I could see apple bring back Touch ID with the high end phones as a feature.
A15 bionic
6gb ram
128gb, 512gb, 1tb storage
Space grey, silver, gold, fire truck red
If Apple had any courage, they would bring back the headphone jack to the Pro models with a high end DAC chip to drive your headphones. This would be a genuine ‘Pro’ feature in my opinion. The Pro Max model in particular would have enough room to accommodate said jack. Of course it will never happen as then no one would buy the Airpods pro/max.Will they bring Touch ID back before or after they bring back headphone jacks? 😅

Why not? They’re still making new hardware with TouchID right now, the new iPad Air has it in the power button, the newest SE still uses it, and that’s not even getting into the reader on every laptop now. Why wouldnt they bring it back to the normal phone if they have a good solution that lets them keep the large display, either adopting the iPad Air’s new reader ot an under-screen reader as mentioned here? Especially given COV19 and mask use neutering FaceIDStop trying to make TouchID happen
(Btw, I'd love it return but it's not going to)
You think there are still phones in 5 years? I envision something like universal communication devices like in the expanse with 6G worldwide coverage or one level down something like Apple glasses or contact lenses. If there are still phones, I will still use my 12mini. Only way to upgrade to the next mini would be touch ID or a retina scan because masks are here to stay. You can wait another 5 years for all of that.
Unfortunately, a lot of people are highly addicted to their phone (and social media). They can't seem to do anything without pulling out their phone.Let’s face it this is coming not just due to the pandemic. This has been in development for years. I also don’t get the whole mask thing I mean where are people going where they need to use their phone when they have their mask on? Shops? Walking in the street?

Yes they can via passcode. As long as folks are wearing masks in stores and Apple's using FaceID only, people can't use ApplePay for purchases. I bet they're wishing they'd put fingerprint in earlier.
As soon as Touch is available on the mini, I am ready to upgrade
No Touch, no upgrade until my SE2020 dies
Where do you live? On Mars? A few weeks? This is going on for a year? Common sense and care for everyone around you made you where a mask? You do not need a mandate for that? Nobody mandates that you have to wear a parachute before you step off a plane, you just do! Shooting virus everywhere without care or mind in public is the same then shooting bullets in a supermarket, even if you do not hit anyone, you will be put down and rightly so.I don’t think it has been coming for years, rumours aren’t always true.
I’m not sure I’ve only had to wear a mask for a couple of weeks thankfully. It is a bit of a pain in the supermarket when my phone keeps locking and I have to type the code in to to see the shopping list.
I would rephrase that slightly. Apple doesn't design iPhones such that they should (or have to) be put into a case but such that they can easily be put into a case (and most cases don't give direct access to the buttons by way of having 'button extenders'). Of course, until the latest iPad Air, iPad design was equally well suited for cases as iPhone design was. So I am not sure what special affordances Apple has made in its iPhone design until now to accommodate cases beyond not adding a fingerprint sensor to the power button or the back.I think the problem is Apple basically designed iPhones to be put in a case, they expect everything except for the screen and cameras to be completely covered. A fingerprint sensor on the side button would be a major inconvenience to making cases.
Nah, we can thank Tim Cook for making it possible to easily identify people that fall into the category of "a person who pays such attention to detail that it becomes an obsession and may be an annoyance to others" by their over-the-top complaints about the notch. No way APPLE IS GOING TO IMPLEMENT OPTICAL-CAPACITIVE TOUCHID SENSOR on iPhone 13 or iPhone 20.
Every year, you will be buying a new iPhone with notch screen from 2017 until 2037.
You can thank Tim Cook for such an abysmal leadership prior to launching iPhone X at the 10th anniversary of iPhone.
That depends on whether your occupation allows you to largely work from home or not. If you can work from home, FaceID is very far from useless. And even if you cannot work from home, not all your waking hours will be taken up by work (and a public transport commute plus grocery shopping).Face ID sucks when wearing a mask. It would be much easier to have both features. I think Apple shot itself on the foot since the pandemic made Face ID useless.
I do the same. It is just difficult to enforce a mandate to hold your breath while you pull down your mask (though even if people don't hold their breath, if the mask removal is limited to situations where you keep a good distance to others, the risk increase is minimal).I just momentarily hold my breath and lower my mask to validate. Not a big deal for me.
I don't know how one would end up with the iPhone lock code being the same as the AppleID password. My AppleID password predates the existence of iPhones by several years by virtue of starting out as my iTunes Store account password (and yes, I have changed it over the years to a more complex one). When I got my first iPhone, the passcode was something to choose during setup, not something inherited from the AppleID account. Maybe if one mistook the prompt to select an iPhone passcode as a prompt to enter one's AppleID password, one could end up with both being the same. For those with 4 or 6 PINS on their iPhone, I am curious if they realize that their PIN number is also their APPLE ID Password. Anyone who sees them typing their PIN and gets access to their phone - or stealing it - can easily change their Apple ID password.
Settings -> User Name -> Password and Security -> Change Password.
Apple sells customer experience and unfortunately on planet earth of 2020-2021 and probably 2022 face ID isn't good customer experience. Everything some Apple fans describe (like typing pins etc) contradicts the reason of why some of us choose Apple devices. I don't even want to think about some professions where we are required to wear a mask, or Asian countries where a mask was a thing anyway.
