Is anyone else bothered that the front colors don’t match the back colors? I love the blue and red from the back but not a fan of baby blue and pink on the front, maybe it’s just me?

I’ve still been with Apple for 7 years. That’s when I got an iMac and a MacBook.
That’s great and thanks for being here. Macs are great. I think the issue is that some of us have “been with Apple” for 40 or so years so from that perspective, <20 years is recent and <10 years is new. :) It’s never too late to join the Apple crowd.

So, the new iMac is a smashed-flat M1 Mac Mini with a 24” screen pasted on it and better sound and video. I’m not entirely surprised that the first M1 iMac is just a jumped-up cross of an iPad Pro and a Mac Mini, or more like an M1 iPad Pro with a glandular problem, but it would have been nice for them to come out with something for those of us who use our computers as more than a fashion statement or status symbol. There’s always WWDC, I guess.
It's still very functional and no doubt very satisfying in performance with the lights out. You don't need to see everything to enjoy the experience. 😉

There’s basically 0% chance you could run a computer and display that size (and provide bus power to peripherals) using just 100w over USB-PD
Yeah. I have a 4K LG computer monitor with an external power brick and it doesn’t also need to run a whole computer. External power bricks are quite normal. In some ways I like them more than internal ones because at least they are easy to replace if they fail. If the PSU fails and it’s internal, it’s a pain to deal with (for monitors/AIO computers).

I've been waiting so long for this redesign that I don't know what to say now.

It is an evolution that I needed and in general terms I like it.

I like the colors, it's a nice reinterpretation of the 1998 iMac colors. Yellow is the one I would choose.

The white frames look a bit strange to me, and I also miss a more "traditional" version.

I understand that it has the chin because it has all the components there, but I would have left the logo there or at least put "iMac" written, it would not look so extremely heavy that area, which for me is the worst of the design, and not because it has it (in the end it is there by necessity), but because it looks like an empty hole and lost aesthetically, and if you at least put a logo there, it would be something better in my point of view.

I'm disappointed that it doesn't have Face ID. This team is the ideal to wear it. At least, surprisingly for me, because I would never have thought about it, they have put Touch ID on the keyboard, although I still have reservations about how they will have solved the security issue, even if it connects with the "Security Enclave" of the M1.

Conclusion. I'm looking forward to a 32" yellow iMac with Face ID. I guess I will have to wait at least 3 more years. 🤣

I'm not a fan either. I like the Red one but I wish it also red on the front. Not sure why Apple felt the need to put pink on the front. I guess the point is to make them a deep color on the back and soft color on the front.

YES. I HATE IT. I wish that the logo was the strong color and the rest of it matched the stand.

However:

A. I don't need or want an iMac, regardless.
B. If I did get one, I'd never see the back except to plug things in.
C. I'd probably get the silver one if I couldn't get past the color difference on the green one (love the front).

Why is everyone just targeting me right now. Is there a problem with me joining Apple 7 years ago?
Whether or not one considers 7 years in an ecosystem long or not, during those 7 years, Apple has only had a single iMac design until today. Maybe that plays into it.

(off topic: I remember the days when there was basically a new iPod nano design every iteration. It was exciting... not that they could do that with Macs or phones, but still, it was fun)

I actually really like the colors and the white frame, as others have said a very modern interpretation on the 1999 iMac color line. Black looks harsh and dated at this point. As for performance compared to a 4 year old i5 or 3 year old i3 in the previous $1299/$1499 models these will be a dramatic step up.

I have no idea what they were thinking when designing the front of this thing. Imagine how ridiculous that would look in an office setting.
Ridiculous in an office setting? Gimme a break, labs like the one below were state of the art in their time against all-black Dells etc, didn't hear any complaints then.

The white bezel would look elegant and sleek if it were not for the stupid chin. Jony Ive might be gone, but the legacy of absolute thinness is living on. Who cares if the damn thing is 11.5mm or 15mm? The concept of the floating screen with a white bezel is one of Apple's most iconic and beloved designs. We could have had a call back to this and it would have been great:

Instead, someone did some low effort photoshop scaling and gaussian blurring of a G3 iMac and thought it would be a cool throwback:

I guess get your iMac with all of these ridiculously stupid colors? Any mature adult would buy a computer in black or white, that is it. "Let's go to my VP boss's office where he has his orange iMac on his desk." Wow, gee, how professional.

Why is there an EVENT for a purple iPhone? Shouldn't that have been released in September or October? It seems like Apple used this to fluff an event that barely had anything worthwhile to show.

Apple then introduces an updated iPad with an M1 chip in it and says it has "all day battery life." Um, how about statistics? 14 hours of battery life? 24 hours of battery life? What is it? How about mini LED? Oh that's only in the 12.9" model, not the 11", sorry folks, you'll have to pay a minimum of $1,100 and carry around a huge iPad with you just to get the new screen technology.

The company is ran by a bunch of morons now.

It is not a no-brainer if you consider the materials used in the existing lightning charging cables.
Seriously? It's a good design decision because Apple's lightening cables are so rubbish that they'd break? It's somehow impossible to supply a longer cable that will survive mouse use (how did we survive in the days before wireless)? Apple couldn't contrive a design where the plug didn't rub on the desk? Hillarious.

2. if magic mouse has be a wired mouse for X amount of time, that's not really better than the magic mouse 1 where you just spend 1-2 minutes swapping out batteries to keep the 100% wireless experience. might as well swap batteries.
Wuh? You'd need it plugged in for one 2-3 hour period out of weeks of use - and you can still do that overnight if you're organised, but if it does run out in the middle of a job you wouldn't need to stop.

Because a days usage takes about 2 1/2 minutes to charge. That’s how.
...and, with a Logitech mouse, putting up with a wire for just a couple of hours gives you a full charge and you can forget about charging cables for weeks, rather than having the battery conk out and interrupt your work every day (...and that doesn't stop you charging it overnight or doing a quick top-up if you want to...) - its all advantages, no downside.

Its amazing the logical contortions some people will go to to try and defend lazy design...

I wonder if it Apple company policy to completely ignore the obvious, forums, tweets etc and customers in general when they only ever asked for a few simple things.

No freaking Chin.
No Bezels.
We don’t care if that means it can’t be 8mm thick.
There a lot more Apple customers in the normal world vs. the world of forums. Plus forums tend to be overly critical with selfish needs and wants so it's not in Apple's best interest to build their products based on what people on forums want. Many people HERE did ask for a redesign. Not gonna always get the cake you want and eat it too.

So.. your options are a plastic MacBook from over a decade ago for an iMac from the same period, and nothing since, from Apple.

Both very much consumer lines too.

Apple has not had a “pro” Mac in black or white this century. I believe there was a tower in black back in the 90s?

I think of Apple iMac like a 1970 Porsche it looks sporty but has a Volkswagen engine under the hood. It might look cool and fast until you drive it.
And yet with the exception of the 14 or 18 core iMac Pro when running specific software, this is the fastest iMac to date.

Not sure why people are hating on the colors and silver is still an option. I don’t understand the white bezels, I have a hunch we’re going to see some bezel black-out decal kits. The chin still exists so they can make it thin. Not sure I understand that either. Eliminate the chin, make the iMac 2X as thick and have room to integrate the power supply as well. It will still be the thinnest all-in-one on the market.

Really like the magnetic power cord with integrated Ethernet. Hope that makes it to the new laptops. I will probably still buy one or two of these systems to replace a couple of our older iMacs that are past their usable life. But will hold out to see if they offer a 10G Ethernet option like they have for the M1 Mini and maybe, hopefully, add a black bezel option.

I hate to break it to you, but "mature adults" don't judge other adults for the choice of colors they enjoy for their material possessions. We pick colors for our walls and furniture - why wouldn't the option of a color for a desktop computer be acceptable?

As for offices looking for conformity, they will always have the choice of silver.

And yes, the most valuable company in the world is clearly "ran by a bunch of morons." You've figured it out!

I actually like the colors... the chin and white bezels are a bit jarring, but I don’t hate it. (If the camera wasn’t so visible on white and if there wasn’t this thin black line between the screen and the white bezels, it’d probably be better). Going with a color gives me mild anxiety though; what if I want to change the color palette of my decor?

Anyhow, I think it’d be interesting if they went with this white+color aesthetic for “consumer” products, and the more classic silver/space grey/maybe gold for their “pro” lines.
