Everyone is "used to the weight"? Completely disagree. This is all about the weight.

I only upgraded from an SE 2020 because of the reduced weight the Air received, yet still had size increased. I have a 13 gram metal bumper on my 164 gram Air, making it 177 grams total.
Who makes the metal bumper?

I used to do the same (with an Amazon Firestick) but many of the tv’s are made for hotels now and lock their settings and disable the HDMI ports. It became too much of a hassle to try and often fail to setup so now if the tv doesn’t have native streaming (which while still not super common is a nice feature) I just use my iPad Pro which I travel with and has a cell plan.
You have to unplug everything from the TV, then restart the TV with the old unplug replug power. Then you can get the roku to work. But you can’t use a stick, must be a box with a remote that controls power and volume, then you can usually control everything, though sometimes you need the tv remote for power and volume.

The travel router allows for captive setup and then all your devices connect to the router rather than each device trying to connect to the hotel as even if your device can do captive setup, some hotels have that messed up royally.

It will usually work. But then there is the hotel wifi that likes to slow to a crawl to mess up streamers.

Hotel IT setups are just the most frustrating setups on the planet. Worse than schools.

Before excessive doom and gloom sets in, I think we should remember that we don’t actually know how Apple will react to this.

Maybe they keep it around on a multi cycle and lower the price a little, and it slowly finds its groove?
Excellent point!

It would be encouraging to see Apple respond by making some improvements, keeping it in the lineup and proving they are committed to variety and choices.

The only thing I don’t like about my Air is the USB port; it’s just a bit sharp on the bottom edge. Otherwise the phone is great.

The iPhone Air literally has the same battery life as the 16 Pro.

Did everyone whine about that one last year like it was the end of the world?

I’ll take the thinner form factor any day of the week. I’m tired of these big brick phones.
A lie told 100 times becomes the truth. No one cares that Air lasts all day, the narrative is that it won't last.

I never needed the extra cameras. I’m not a Pro photographer.

Who needs extra battery ? Air lasts better than my iPhone 6s Plus!

Next year, when Air stops production, I’ll feel even more unique and special !

Or

Apple since 2016:
2 lenses are better
Longer battery life!

Apple with Air:
You don’t need more than 1 lens or a longer battery because it’s so thin (except where it’s not thin).

In my opinion, the main issue is the price. The compromises aren’t that significant for most people, but Apple priced the Air too close to the Pro models. They wanted to position it as a thinner version of the Pro ("With the power of pro inside."), which limited how much cheaper they could make it. The problem is that the small price gap means the Pro ends up cannibalizing the Air’s sales. That’s what pushed me toward the Pro, why pay nearly the same price for less? Once you add the MagSafe battery, it basically costs the same as the Pro.
Agree it’s the price, too high. I will look for good deals on eBay UK as the Air fits my needs, currently using SE 2016 with battery on last legs

“it’s the economy, stupid”. The Air might be nicer than that base 17, but it’s not functionally better than the base 17.

And it’s more expensive.

Look around you, irrespective where you are. If you’re reading this on MR, it’s highly likely you live in a country where the cost of living is increasing more rapidly than your income, so your discretionary income is shrinking.

Given that, there are a lot of people who fully appreciate the Air, but will buy the basic phone because it mightn’t be as pretty, but it’s a very solid phone and you get more for your money.

There’s a lot of people who love Ferraris but who buy people carriers. This is no different.

And, to be blunt, they are absolutely right.

It will probably have a two year life cycle just like the Minis and Pluses before it. I predict next year they use a Silicon battery which will fix almost all of its compromises.

$200 more than the 17 with a worse camera only slightly thinner. They still sell an even cheaper 16.

It should be:

Air cheapest, not $999 either.
17 mid range
17 Pro high end.
17 Pro Max highest end.

Then there is $3500 AVP, rumored $4k folding iPad…

The people pricing these live in a bubble that normal people don’t enter I think.

1. Denial
2. Anger <—
3. Bargaining
4. Depression
5. Acceptance

You’ll probably notice a lot angry posts about lack of marketing, blaming reviewers, or something else. Anything but the actual product itself.

Most people want at least a couple cameras, the bast battery life they can get, and stereo speakers. The $999 price tag doesn’t help.
They’re finally getting a taste of how mini fans felt back then!

You don't need those chips because its so thin.

Under the initial manufacturing plan, the iPhone Air accounted for about 10% to 15% of overall new iPhone production this year. So there is roughly 90 million iPhone 17 units produced this year. The Air would account for 9 million at the most and probably half of that estimate with the major production cuts to the line.

The spec didn’t effect video out the usb speeds are exactly the same on the non pro iphones

Air doesn't do Video out via USB/Dongle.
17 & 17 Pro do, as per normal.

So 1 month in without having any insights what the initial production was and now repeated stories about supply chain cuts ...
I rather wait until the calendar Q4 is over and see what Apple has to say before calling it a "fail"...
From what the analysts are saying, Apple expected the Air to be 10-15% of unit sales, but turned out to be only around 3% so far.

Eh not really. I found the mini/air hate tend to come from the pro users.

Personally I would say what I don’t like about something but I would never shame someone for liking something I don’t like.
