When the AT&T site and Apple site were not opening by 3:02 I went on the IOS app on my phone and got right in.

My confirmation email is time stamped 3:07am

The App was the way to go this time around.

Im using another upgrade within the family plan and all I had to change was the phone #. Of course I have to goto the AT&T store to have them switch it over to my phone#, done that a few times before. Man I know the line will be killer but at least I will have the phone and once I get to the AT&T rep it will only be a few minutes to get it switched. :D I must say they have improved in their knowledge a lot in the last few years... at least by me.

Order Shipping?

So when I placed my order online it said delivery 9/21 and received my email and it said "Available to ship: 2 weeks" so I went back to the site thinking that I was going to have to wait 2 weeks but saw that the screen was still showing "Available 9/21" (hit refresh to make sure I wasn't reading old information). Then when I went back 5 mins. later it said "Available 2 weeks". Anyone know when that means I'll actually get it?

Also, I wanted AppleCare but not available to order tonight... Anyone know what's up with that?

Shipping on the 21st?

If my email says "Available to ship: Delivers 9/21" - Does that mean I was able to make it for the first wave?

Took me 30 mins to order, and was finally able to order around 3:30 set

This ain't no 4s.... They don't have millions of components lying around from the last year.

Stupid if you weren't waiting at midnight. Better go camp out now if you didn't.

Sorry folks, but this isn't that surprising. The 4 launched when it was still only mildly cool to have an iPhone. Now that even my wife wants one, it's just supply and demand.

Supply of a phone that people have been waiting a year for, and has brand new components and connectors. They didn't have a stockpile.

My 64gb black has been charged on full, and updated to processing with a delivery date of the 21st. Glad I was a big boy and stayed up an extra hour lol...

I'll drive by the campers and wave though!

Nighty :)

Except of course that the 4S had a different logic board, antenna band, camera... oh, and they kept making the 4 as well so no, they didn't have "millions of components laying around". This is Apple for gods sake, they have the most efficient supply chain in electronics and they really don't have loads of spare parts hanging around unused.

The 5 will have been built for weeks if not months before the announcement on Wednesday. They'll have millions of units ready to go and a supply chain ready to churn out millions more every month from now on. It's not a huge surprise that Apple have sold out of their initial allocation in the US so quickly (carriers may of course still have stock) but to claim it's because there's no 'stockpile' just seems silly to me.

Even at that price they aren't making much money after the ETF/non contract pricing and all the eBay and PayPal fees they'll have to pay.

If they are Canadian and only buy unlocked phones, it's about $250 profit. That is the kind of money I've seen when I sold the 4 and 4S and will soon with the iPhone 5. Over charging for shipping covers the eBay fees.

AT&T's website has yet to load for me! This is ridiculous. My only hope is that my business rep can reserve some phone for me in one of the stores. Otherwise this sucks. Last year I was able to order 5 4S's at 7:30 am no problem. ugh.

Should be. Wait for a bit till your order summery page (link in email) says processing. If it's still saying 9/21, you should be golden.

Man, there are gonna be lots of angry people this morning. And they will sell out even quicker next year when those people realize they'll have to stay up since they missed it this year. Thank god I didn't follow last year's trend!

Yeah after the chaos for the 4S PreOrders I am surprised how it went tonight, even though AT&T's site was totally busted.

So, ATT or Apple's fault?

I'm going with ATT on this... Servers couldn't handle the load, backed everything up...

I wouldn't be surprised (fingers crossed), if even some of the "2 weeks delivered" phones arrive by the 21st, once the registration with ATT overload abates...

"I'm too old for this Sh.t..." Murtaugh

That sucks. I would like to have seen how many they could sell without supply constraints. I mean how many phones could they have possibly sold in the first hour?

There are other good phones out there this time around. Making people wait is more dangerous than it used to be.

Even the lightning cables say 2-3 weeks now. Glad I got 2 of those on order Wednesday. :) Should have 2 phones and 2 extra cables by next Friday. :)

just got an email to complete order when I tried to pre-order earlier. IT DOES NOT HOLD PLACE IN LINE. Delivery time is now 2 weeks

GRRRRRRRRRRRR... This is what I was worried about... What's their definition of reserved then!?

Sprint didn't even give me the option to ship it to the store
looks like I'll be waiting in line next friday
needless to say I'm very upset with sprint because they really didn't help out new customers at all

:(

Yes, you are safe. I ordered two, one at 12:07 and the other at 12:10 and they both say that.

I had the same experience. When I pressed the "complete order" button or whatever it was labeled on Apple's website it was saying "Available 9/21". But my email says Ships in 2 weeks. Shouldn't I be made aware of that information before I complete an order, especially if the order I'm completing is promising to ship on the 21st? Rather annoying.

There is no way they got more orders for the 5 then they did for the 4 for pre-order in the first hour! If you believe that your on some serious Apple Koolaid!

This is Apple creating the illusion that its super popular, and demand outweighs the supply. Meaning that they all sold out in the first hour means they limited the stocks to create this. Kudos to Tim Cook, he is a sales guy.

Personally I think its a stupid move, This phone is now where ahead of the competition like the iphone 4 was, this old strategy will result in people who are on the fence jumping to another product. Apple got it right with the Ipad by providing sufficient supply at launch, if we are moving back to Chinese scalpers snapping up phones.....fark that! I am seriously tired of seeing scalpers outside apple stores buying all the allocation everyday to send overseas and denying actual customers form whom the product was intended for.

This is the first time since the original Iphone that I am serious considering cancelling my pre-order. I'll pop into an Apple store next week, and see what it does for me, but its just lacking the wow factor, and now with this Supply games... seriously contemplating saying stuff it. And I am a huge Apple fan, with every iphone they launched and over a dozen apple products at home at the moment.

Mine says the same and I placed mine at 12:08 PST. I'd bet you're OK.

I have been trying to get through on the Att website for over an hour now and I keep getting error messages.

AT&T worked for me with no issues at all. Not one hiccup through the ordering process. Received two emails within 5 minutes. Second email had my phone numbers already listed.

wow! and some folks think they were gonna casually get up at 6:00am and get their order in for the 21st....

More people for the stores next weekend! To be fair, the same thing happened with the new iPad. Pre-order shipping times slipped very quickly, but there were stacks and stacks of stock in the stores on launch date.

There are several possibilities that come to mind:

  • Sales are even better than Apple forecast (as a shareholder, I want this to be the case).
  • There will be massive stock in stores and Apple deliberately limited pre-order quantities.
  • There are supply constraints given the rumored yield issues with Sharp and LG, as well as the aggressive rollout schedule for the iPhone worldwide.
