You mean in the one hour, tightly controlled Apple demos with hand picked media? Yes, I'm sure those "hands on" reviews are totally reliable and not biased at all.

People who want to pick fault always say this BUT Apple is usually conservative when it comes to stuff like this, after all if they built it up to be something it wasn’t people would complain and they wouldn’t be trusted in future. The same was said about the AirPods, iPhone, iPad Apple Watch and so on and they are all amazing products, I have no reason to doubt Apple one bit here, BUT just in case remember EVERYONE that has ordered the HomePod or indeed any Apple product has 14 days to return if they don’t like it.

Anyway, why is it not out in Canada yet? Surely if Siri can understand english it should not have an issue with a little word like „aboooooot“

There is also french in Canada (I'm french speaking). That's why/

I’m not buying until the stereo is available. And by then it will be probably hardware rev B.

They missed the holiday season already, so why release an half baked speaker?

So? those who want Sonos can buy them, however the HomePod is said to sound better (from the early hands on) plus this is an Apple speaker.

Yes, a bunch of reviewers/uh, er, demo-ers that survive on the hand that feeds.

Just wait until you open your new apple speaker, hook it up and fire up the first song. It's not going to sound goooooood! I'm surprised apple hasn't released how long to play it until the driver/woofer really starts to 'open up'.

And you know this how? How much hands on time have you had with the HomePod?

HomePod announcement: "Meh"
HomePod release: "Yeah, I'll get a couple, might be cool"
HomePod delay: "WHHHHHHAAAA?! Nooo!"

Edit: Ahh, I thought existing orders were delayed. I should learn how to read. Still getting mine on Friday. And relax...

Ok, ok, I finally put my order in just now. When I checked last night, they were still available for local pick up, but this morning the web site shows no pick up available anywhere in the major metro area were I live. Still available for direct home delivery on Friday though.

In unrelated news, I saw an Apple mapping van driving through my suburb yesterday for the first time. White van, with a bunch of nerd stuff on the roof and a label on the door that said "Apple Maps".
Sorry, not sure where to post this sort of thing if there are folks who care.

You could not buy 1 million tin cans for $349, but you can outfit your house with the real winner, which is the Echo.

Why should I pay to plant NSA microphones in my house? If they want to bug me, they should do it for free!

The HomePod with be Apple's biggest flop. Total bummer.

No way it’s a bigger flop than the Pippin.

HomePod won’t flop. I don’t think it’s going to be a huge hit, but it will sell. There are enough Apple Music subscribers and loyal fans to ensure sales.

My question is, why? I know Apple wants to be a consumer electronic company, not just a computer company, not just a phone company. I’d have no issue with them getting into other markets, like speakers, IF there weren’t problems with their core products. Right now those problems are still somewhat minor, but each iOS release is buggier than the previous one and overall MacOS and the Mac in general are languishing.

I’m not sure getting into the speaker business again (remember, they’ve already tried this with iPod HiFi) is the best move right now, especially when the product they are bringing to market doesn’t offer any discernible advantage over the competition. In that sense, this is perhaps the most boring Apple product launch ever.

Does anyone use Apple Maps? Another waste of Apple resources. Years later it’s still not on par with Google Maps. Pretty embarrassing. There’s no reason Apple needs to reinvent the wheel here. They haven’t improved the map/navigation experience at all over Google. They are just wasting resources on a me-too service, and for what?

I use it. It does what I need it for. The fact that it works well and easily with the hardware (i.e. tapping my wrist to turn) is a real benefit over other options.

My guess is for their autonomous car project. They probably want their own map data that they can tune to fit their own needs.

You can get 2 Sonos speakers for the same price.
You can get 319 boxes of tissues at the pound shop, which is not very far from the Apple Store in my shopping centre. That's enough to blow your nose 31,900 times.

I have [bought Sonos speakers], they sound fantastic. And they cost £300 for a pair.
I trust you even less than the HomePod reviews.

This x1000. Apple is well aware of the scrutiny they get. The last thing they’d do is rig the tests to make the HomePod sound better (or the others sound worse). It would backfire spectacularly.

It will play stereo right now.

A very expensive option if you want to add wireless streaming to an existing hifi system - as is Sonos, for that matter. I've got an Apple Airport Express which has proved a much better option - although I doubt this will be upgraded for Apple Airplay 2.

I'm taking a wait and see on the HomePod. I know Apple will sell a fair number. I am going move into some home automation this year and, a that time, I decide whether the HomePod fits in. I have a nice Sonos speaker that is more than adequate.
BTW, I think the hilarious Alexa Super Bowl commercial showed how Amazon has achieved the same kind of iconic status with Alexa that Apple attained with the iPod.

Agreed, but still don’t see the point I guess. I certainly wouldn’t want to ride in an autonomous vehicle that relied on Apple maps to navigate. One of the few things that has made me consider switching to Android is the fact that Apple does not let iPhone users select a default mapping application.

Any idea when we might start getting proper reviews? Not just the quick preview thing.
Reviews are normally embargoed until a few days before the product is released.

Usually more in-depth detailed reviews Will surface over the weekend and early next week. But I always look forward to user reviews over critic reviews. User reviews are much more in depth in my opinion.
