What time did you get it in, and what did you order?

Around 3:32 EDT on the iOS app after messing around online on two computers at AT&T's site. I got the 32GB White AT&T version. I checked shortly afterward and the Apple website was also working. AT&T's site never came up for me except on Chrome, where it kicked me out at the check-in screen.

There is no way they got more orders for the 5 then they did for the 4 for pre-order in the first hour! If you believe that your on some serious Apple Koolaid!

This is Apple creating the illusion that its super popular, and demand outweighs the supply. Meaning that they all sold out in the first hour means they limited the stocks to create this. Kudos to Tim Cook, he is a sales guy.

Personally I think its a stupid move, This phone is now where ahead of the competition like the iphone 4 was, this old strategy will result in people who are on the fence jumping to another product. Apple got it right with the Ipad by providing sufficient supply at launch, if we are moving back to Chinese scalpers snapping up phones.....fark that! I am seriously tired of seeing scalpers outside apple stores buying all the allocation everyday to send overseas and denying actual customers form whom the product was intended for.

This is the first time since the original Iphone that I am serious considering cancelling my pre-order. I'll pop into an Apple store next week, and see what it does for me, but its just lacking the wow factor, and now with this Supply games... seriously contemplating saying stuff it. And I am a huge Apple fan, with every iphone they launched and over a dozen apple products at home at the moment.

Say what you will about Tim Cook or how Apple is without Jobs around, but there are very few product launches that keep people waiting up late at night to spend a few hundred dollars. Not to mention the activity on multiple forums at such a late hour because of the anticipation and excitement for a product. Those are things Apple continues to do.

Besides iPhones, there is one other product launch that I know people went absolutely nuts over and the first 3 sold on eBay for $15,000 or more. That was of course the PS3 back in November of 2006. I remember there was a crowd in-front of a store that was told to go to the other side of the street and they ran over a police car to do it.

How do they choose?

I got the "Your phone is reserved email" and proceeded to complete my order only to find out it will be shipped in 2 weeks! My phone was reserved before my friend ordered his but he was able to get his shipped 9/21, where I have to wait 2 weeks! How do they choose who gets the "reserved" page and who automatically gets the checkout. I think its kind of unfair that even though I got my confirmation number first, he still gets his shipped first.

Can you hear that?

Its the sound of $,$$$,$$$,$$$ bursting into that $117bn cash reserve.

Cha-freaking-ching!

On East Coast; woke up at 3:10 a.m.
Grabbed iPad to order two iPhones (ATT-grandfathered data on both)
After entering info for first phone with apple care, saw standard shipping and tried to edit -- timed out
Went to computer and used Safari and put both orders in but could not include apple care
Placed orders and went to phone to edit and got automated message to give web orders; did not edit b/c I thought that it might cancel orders and re-do

Have 2 email confirmations (3:40 am and 3:47 am) that orders are in processing stage with delivery 9/21

Can't believe that delivery dates have slipped already
Probably would have been screwed if I had edited orders
Will have to drag the two phones to local Apple stores after 9/21 but consider myself to be very fortunate
Have done the line routine but as others have posted, it sounds like this time, it has the potential to be epic

Talked to ATT over night and they said to go to ATT on Sept 20th and you can get it in store. Not sure why she said that but just thought I would give everyone a heads up. I know its pretty un realistic but just saying. LOL

My fren is doomed.

I told my fren not to go to the bed and wait with me.

He said he will wake up at 3:00 Am (EST) but he did not. After an hour we did order it but without knowing 2 weeks ship. He was so exicited but after getting an email conformation he was like fk..I am gonna cancel it and wait on the line on 21st.

ATT did not update my information (I have changed the market) so I am gussing I have to be on the line for 5,6 hours on 21. FML :(

The issue is whether your carrier's server confirmed your account information on time. If there were issues, then Apple couldn't confirm the right pricing and had to wait on your carrier.

Verizon still shipping on the 21st

just ordered from verizon and they will be delivering by 9/21. my body is ready.

The PS3 launch was crazy! I remember people camped in front of my local Best Buy about 4 or 5 days early. That line grew to about 50+ people quickly even though the store was only guaranteed something like 15-20 units. I walked in that same Best Buy in the middle of the day 5 days later just as a shipment happened to be getting delivered and I walked out with a brand new PS3.

I guess the Qualcomm antenna shortage has hit Apple as they probably had a very limited amount of iPhones ready to ship on the 21st. No wonder Apple dipped the other day.

I was one of the lucky ones at launch, I had to get a bundle with Resistance and a controller, but that is exactly what I wanted. I've kept this 60gb dusted and clean and it's still kicking even though I use an original Slim now.

Yeah me too. Looks like most people are ordering spares.

I need 4 really, one for home laptop, one for just charging, one for car charger and one for use at work.

I was worried at first, but I am guessing these will be available in stores no problem.... I hope.

My original 60GB wifi lasted til last December before it finally died on me. The slim doesn't look as nice as the original, I don't think.

I have a quick question. I, hopefully, was one of the first to pre-order the iphone 5. Not really because I'm a die-hard iphone fan, but because I have a basically completely broken and useless Iphone 3g (no S). So I knew that if I didn't pre-order fast I would have to wait 2-3 additional weeks. My question is, is there a difference between pre-ordering thru the network services websites like ATT and the Apple Store? At midnight, the apple store wasn't working but the ATT website was taking pre-orders so I just went ahead and did it there to not waste time. I just want to know if Apple prioritizes on where you pre-ordered it or is it really a first come first served in all the different websites that allow pre-order?
