I wonder if/when Mac laptops & iMacs will get FaceID? Also, wonder if/when Apple wireless keyboards will get TouchID & TouchBar. TouchID might be tricky with the security implementation, but I would think TouchBar would be a bit easier. But who knows?

I really can’t wait for the next generation of iMacs. Mine is from 2010 and I really want a new 1, but it’s been 7 years that they’ve been using this design and I think it’s almost time for a refresh of the iMac itself and Magic Keyboard.

I think they’re more likely to have Face ID on it.

Face ID is the future... in display Touch ID is not going to happen. Apple just moved away from 3D Touch I don’t think they’re going to add more junk under the screen

VoiceID can be more secure than a faceID. You need to speak a minute authenticated sentence for unlocking the device.

Tap notifications on lockscreen, put finger on home button to go the the app. That’s touchID for you. It sucks.

with faceID, tap notifications on lockscreen and you’re going straight to the app. That’s the winner.

 didn’t get rid of 3D Touch because it is essentially a deep press that can be done without the additional sensor. You must be those guys that need more faceID sensor like 4 cut out screen from the top, bottom, left and right.

Funny Touch ID failed me way more then Face ID ever does. Wet fingers, dirt on fingers, gloves etc touch id has major flaws and has a long way to go. If both are on a future iPhone then everyone will be happy
It is not wise using your beloved iPhone with wet, dirty or oily finger. It is not also practical using your phone with gloves on.

I still rock an iPhone 7, so when I bought the 2018 iPad, I was satisfied with having a unified TouchID experience on both devices.

But in the back of my mind, I remember buying an iPad 3 with the 30-pin connector and seeing Apple come out with Lightning on the iPad 4 soon after.

As an old-timer on this forum, I remember a lot of new iPad 3 owners being more than a little pissed off.

So I’m glad to hear TouchID is sticking around, at least possibly on the low-end iPads.

So how do you use your phone? With face ID, you STILL have to "swipe" after you unlock it, with your wet fingers, dirt on fingers, gloves, etc..

Can you elaborate on that? Face ID is happening on the phone, just like Touch ID. How is it better for police state tracking?

Blind trust and believing 'What happens on your iPhone stays on your iPhone' is for fools.

TouchID is superior in basically every use case except when your hands are wet. My iPhone has touch, my iPad has face, and the latter is finicky as heck.

Wet hands aren't a problem for ultrasonic fingerprint scanners which Apple might also "invent" in the future

Police can open your phone by pointing it at your face whereas they would need a warrant to use your fingerprint.

Plus you have 10 possible fingerprints but only one face.

Apple have updated that statement.

"What happens on your iPhone gets transcribed and sent to an employee to read even if you deny us permission to use your Siri requests."

I don't care for one over the other. Using a passcode for secure purchases and device access.

What about Voice ID?

And if your voice becomes distorted due to a cold or changes due to other conditions, or the surrounding environment you're in, is to loud to recognize the users voice, then What? Resort to a alpha-numeric passcode every time? :D To many uncertain variables for ‘Voice ID’ to be successful.

This might be a dumb question, but what if it gets paired with a Windows computer? I can easily see someone who's elderly buying an Apple keyboard (not realising it's designed for Mac's only) for their Windows machine. How will Windows handle that?

iPhone x user here, deactivated face id, just using passcode.
So excited when touch id comes back, will be the next iPhone i will buy

In what parallel universe are you living, sir? In mine it is exactly the opposite.
FaceID needs correct angle. TouchID doesn't care. I can pay in a store and I don't need to be looking at the device nor holding it in any special way. Flat on the table same story. Regardless, TouchID for me. I'm not a fan of FaceID at all. Let alone the fact that stuff is shooting at your face. Anyway, thats me. You are the opposite. :)

These keyboards would cost $300+ so no one is just picking one up without knowing what it is and how to use it

I do like Touch ID and prefer it but if this and Face ID are both offered in the future then it will make everyone happy with more option to choose from.

I think having both would be great. In the car when mounted, and when on a bike with a helmet, Face ID is useless. The finger touch would be great. When fingers are wet/dirty, Face ID is better. A combination of the two would satisfy most users.

Oh please. We all know that everything Apple announces was always Plan A... even if it really wasn't.
Except there is zero evidence Face ID was plan B. Some people are saying that because I guess it makes them feel better or more hopeful that Touch ID wil be coming back. It’s wishcasting. Going through all the work of Face ID just because under screen finger print sensor wasn’t ready yet seems a bit much when Apple could have just kept Touch ID as is.

Touch ID needs dry hands and doesn’t work well for a lot of people depending on their skin (I’m one of those). Face ID doesn’t care.

Anyway, thats me. You are the opposite. :)

Perfectly fine, and if Apple offers both, it will be good for everyone. But some people here are pretending Touch ID is objectively better, which is just not true. I’d say the majority of people prefer Face ID, and it is a more advanced technology that allows more features (like attention detection).

Apple are the only company that hasn't figured out how to put a fingerprint reader under the screen.

Or decided they don’t want it or it’s not good enough. You really think Apple can’t figure something that other companies can? Everyone can figure out everything, it’s all based on known technological advancements, it’s just price, business strategy and design requirements.
