Yes, Power Mac. Wow, I put Mac Pro. I was thinking PowerMac... Bondi Blue was the G3, Graphite for the G4. The lime green one we had was a G4, but in retrospect I’m thinking the colored bits might have been an aftermarket panel kit. We also had a few Xserves at one point that were black. But we did that ourselves.
I'll go along with that because I've never seen a lime green PowerMac of any generation. I kept my Bondi Blue G3 for exactly 3 weeks. It was my first Mac so I never kept up on the Apple release schedules. I was a Windows guy for 3 years before that. Right after I bought my G3 Apple released the Graphite PowerMac G4. Luckily I found a "pigeon" on Craigslist and sold the G3 for nearly the same amount as the new G4. 😁

Fair argument regarding the colors. Not a big fan of bright, colorful offices though.

I'd rather just buy a Mac but I understand everyone has their preferences. Still doesn't answer why Apple touts "all day battery life" but then doesn't say how long the battery is supposed to last. Do the M1 iPads have better battery life than the non-M1 versions? Common says also says they should've put the mini-LED in the 11" models but hey, this is Apple and they'll try any way possible to get you to spend more money than you need to.

One of the few Apple product launches where I’ve been genuinely underwhelmed.
What did you want? Seriously, it's unbelievable how jaded people in this age can be. The iMacs are a huge leap ahead, the AirTags are basically what was rumored, the iPad Pros are a fantastic update, much-needed improvements to Apple TV...

Yet some people are still "underwhelmed". Whose fault is that really, Apple's or yours?

I don't understand why apple continues to have so many versions of a product

Why even sell a lower model? just have one

save $150 on the base model, but only comes in 4 colors, only has 2 ports, no Touch ID in the keyboard and the power supply doesn't have the ethernet port.

I can't help but be in complete awe of Apple's persistent policy of price gouging on relatively affordable NVMe storage option on these new tutti-frutti M1 iMacs. If you consider that the entry-level model already had a 256gb drive included, Apple is charging a whopping $400 more for an addition 750gb's on onboard (soldiered) storage (1tb total)....

I mean...these are probably Samsung's OEM drives that Apple procures in large volume - and are probably paying - at most - around $75.00 (wholesale) for the 1tb NVMe option. Apple's hauling in a tidy $300++ in pure profit for one of the very few pre-order upgrades that's even possible on these M1 iMacs. And this doesn't even take into account how much less the propietary SOC M1 chip cost Apple vs. a 10th gen. Intel i5.

AAPL will probably soon be flirting with the 3Trillion in valuation level with their humongous markups like this!

Not sure I could go to not having an extended keyboard on the desktop.
I’m more concerned about the shape. Flat keyboards are sort of OK for laptops but at least then you have a palm rest at the same height as the keyboard. This flat one looks less ergonomic than the old wedge shaped ones, but I admit I haven’t tried it.

in addition the cord is now a proprietary connector. Why? They have changed a industry standard for no additional convenience. :(
I assume the power supply is external for easier thermal management, but a common apple power connector also makes sense especially if they couldn’t get a >100W standard approved by the USB-IF.
Hope a 27-32 inch iMac will be launched in more subtle colors...and without the white bezel.
IMO it is the subtlety of the front colours that seems to be annoying most of the people who like the back colours. That said, it would be interesting if the pro branded versions had shiny cases.
Is anyone else bothered that the front colors don’t match the back colors? I love the blue and red from the back but not a fan of baby blue and pink on the front, maybe it’s just me?
I wouldn’t say “bothered” but it does seem like a suboptimal choice. OTOH, the bolder back colours are more likely to clash with people’s wallpapers etc., especially since with the illustrated wallpapers for these new macs I expect macos 12 to pick up more background colour in the gray areas.
Any mature adult would buy a computer in black or white, that is it. "Let's go to my VP boss's office where he has his orange iMac on his desk." Wow, gee, how professional.
Senior management are more likely to have colourful offices than junior staff. (Also, who has white monitors? Grey or black have been standard for ages, and before that it was mostly beige.)

still, you can have silver grey if you really want.

The tech may be a leap
forward, but I disagree w you about the design. I don’t think it’s jaded to be underwhelmed by the bezels, chin, etc. for a product that hasn’t been updated in many years.

This is what passes for "innovation" at Apple nowadays. 🤮
The Apple silicon chip is very innovative.

The AIO PC is a very mature technology.

Give me your best idea of what would had been “innovative” to satisfy your standard.

For me, it’s exactly what I was expecting and wanting (minus the goofy looking front). No surprises. I’m certain now that a more professional looking “pro” is on the horizon as well if your requirements above this model.

It's the art of the upsell. You get to list a lower price. That gets people interested and in the door (in non-covid times) and then you sell them the more expensive one. That and I'm sure there are people who are fine with fewer ports, and without ethernet and touch ID.

IIRC Apple‘s view of “full-day battery” with an iPad (WiFi only) equals a solid 10 hours since its inception, based on a defined set of activities and frame conditions.

Mini-LED is a new technology, so Apple probably wants to collect experience and drive the cost down, before extending it to a bigger number of devices. Besides, the 12.9 iPad customers are probably less price sensitive, so more probable to swallow the price hike.

Not sure why Apple felt the need to put pink on the front. I guess the point is to make them a deep color on the back and soft color on the front.
I haven't seen any comments yet pointing out the colour similarities with the AirPods Max and their two tone schemes. The choice to use two colours might be their attempt (like it or hate it) to share some updated design language across product lines.

Dark blue back and light blue stand/front very much resemble the blue headphones. Silver + white speaks for itself.
The dark pink / pink combo is pretty close too – although iMac's darker shade seems more "red", at least in the pictures.

Green is perhaps the biggest departure with the iMac having a darker shade – the light shade still being a close match to the headphones.

The white bezels are ... fine. Most iMacs historically have had white bezels and many iPads or phone models too. I don't think it is that outlandish. Many people have called out the missing logo on the front, which I agree seems to be the biggest "gap" here (if there was otherwise going to be a chin anyway.)

I do own two flat keyboards (non-Apple) and to me ergonomics are absolutely fine. Just because they are so flat, the height difference between keys and underlying surface becomes so small that it grows towards “negligible”. And if you should still miss a palm rest, you can get lots of various 3rd-party palm rests to put in front of the keyboard.

I also have become a big fan of TKL versions (ten-key-less), as I noticed that I never actually used the additional “ten keys” on the right and with TKL you can have keyboard and mouse closer together (due to the keyboard being significantly less wide), thus relieving shoulder joints and neck muscles, which is especially beneficial long-term.

Apple must have info on how many iMacs cracked screens due to being pulled off a desk by the power cord. Now that they can’t repair them easily at all they make sure they won’t get as many support cases.
