE National Agreement Warranty”) commencing from the date of delivery."

Link to the terms and condition is here. I read this while connected to my university internet, link may not work for non-education internet connections (?)

This is my interpretation of the whole thing anyway:

Online UK ED store + student purchase = Free 3 years warranty :D

UK Retail store + student purchase = 1 year warranty (but cheap APPLECARE)

Guys, relax, just wait a lil, chill out and check the website next day
I agree. Why so anxious?? :) We know the promotion will start for sure in just a few days, right?? Why does it have to be tomorrow?? Lol, for some people it's as if their lives depended on it :p Come on, it is just a laptop. We can wait :D Only a few more days to go!! ;)

Sadly, this is the case for the UK but NOT for the US. I just double checked, and the HE warranty is the standard 1 year: http://store.apple.com/Catalog/US/Images/salespoliciesHigherEd.html
So, to get the 3 year warranty as a US student, you have to purchase apple care...

Normal US Apple store: base MBP13 is $1199 + 249 for apple care
US HE webstore: base MBP13 is 1099 + 183 for apple care
My university's store: base MBP13 is 1232 but INCLUDES apple care.

That's correct. I made a thread for UK students here going into all the details. You also get the free warranty of the phone.

As LadyCiel pointed out it is for UK students only, so nobody else buy a Mac without AppleCare thinking you get a 3 year warranty for free!

What about for US. Online education store purchase means 3 year warranty?

No, it has been clearly stated a free three year warranty is ONLY for UK students! If you buy in the US you get one year, but there is a discount on AppleCare.

No, US does NOT get a 3-year warranty for purchasing in the online education store. To get 3 years as a US student, your only option is Apple Care (or a 3rd party after-market warranty). See my post a couple lines up.

Lion related announcements have just been confirmed for the WWDC next week.

Just out of interest, IF during the WWDC next week it was announced that LION will be available say from July, would you guys wait until then to purchase your new laptop/desktops with LION pre-installed?

Personally, I want my new MBP with Lion. :p

Nope.
1) Going away June/July, want a new MBP/iPad for the trip.
2) I would be buying Lion anyway to update my other Macs.

Its 11:36AM in the east, on the last Tuesday of May and there is still no sign of the BTS promotion.

I am very surprised it was not announced today or even last Tuesday. So I am assuming it will be announced at the WWDC then?

I know last week some thought it would be announced Wednesday, anybody willing to think Wednesday of this week for the promotion to start?

Just curious!

No way. Def next week. Apple is scheduled to announce and demonstrate on Monday at WWDC so
Expect it to be next Tuesday the 7th

Just got back from the store after buying my first MBP!

I asked them and they said if it's announced within the next 14 days, I can bring my receipt in and they'll "return" and then put in a purchase for the same S/N laptop.

One thing I was concerned about was losing Barclay Visa's 0% financing for 12 months since I heard it would only apply to the first purchase and if I would lose it since even though I wasn't purchasing anything new, the laptop would be on the "2nd" transaction.

I called them and they said as long as I do it within 30 days, the 0% financing will remain.

ALSO, it seems as if Apple already has the printer deal going. Doesn't really matter to me since I don't need it but I got a wireless printer with a slip for a $100 rebate.

You *are* a newbie ;) .

After a keynote, the forums are mostly filled with complaints and whining about how whatever was announced didn't come up to the rumours, or doesn't work for "me", or various other WTF complaints.

Apple's hype machine works wonders, but it often gets people to expect more than is delivered - and the "after the keynote depression" sets in.
