Placed my order around 3:30 am EST. Got confirmation email
"Your order is being processed" at 3:53am with
iPhone 5 64GB Black & Slate (GSM), AT&T, 1, $399.00
Available to ship: Delivers 9/21"

Now I go online & check and it says the Oct5 nonsense! What on earth. Anyone else getting this?

yes, which is why I cancelled my order - went to radio shack at opening and will pick it up in person on the 21st

Glad I caught a vid that Chris Pirillo was gonna be live-streaming his order. He found that the Apple Store app was up before the actual website, so I jumped and was able to order mine before the website went live :)

16gig Black due for delivery 9/21 :)

Note: Customers who are upgrading their iPhone are required to select one of the following rate plans for iPhone. To continue, select one of the data plans below. The data plan you select will replace your existing data plan.

There wasn't an option for unlimited of any sort. You are unable to proceed without choosing one of the listed plans.

Bizarre - Ordered mine through ATT website and it just stated - There will be a change to your plan

basically From unlimited data iphone To unlimited LTE data iphone...

Anyone that ordered through AT&T receive a confirmation email yet? I have been waiting since 4 am and have gotten nothing. I would at least like that confirmation that shows my order has gone through.

nope

When I ordered mine this morning 8 minutes after ordering opened I was dismayed to see my order was a 2-3 week wait time in the UK. I rang Apple just now and it seems the fact I ordered a spare cable with it was what was holding it back. I'm getting my phone on the 21st. I am massively happy. I just did a dance.

I didn't preorder because I will be traveling that week and don't want it sitting on my doorstep. However, I was planning on going to a nearby Apple Store on the 22. Am I foolish to think they will have some in stock?

Most likely. I remember the 4s rush...was crazy, people had it backordered for something like 5 months.

You'll never know the answer to this. Even when they release earnings, you'll never know how many units were sold before the shipping date was changed. Probably only a few people in the company have this info.

Agreed. But I don't get all the headlines that say "see, it's not a disappointment. Sold out in record breaking one hour!" when they don't have context. Apple could have limited pre orders to grab headlines and ensure lines on launch day. Yes, it's in their best interests to sell as many as possible and not limit pre orders, but it's also a marketing move. I just wish "journalists" would ask these questions or point them out before making these claims.

Mine doesn't give a specific date when its supposed to ship, it just says ships in 2 weeks... I wonder how it will be like in best buy or something

Stuck in the 2 weeks batch...

I set the alarm for 2:55 am (ET), but unfortunately at 2 am I had a freak sleep walking event (never had one before) that resulted in me bashing my head on the bed frame and having to go to the ER for 6 stitches. Tried to pull it up on the phone at the ER, but it just wasn't working...apple store app, website and ATT website were all throwing errors and lagging badly That took until 4 AM and by the time I got home...shipments had slipped.

Obviously its not the end of the world, but it certainly put the cherry on top of a bad night turning it horrible. At least it's Friday now. Congrats to everyone that got the first shipment!

LOL @ the sleep walking but hope you ok...:D

"Apple is doomed because new iPhone is the same as old iPhone".......

First batch sells out in one hour in the middle of the night.

It is the same thing that has been said every year since 2007 about the newly released iPhone. I suspect that the amount of iPhones that Apple sells in this quarter (let alone through the end of year) will blow out any previous sales figures. Not too shabby for a smart phone that pundits proclaimed the "meh" release. So is this going to be called "meh-gate" by the pundits.

LOL, you were right about putting quotation marks around the word journalists. Most of these people are bloggers looking for a click on their site. Would I call the iPhone a failure? Not at all. I'm sure millions, just like me, eagerly waited for 12AM/3AM to come by so that they could order, but you have admit that this is the type of publicity that not even money can buy. I wouldn't be shocked if I found out supplies were limited to create unprecedented hype.

Holy cow... you were injured at approximately 2AM and within two hours were done with the ER and on your way home?? A trip to the ER, here in Florida, is never less than 4 hours at minimum. It's ridiculous! Glad to hear you're ok, though. It could've been worse.

Hopefully you'll luck out and find a local retailer that has plenty of stock. I arrived at my Apple store last year at around 3AM and later felt like a complete fool, when I found out that people were showing up at 5PM and buying one with no problem.

Can you copy the email you received? Did you upgrade a phone or start a new account?

Do you know if you were using Premier?

Not Premier, I purchased a black 64GB upgrade to my 4S. Clicked "order" at 6:26 am Pacific time on AT&T's website, here is the confirmation I received:

It didn't sell out in an hour - an hour plus

U can go through the threads and see people who ordered at 1:06 am still got the 21st delivery date.

Anyways u don't need to be a genius to see that this would sell.

Depending on your model people are going from 21st delivery date on the "we received your order" status to showing Oct delivery once the order processes. Some of the people ordered before 4am EST

I wonder how you did yours an hour ago and have a confirmation delivery date. And i did mine like 6 hrs ago, and it says processing. On top of that i am still waiting on a confirmation? :(

Dunno. Mine was a (full price) upgrade, so maybe that has something to do with it. I placed my order at 6:26 am, got a confirming email immediately, and then two minutes later received a second email confirming the 9/21 delivery date.

Hope you get some good news soon.

Glad to hear you're home and ok. Not to get personal on a public forum but if sleep walking is new to you, and you've started taking any new medications, let your prescribing doctor know. Some medications cause this and can be a very dangerous side effect, as you've already found out.

Enjoy that new phone when it arrives! :)

Holy mothereffing cow. Wow. So either this is the biggest launch yet or the phone was in extremely low supply initially. Glad I got my orders in before this. Just amazing.

I'd say a little of both. Yes, the iPhone 5 was a huge success and at the same time, supplies were limited. But boy, do numbers speak. Apple is king of all markets whether anyone likes them or not.
