Apple's iPhone 5 Media Event Reportedly Scheduled for October 4

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; CPU iPhone OS 5_0 like Mac OS X) AppleWebKit/534.46 (KHTML, like Gecko) Mobile/9A5313e)

I just hope i5 is a 'world device' and do directly from Apple, so one buys it and then the 3 US carriers then compete to earn your business. I will gladly pay my last ETF to be in that position.

If it turns out the iPhone 5 hardware is no big deal, but instead we waited 3 extra months only to polish iOS 5, it will kinda suck.

Crossing my fingers...

This is like that time a couple years back when we were waiting for the new MacBook Pros for weeks and weeks. "Rumor has it they'll be released this Tuesday!"

Seemed to go one forever.

Just bring it on!!!!!

I hope AT&T is kind to us original iPhone4 customers and gives us an early upgrade path like they've done in the past. Can't wait! :D

I bought the iPhone 4 on launch day and I've had early upgrade eligibility since April. I figured the competition with Verizon forced their hand.

I'm going to put my money on an actual redesigned iPhone 5. I think (via an article from thisismynext) that the top guys at Apple weren't too pleased with the iPhone 4 leak and the whole antenna issue. They are ready for a redesign. P

I also think (via an article on thisismynext) that the reason why we are seeing the so called iPhone 4s is because they are testing these devices in a iPhone 4 shell. Yeah, maybe the screen is a bit bigger, but no one would notice.

The components would easily fit since the iPhone 5 is apparently thinner and that would explain these leaked photos of the A5 chip in in an iPhone 4 like shell. Remember the story about this recent theft of the iPhone 4s/5, if they were testing these devices in the newly designed shell, it would have been leaked. I'm guessing that the individual that came across that device simply thought it was an iPhone 4. iPhone 5 testing units with the new design probably aren't allowed to leave the Apple campus.
Predictions:
1) iPhone 5 that has a slightly bigger screen, tapered design with an elongated home button.
2) iPhone 4 becomes the budget model.

Wish the new devices and software were ready for immediate release upon announcement. Since the rumor mill seems to be robbing the surprise factor regarding product content, perhaps the availability schedule can become the new secret.

Curious since the Moscone Center is booked by Oracle from October 3 through the 6, while the last week of September is wide open.
Apple only uses Moscone for WWDC; it wouldn't be held there.

Other media events are held at Yerba Buena Theatre or at the town hall facility on the Apple campus in Cupertino.

Anybody else see a pattern here? The event is always a few weeks away, you know like tomorrow which never comes. Really what have they got to show? A minor update to the nano a minor update to the touch and a minor update to the iPhone 4. The iPhone 5 is, I suspect not ready to ship and Tim Cooke is having a major case of stage fright. This could be the first event to be booed.
Trust me, there will be no booing.

Apple hand selects every invitee. It's a media event, not a public event. Apple's PR team (and probably senior management team) knows each one of these invitees by sight.

Anyone spotted booing will never see another media invitation again. Ever.

I'm a little disappointed in how it looks. Aside from the giant number 5 on the screen it looks just like the iPhone 4.

Are you just being sarcastic or do you really not see that it's just an altered image that just has an iphone 4 pasted on his hand?

I hope its worth the wait. Life has been a tad frustrating with my old brick 3G.

We more than feel your pain. My wife and I are on Original iPhone 2G models. Besides slowness we are limited to iOS 3 and many apps require iOS 4 so we can't install them.

Looks like Christmas is coming early this year!

i dont get it.. why they resetting the backups of iCloud this week and the rumor is GM this week or next week.. seems too early if this October 4 date is true for both to be happening?

Is this what MacRumors has come to ?

Can people no longer identify when a poster is being jokingly irreverent without them seemingly forced into using a ;) at the end of their post ? ;)

Indeed, read this on a few sites, and MacRumors didn't have it then,
getting a bit slow lately.

Yeah, lately people have been posting new rumors in the iPhone General section hours before MacRumors catch up, very slow indeed, 2 hours slow this time

I tip my hat to you sir. Had to upgrade my wife's 2G last xmas.
Nice job with having it used so long.

Well, some or perhaps all of those rumors are false.

Remember, 98% of the rumors on tech media sites end up being false.

If one believes them all, one will end up confused (like you) and bitterly disappointed because Apple didn't ship a quad-core 4.5" iPhone with 2GB RAM, 512GB NAND flash and a 20MP camera that offers two weeks of talk time on one charge, cooks you breakfast and costs $19.
