I love every time Jon Prosser is mentioned now, its quickly followed up with a note on his mixed credibility :D
lol you make your bed, you lie in it. Digitimes had to bear that cross for many years but they’ve been more reliable as of late, I think they may have finally shaken that poor reputation.

If he gets a good streak going all will be forgotten. The leaker game is one of “what have you done for me lately”.

Apple's upcoming iPhone-centric event could perhaps be held on Tuesday, October 13, according to information shared with MacRumors by an employee at a UK cellular carrier.

DelayediPhoneCalendarFeature.jpg

There's no way for us to confirm the dates at this point in time nor are we sure on the credibility of the source, but even without a rumor, Tuesday, October 13 is a good guess based on Apple's historic launch timelines, preference for Tuesday launches, and penchant for holding events during the second week of the month.

The employee claimed that Apple would accept pre-orders directly after the event and launch the new iPhones on October 16, but that would be an unusually short time between the event and the launch date. It's quite possible that the source is confusing the pre-order and launch date timelines, with pre-orders actually set to happen on the 16th. If that's the case, a launch would logically follow on October 23, and that's what other sources have suggested.

The October 13 date has also been shared by AppleInsider in a report sourcing information from a Dutch mobile operator, and Jon Prosser, a leaker with a mixed track record when it comes to Apple's plans, also claims the event will take place on October 13 followed by pre-orders on the 16th and a launch on the 23rd.

If there is an October 13 event followed by an October 23 launch, we may not see all of the new iPhone 12 models at the same time. Rumors have suggested that we should expect a staggered launch with some iPhone models coming out in October and others coming out at a later date, perhaps in November.

It's likely that the 5.4 and 6.1-inch low-cost iPhones will be available first in October, followed by the Pro models at a later date due to supply and production constraints. There's some confusion over this point, however, as DigiTimes has suggested Apple could release the two 6.1-inch iPhone models (one low-cost and one Pro) ahead of the 5.4-inch iPhone 12 "mini," as it is rumored to be called, and the 6.7-inch iPhone 12 Pro Max.

With the prospective October 13 date less than three weeks away, we could be seeing event information and invites from Apple within the next week or so.

It's worth noting that Amazon's Prime Day is rumored to be on Tuesday, October 13, which would be a notable conflict, so there's still a possibility that the October 13 Apple event date is inaccurate.

I got nothing 😂

I think I once posted iphone 12, iPhone 12 Max, iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone 12 Pro Max, but then someone pointed out it would be confusing for the 12 Max to be the same screen size as the (non-Max) 12 Pro.

Anyway, the 5.4” will be even smaller in (physical) size than the SE. So that tracks with the mini naming.

It’ll be interesting to see what Apple comes up with, maybe someone here already nailed it!!

Haha, well, it seemed to me that the 12, 12max, 12pro, 12promax made sense.

It does seem also to make as much sense to call the 6.1" just the 12, since the 11 was also 6.1".

12Pro, and 12Pro Max sounds good too.

This 5.4" now seems more like a special edition iPhone: maybe it should be called th-!!!.... wait... no, that won't work. 😏

iPhone Mini is as good as anything. It's as good as calling it iPhone Air (which was my guess). iPhone Classic?

But I swear, if Apple puts that rumored "B" chip in the mini to save battery life at the expense of processing power, I'm going to rage-quit throw something.

I’m straight up not getting the mini if it doesn’t get an identical A14 that the others are getting.

I honestly don’t know how much processing power I’d need out of a phone that tiny. My SE2 is too small to do much more than very basic functions. It’s a fantastic pocketable phone. But the battery life is only adequate...for basic work during the day. I’ve got an 11Pro for when normal life resumes and I can once again travel and want more of a pocket computer and little entertainment center.

Take my money! I want that iPhone12mini!

Ya that's direction I was leaning as well but with the pandemic I'm mostly at home anyway so probably not as much of a benefit to carry something smaller then my current X, or 5G being on wifi most of the time.

I might just hold off till next year in hopes the notches go away on the next models.

Yeah it might just be an automatic 6.1" purchase (darn it!) or an SE purchase (darn it!)

i wouldn't be crazy happy about either one of those choices.

Well, yeah, if the comparison is between a Pro that is sold as a product for a "professional" that does 4K video editing and professional photography, and between the "small phone" that would just do "basic work" (phone calls, text, safari, taking pictures, viewing pictures, Instagram, etc.), then no the small phone wouldn't "need" a lot of processing power for that.

it's not the upper level processing power that I would really hate not having, it's knowing that I got a gimped processor that would (I'm assuming) have more stutters, slower app opening, just everything slower.

i don't have to be a "professional" to appreciate everything opening quicker.

I also don't want a slap in the face from Apple telling me that I have to get a gimped processor to have a small phone (and what's not to say that this gimped processor can't handle next year's iOS very well, or the year after that?)

Also, I get that smaller battery means less runtime because of "physics", but the 12mini has a rumored ~2200mAh battery (~400mAh more than SE), so even with an A13 it should have more life than the SE. And, the A14 should have even more efficiency over the A13, so the assumption that it will have better battery life is a safe one.

basically though, I don't want to feel like a chump for getting a small phone. There are many, many people that have been waiting for this day: a flagship feature phone in a iPhone 5 (ish) size.

A so called gimped A14 would likely still be as fast as A13 and probably faster, but with more features, and likely more efficient.

Personally, I think it's not really something you should worry about, unless it's really gimped like it's missing an entire performance core or something, but Apple isn't going to do that.

If it's mainly just a down clocked A14, I'd have no problem with it myself. The reasons I personally wouldn't get a mini includes the size, and the lesser camera setup, and possibly less complete 5G support. A slower SoC probably wouldn't even make the top five.

Sure, just as long as they name it something cool like A14X, then I'll feel stellar about it. /Sarcasm

I appreciate your optimism :D I'm sure I would moan about it for maybe a week, and then appreciate the long battery life and come to discover that I REALLY really needed a decent battery.

Cheers :D haha

(I still don't want a gimped chip though🧐)

That's what i was thinking about: downclocking, if they do anything.

lol.maybe its the joy of seeing one.
Lol for me that’s what it is. I own an 11 Pro and still, when I am in between loads of laundry and want a fun distraction I like pulling up photos of the iPhone 11’s and looking at the fun colors. I used to have an XR and missed being able to choose a phone from a bright cheery color pallet.

I also think smart phones in general are fun. I’m in my 50’s, so I went through the wonder of having an actual computer on my desktop at a time it was a new thing for everyone. As a child watching Electra Woman and Dynagirl, I grew up dreaming of having a computer I could hold in my hand or wear on my wrist. I’ll never lose the awe I felt when my dream was first realized when my husband handed over his pocket PC for me to keep. The first time I sent an actual email from a handheld device just blew my mind. Seeing an internet browser on my Hitachi G1000 was awesome Getting my first Apple Watch was like reliving my childhood playacting as Electra Woman. I’ll always be a kid at Christmas when new tech gadgets get released. Even for the ones I don’t buy, which is actually most of them.
