People are going completely nuts for the all new iPhone. Mega bucks!!! Give Tim and the rest of the executive suite a huge raise!

Seriously, not really. Apple shorted the supply chain. Makes it look like they are worth more than they are.

High demand, of course, but I suspect we are also seeing the effect of significantly smaller supplies this year. The 4S must have been much easier to make in bulk because of similarity to the 4. The 5 with all the new manufacturing techniques and components must be in shorter supply.

I'm getting it, but as always I will wait for real hands on reviews and real world reports. If that means when I order in late September that I don't get it for three weeks, that is okay with me. My 4 is working just fine. And anyway I'd like to see how my 4 runs with iOS 6 for a bit as well.

Just order a couple in the Business Premier Store for work and they still showed arrival dates of the 21st.
did you call or go through the site? when i try to go through the site i dont see the iphone and i am eligible for an upgrade

Holy mothereffing cow. Wow. So either this is the biggest launch yet or the phone was in extremely low supply initially. Glad I got my orders in before this. Just amazing.

What? You haven't even seen the numbers yet. They might not even give numbers. It's a marketing game folks!

I'm sorry, but this is a nonsense assumption.

Not any more nonsense than thinking they didn't do that? What do you know?

No Apple does not intentionally constrain supply chain. There is just a limit to how many brand new complicated devices can be made every day.

No their not. Apple short supplied their chain just like normal. It's not that they couldn't make enough, it's that they didn't in order to look hotter than they are. Gees folks, get a clue already!

I remember people remarking that since the 3rd gen iPad was in good supply when it was released, that people must've lost interest in buying iPads. And look how that turned out :)

Has there ever been evidence that Apple has intentionally held off selling their most profitable products to build hype for them? They've often posted numbers like how many they sell in the first day or weekend or whatever. Wouldn't doing something like this be counter to that?

I would love if apple released actually amount of day 1 preorders, and % out what phones/memory sizes.

Not gonna let that go are ya? Repetition doesn't make it fact.

Why don't you take a break and wait and see what the initial pre-sales numbers are? Might save you a bit of egg on your face if you're wrong.

where does it say that? on your order confirmation page?

right under the items that are to be shipped .... and its on the "Thank you for your order" email.... the one that is still being processed almost 6 hours later.... why do you ask?

so for those of us who were fortunate to get our orders in early, when can we expect shipping notices would you say?

I would love to be one of the few that get it early when they slip thru FedEx like we have seen in previous releases!!

My "order processed" email received at 3:53am also states 2 weeks. Whether that will change once the order is processed remains to be seen. Either way i have a phone coming to me and i dont need to stand in an obnoxious line to get it

Verizon

Ordered from Verizon website at about 5am ET after apple couldn't handle switching from ATT to Verizon. Said set to receive on Sept 21st.

Well if has slipped to 2 weeks, does that mean two weeks from today and thus only a week after 9/21 date which isn't so bad.

Verizon got 300,000 initial iPhone 5's (no idea of the breakdown)... so I am assuming carriers world-wide got that amount, or similar. You then have to account for Apple's site. And then Apple's retail stores... the numbers add up quite quickly and it makes sense they are already sold out from most places for pre-orders.

The public will likely never know the true story on the supply. Apple is first and foremost a marketing based company. They absolutely are looking to create the right blend of demand/scarcity to entice the consumers and spark media attention. If that means throttling numbers via their online ordering systems and those of partners (telecom carriers, Best Buy, etc.) in order to drive up the hype and create nice lines at stores that the media love to shoot video of, then they'll do it. Or, it could be that they are processing as many as they can, given subcomponent supplies.

One shouldn't assume it's one or the other. Apple will do what's right for Apple FIRST. You and I are further down the list, but that doesn't necessarily mean they're intentionally holding back on this one.

Can't cancel apple.com order

I want to cancel my order and go to att.com and order.... apple won't let me cancel the order? WTH?? any help? Anyone??

LOL, hater to the bitter end. Do you ever have anything nice to say about Apple or the iPhone?

Yes, what a horrible company Apple is making a high quality product that appeals to the *majority* of the buying public. Huge mistake, nothing of interest to tech minded people, they'll never buy one.

Yeah it's like Apple is trying to make money or something. I mean what kind of business functions to make money? Aren't they supposed to make stuff hardly anyone wants?

When I ordered my MacBook Air 2012, the initial shipping date given was "2 weeks". It arrived in four days. I wouldn't be surprised if the same thing happens here.

i remember last year that they sold out pretty fast, and i had work.

so the next day i went to the mall with an apple store in it (over in Temecula California) and bought it no problem no lines, at like 11am it was weird ...
hoping the same situation this year although i might not be as lucky.... :apple:
