15" MacBook Pro 4.1 ,MATT SCREEN !!!! /iPad/ATV1/ATV2 would love an iMac but need a MATT SCREEN!!!!

Off topic, but who is Matt and what does he have to do with the screen on your Apple computers?

Back on topic- who cares what the phone is actually called in all of these reports? Unless the reports offer up specifics on the phone being released, the name is just semantics.

Regardless of what they released and when, people will go out and buy them in droves. Only tech pundits and nerds will care whether the phone still looks like the iPhone 4 or not.

To the huge, huge group of that is still rockin the 3G and the 3GS..I'm sure you will be blown away by the iPhone 5, and not be disappointed whatsoever

So one thing I did not catch before with this rumor is that the phone is not expected to be available for a few weeks after the announcement. Blah. Why would they do that?

I'm curious what this means for the annual October laptop keynote. Having an iPhone event in October should mix things up.

Why set yourself up for assured disappointment? I think we all know what this phone will have -- faster proc, maybe slightly better camera, perhaps wider screen, but at same resolution as iPhone 4. Not a bad upgrade, but not the steroid laced model you have built up in your mind.

You got that right Chupa, and don't forget the Very possible nuance integration only to work with the new A5 chip. So Apple like.

It's possible. Heck, they might not have an event at all. What better way to control costs than to skip the event and just send out a press release with some videos posted on the site.

They could send it as early as 10am Cupe time today. Post the videos overnight tonight. iPods shipping to stores by Friday. iOS 5 and iCloud launching next week. iPhones a week from Friday, no reservations, no preorders just like the iPad 2 (hope not, that was a total mess)

Just because they had events before doesn't mean that Cook's Apple has to keep that up. And they might not

You're right. With Cook at the helm, there's no telling what he'll do.

It'll be interesting to see if he follows the mold of Apple past or has his own signature element of surprise.

The iPhone 5 is, I suspect not ready to ship

Because they choose to mix things up, not due to some defect or other FUD.

and Tim Cooke is having a major case of stage fright.

Unlikely. And even if he id, they would just have someone else do the announcement. Phil, Scott or heck even Steve.

This could be the first event to be booed.

Maybe by you and the other 'I could do better' technosnobs. But while you are booing, folks will line up for this phone and yet again it will sell millions

Most probably to build a bustin' boat load of inventory and fill supply chain.

If SJ makes an appearance, it'll just be a cameo. But I doubt he'll be there at all. Now that's he's passed the reins to Cook, Apple doesn't want to give the impression that they can't pull off a great keynote without SJ.

I think he'll be there, but as a partner. Presenting one small thing, not the whole gig. Maybe even not in person. FaceTime him in or something perhaps.

The update

I noticed an update was added about Jim's Yep.

Interesting that he doesn't clarify what part the yep relates to. Is it that they are holding an event that day, is it that they will announce the iPhone that day, or simply confirming that that is they day everyone expects somethin to happen

Really wish the guy would either be less vague or just keep his mouth shut

----------

So... Apple has the event scheduled, and told them to not show it on their page... but they might have given it away.

Or Apple is sick of this kind of leak and is having the event on site at their own Town Hall

I think SJ should be there just to say a few words of Thanks and publicly pass the baton on to Cook.

Kinda weird, but somehow SJ's "spirit" will continue live on in all iPhones.
It was his baby. Thanks Steve! ;)

No one imagined that he would present the iPad 2, pre iPad 2 there was a great deal of ridicule of people who thought Steve would present the iPad 2 but he did, of course that was 6 months ago and his health may well have declined since then but keynotes are a Steve thing so if he takes no part in it then even I will admit he is at death's door

Another surprise appearance by Steve would be nice, if his health permits.

Here's the funny thing... the YBCA calendar for the 3rd specifically says "There are no programs on Mon, October 3, 2011. The next day with upcoming programs is Tue, October 4, 2011." But you go to the 4th, and there are no events different to what was shown on the 3rd!

So... Apple has the event scheduled, and told them to not show it on their page... but they might have given it away.

I read it here I think that they have an agreement with Apple to not show the booking on the website even though Apple has booked it. ;)

With Tim leading the team now, anything is possible. However, even though a slightly spec-bumped phone (no redesign) could be introduced via a press release and photos/videos on the website, I do not think they would do this for a largely updated phone as it is a great chance to get publicity heading into the launch. Likewise, iCloud is going to have a huge impact, not just on iDevices, but for Macs. They will definitely want to demo it for people at a media event to control the message. There will be a lotta ins, a lotta outs, a lotta what-have-yous to go over.

Maybe we'll see Steve, but only via Facetime.
