Processing Items...

ordered 64gb CDMA Black/Slate at 12:24am Pacific from Apple's site (would have been earlier, but was switching carriers and couldn't dig up current account # in my half-sleep). Anyway, my order status is still 'processing items' with no ship date. Anyone else? I would assume the 64gbs to last a little longer than this.

This might be wishful thinking...
But there might be a slim chance that Apple is overestimating the delivery time to be conservative and will end up revising alot of us in the "ships in two weeks" window so we get it sooner. That would be a pleasant surprise :) instead of getting delayed

I am guessing that Apple had a set number of orders they are certain they can get delivered on the 21st. After that number of orders were taken, the shipping probably dropped back a week even though there is still a decent chance that the order can be delivered by the 21st. Customers might be upset at the initial week or two wait that turns into on time or a day or two wait as opposed to getting an estimate for the 21st and having it delayed a week at the last minute.

I have seen plenty of iPhone 4/4S owners who were disappointed by the iPhone 5. I haven't seen too many people making predictions the thing wouldn't sell like hotcakes though. In fact, I haven't seen anyone making a prediction like that. I think we all knew the sales would be spectacular for the new iPhone, they always are, and Apple is always breaking new records with each new launch.

I currently have an iPhone 4 and when the 4s was released I was not at all impressed with it. The jump from a 4 to a 5 is a much more worthwhile investment to me. I think being impressed has a lot to do with the current phone you have. As for sales, with more and more countries being included at release the numbers will certainly continue to go up.

I am trying to order on the AT&T page through my iPad. I get to the point where it lets me select the phone I want. A box pops up with some info and a continue button at the bottom. When I press the button, it goes back to th e screen where I select a phone. What is the deal with this?

I understand this. But you can't preorder in store?

I've never heard of that but I imagine they will still help you out, even it's just them going to the Apple/AT&T website and doing the process for you.

I'm not sure, I placed my order at 7:30a.m. EST on the AT&T Premier site and it went thru without any issues. It also said the phone should arrive by 9/21.

I preordered with AT&T after seeing ship time fall to two weeks.

Now I regret it. Who knows what AT&T's inventory looks like? It says "as soon as Sept 21" but no real time frame given. I wish I had just ordered with Apple and waited.

What a cluster-f the ATT site was. Tried to order until 4:30 AM EST with no luck. Web pages would not load properly.

Ordered at 7:45. Still said I might get on 9/21.

AT&T still has inventory as of 6:30am EST, but as you're going through the process they give you an option of either taking the $20 unlimited text plan, or if you have an older plan, the default is pay-per-message. They don't give you an option to continue with your grandfathered text message plan. If you check out through Apple, it's there. Tricksy tricksy, AT&T...

I'll wait the extra week or two and keep my plan as is, thankyouverymuch.

I didn't get that at 7am ET. It showed my unlimited data plan at $30/month though.

Nothing I can find about buying one unlocked for us jet-setters. With the nano-sim differences (which I haven't seen much discussion on), I'll be better off sicking with the unlocked 4S.

EDIT: TechCrunch reported that unlocked pricing for the iPhone 5 was going to be $649 (16GB), $749 (32GB), and $849 (64GB) but that the unlocked phones would not be available until several weeks after the launch.

And everyone said I was dumb for waking up at 3am! I'm glad I did! Only took 10 min using the Apple Store iPhone app.

This is why I never pre-order. I've seen it before, the store opens with stock on hand, then the pre-orders slip in shipping and you could have gotten it in-store quicker. It might work for some, but I've been around this block too many times.

I just ordered through AT&T. It says it will be delivered on the 21st so hopefully that will actually happen. It was surprisingly easy this time around.

The iPhone 5 is a disappointment they said....

Not many people will want it they said....

The iPhone 5 is not targeted at enthusiasts who want the latest technology. Apple left that market long ago, while still giving lip service to anyone who would listen.

Apples now like Walmart, it's about selling to the average Joe en masse.

Despite the hype, it's just a mass market phone.

ordered through verizon.com 2:01CST my biologic clock woke me up at 1:59 :D the process was painless took me like 5 min to place the order and I got my confirmation email at 2:09 :)

I received an email from Best Buy with the subject line: "Preorder iPhone 5 in store today, with availability on September 21".

Sounds like there is another option outside of Apple and the carriers.

How about the guy telling everyone to wait until 6am or 7am and the site traffic would be lower. Glad I didn't take that advice. Two phones secured at 3:25am!

Not sure of you're talking about me? I mentioned that I was considering about taking my chances with 6 am but I never told anyone else to do the same or that doing so would be 100% safe. Someone who said you'd be safe anytime within the first day and I actually disagreed. I speculated that 6 am would "probably" be okay based on previous releases (the iPad 3 took half a day to slip to 2 weeks) but don't count on it. In any case, I was nervous about "sleeping in" till 6 so I got up at 4 am after all (12 am Pacific) and placed me order. Very glad I did!!!!!!! :D 32GB Black Unlocked.

That was quick. But more importantly to me, is iPod Touch not coming until October? :(

I know you're trolling but to be serious it has the new Qualcomm LTE chip and the (rumored) the A15 chip, as well as the latest in-cell LCD. If I'm not mistaken none of these technologies made it to a mass volume product(in-cell LCD has been used in one Sony phone I believe but nowhere close to the iPhone in volume) and iPhone 5 is the first one to have these "latest technology", not to mention the unibody that's not just a shell.

How? The site isn't letting me. What's the deal with the premier site?

Not sure. I just went through their regular wireless site.

Of course they're trolling. All phones are made for a mass market. What kind of stupid argument is that? If you make a product you want as many people as possible to buy it.

Lets be absolutely honest here, it would have been pretty shocking if it didn't sell out that quick.

Easy to say in hindsight. Based on the information we had BEFORE 12 am Pacific time it is shocking. No other pre-order has ever sold out anywhere near that fast before... not even close. In the past it's been more like 24 hours.
