And the iPhone SE is an iPhone 5/5s, not an SE. What's your point again?
Form factor. Surely you can tell the difference between a SE/5/5s and a 6/7/8?

I'd prefer the XS-Max screen resolution to the XR.I don't think that a higer res screen is something that the target market for this phone cares about, as evidenced by the strong sales of the XR.
There are other things that are more important to potential buyers, like batterylife and price.
Whatever tariff is on the import price.I wonder how low cost it’ll be by the spring when the 30% tariffs have kicked in?
Then why do you refer to it only as the SE and not the 5/5s/SE? For the 4.7" iPhones you seem to go out of your way to always refer to the complete group to describe the form factor. It is almost as if the form factor is only one of the aspects and that other characteristics that are unique to the SE also define the appeal of the SE to you.Form factor. The same reasoning holds true for a 4“ phone. It‘d be a great phone (in the sense of being a phone), it‘d be a great music player, and a solid testing device. And it would sell. A lot more than the iPod touch.Simple. Because they had to. It's because of iOS 13. Apple doesn't care about the iPod touch anymore. Neither do they focus on it. But Apple doesn't want to fully discontinue it yet. It somehow still sells. I mean, it's a great music player for the car or for the gym or for the kids. Also it's the cheapest iOS device you can get and some iOS developers use it to test their apps (if they otherwise use an Android phone).
This is my takeaway from rumors over the last couple of months as well (there’s been previous rumors about an updated iPhone 8 in early 2020.It'll be a repackaged iPhone 8, which was pretty much what the SE was, a last gen design with some updated internals.
Not if they manage to fit those 4,7” screens into the chassis similar to iPhone 5, 5S and SE..
The size of the new model will be similar to the 4.7-inch iPhone 8 that was introduced in 2017, three sources said
The hardware side is only one aspect of this. There is also the question what percentage of software will (still) be designed to work decently on a 4" screen.2. I think there’s big enough a market for a „small“ iPhone - one that enough people would be willing to pay „more“ for than just entry-level pricing. Though if and when such a product might be released will remain a matter of speculation for the time being. I wouldn’t hold my breath for it (yet).
I think that there are many people who would pay a high price for an premium device. They aren't going to put any of the Face ID tech in a low cost phone.

I hope Apple makes another small phone for everyone who wants one. But as the article says... it'll probably be based on the iPhone 8... not the SE...
It's amazing how tiny the SE is compared to the rest of the family. I'm talking about physical size. It's very small. Apple hasn't crammed new internal components into a body that small in quite a while!

If they make a 5.5" or 4.7" without the huge bezels we would still get a pocket friendly phone suitable for 1 handed use.
I'm sure they have plenty of 4.7 and 5.5 screens laying around![]()

That your implied position that the SE was mainly bought because it was small is not correct. What’s your point?

Good idea! But I'm not sure Apple wants to keep making 16x9 screens... and make two new models for what is supposedly their lower-cost options.
I like it though.
My idea is to take the iPhone SE and call it "iPhone Classic" and keep it updated with a decent processor and compatible camera.
I think that's what people want... just update the damn SE!
My point has always been size + price. That your implied position that the SE was mainly bought because it was small is not correct.
