Are You are referring to now ? Given they have left the pro and enterprise sectors ?

My view is also that they have become a Sony , consumer electronics, music, and now TV.

For me it's simple, how do (did) they make their revenue ? Via hardware sales . Until the iPhone stops being the bulk of sales, they are a hardware company .

What software do they sell that they are dependent as a revenue source ?

One can argue Microsoft is also both, they are not , thier main revenue stream is softwate .

You explained it much better than me :)
Well said. Google, Microsoft are software companies dabbling in hardware. What makes Apple so remarkable is how good they are at software given most hardware companies are bad at software.

Maybe, but my explanation isn't bullet proof. You can download iTunes for funsies and buy songs without buying a device, but 1) who would do that? and 2) that appears to be the exception and not the rule

When you focus on the user experience between your hardware / software you create a great product. Apple nailed this .

Exactly. Apple has succeeded with the idea that a piece of hardware cannot work without proper software behind it. While MSFT, Google do not completely share that philosophy, they have succeeded by standing on the shoulders of OEMs to build devices that work great. It's an interesting philosophy for each company but none are right or wrong.

All those years downloading iTunes for PC proves Apple is not a software company :p

Or safari for windows ...

Not really a valid comparison. One is a blown up iPod while the other is a smart AI device.

You're making zero sense. I stated the pixel loads most apps apart from games faster. You said it's an outright lie. I am waiting for you to prove I was lying. I am still waiting.

Your original post said:

Yet still in speed tests the pixel is faster on every app except games.

This statement is a lie.

By your definition (how they make their revenue) Microsoft is a software company and Google is an advertising company.

I agree with that.

Google is protecting thier revenue source by playing in all these areas.

Microsoft are software , they dable in hardware

And coke sells a beverage.... etc etc.

Apple is a hardware company. If it was a software company they would be selling thier OS to run on other manafactures hardware.

Do you see anyone buying macOS or iOS ?

Microsoft is a software company.
So is Apple. If Steve Jobs said Apple is a software company and called the iPhone software, I'm going with him. Plus, it makes sense. Apple never has the best hardware but people choose it because of the software experience.

I know it's hard for people like you to think beyond your nose because you SEE hardware and say HARDWARE COMPANY, but Apple is all software.

Again, listen to this man.

I love how you go from saying that the A10 and A11 are "destroying" the 835 in real world tests... and then the only example you give is exporting 4K video and saving high-res images.... something that i'd be willing to bet that 90% of "real world" users NEVER do on their phone.

Yes... the aluminum body of the Pixel 2/XL has a plastic coating. I think it's actually nice, since it doesn't feel like an ice cube on a cold day if you don't use a phone case. It also makes a bit of a grip on the phone more easily achievable than just bare anodized aluminum. You say the Pixel 2 looks idiotic, cheap, and old with it's big bezels. I'd take dual front-facing speakers any day over next to no bezels or an inexcusable in full-screen video notch. Face unlock? meh. And if you really want to talk about a phone looking "old".... the design of the iPhone hasn't changed in what.... 3 years? And i'm not even talking about DRASTIC change. Even between the iPhone 8 and iPhone X. The only PHYSICAL design changes between the two are the camera/flash orientation, and the lack of a home button. iPhone 8 and 7? they changed the antenna band a little. 7 and 6? again, basically just the antenna bands have changed a bit.

Color shift... an issue you only really notice on a white background... and if for some reason you have a weird fascination with using your phone while holding your phone with it not facing directly at you.

And i'm sorry... but no. The notch is NOT "stylish". "Apple gave us more screen" Yea... and it only took how many years? And they sacrifice some of that screen real-estate to put a tiny little notch in to hide the front facing camera and other crap? Yep... let's make the screen look stupid and have an area that can NEVER be used for visible content just so it doesn't have a top "bezel". That makes sense. Give you .3 inches more "screen" over the iPhone 8 Plus, but make part of that bonus be taken up by what is essentially an opaque black smudge on the screen. I can't look at anything on that phone without my eyes immediately going to that stupid notch.

I'm rather enjoying my Pixel 2 XL. Not at all bothered by the "color shift" (which is basically just a slight blue hue when the phone isn't viewed directly.... not like it looks like it switches to inverted colors mode when you tilt the phone even the slightest). I'm also enjoying my front facing speakers and ability to easily hold my phone without accidentally interacting with the screen thanks to those slightly larger bezels.... and a fingerprint reader so i can have the phone unlocked BEFORE it's even in front of my face. I'm also enjoying the fact that SHOULD i ever drop my phone (which i've never done), it's ALUMINUM body won't shatter like the glass iPhone 8/X.
I said the A10 destroyed the 835 in real world tests. Unless you think the A11 is worse than the A10, it's software related, which I acknowledged repeatedly.

When he makes the comparison between Sony any apple, music players, do you understand what he means by Software?

Do you understand that part where he says, "Apple views itself as a software company?"

He literally says "it's software" when referring to iPhone.

/discussion.

Nope you do not.

Let me give you a very quick free lesson, it's not black and white , where it's hardware or software. Apple's success is built on user experience , when he says Software, he is referring to building the iPod with a user interface that Sony is not capable of , and he is 100% right, and apple sells iPods.....

If you ever get into development you will understand why apple is so far ahead its, cause the focus is user experience, It is hardware/software/UX . With apple UX comes first and the hardware / software meet those requirements.

Don't take 1 minute clips out of contex and pretend you have have won the internet ;)

Not out of context. Apple is a software company and your entire argument proves you agree.

Not so much about the comparison, but does anyone know where I can get the wallpaper that he is using on the IPhone X? It looks really clean and fits great on the X.

^ Another video showing how much a Samsung charges faster over a Pixel and iPhone. None of them can defeat my LGs at 1 hr and 16 min. Look it up on PhoneArena.

G5, baby. #1 ranked next to V10. And if wears out faster, I can just pop in a new battery.

https://www.phonearena.com/news/Pho...t-charging-from-0-to-100-2016-edition_id81675

The main flagship stars of 2017 are Note8, iPhone X, and Pixel 2 XL. If I see the S8+, S8, and V30 together, I think of Marcia (S8+), Jan (V30), and Cindy (S8).

The S8 is already quite tall for me already and I can barely have my right thumb reach down for lockscreen messages on the X.

I guess I have no choice but will have to make a Samsung as an option. But it has to be unlocked. I hate carrier bloat.

2018
Sony
Nokia
Motorola
Samsung

Already got the last breed of flagships with removable battery and IR blaster, so I don't need another LG. Whatever phone has microSD slot will be my next phone.

Inserting memory cards and doing drag and drop is way faster speeds than even iTunes that needs to backup your iPhone every time you sync. I can't stand using iTunes. It's a speed bump like slow "fast" charging.

You could level that same criticism at Googles doorstep and you wouldn't be wrong. Just look at Androids sloppy implementations of Facial Recognition and Finger print sensor (when it was initially released). The Pixel is using LGs crap displays that have all kinds of issues. Then you have some Pixel phones shipping without the OS.
Pointing fingers doesn't absolve the issue. You can't Rob a bank and then tell the cop "others are robbing too".. and the cop will just let you go. Just because Google doing it or Samsung doing it, doesn't mean apple should do it too. And then if that's what we expect from apple, then don't put apple on a pedestal like there is no company like Apple. You can't have it both ways.
Also, remember that pixel is not the money earner for Google, iPhone is for Apple.

Apple is a consumer products company and the consumer product is hardware. They are a hardware company by definition. The price of admission to any piece of Apple software or services is to buy a piece of hardware.

I like discussing phones with people, but these kinds of posts are a discredit to iPhone users.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Apple_Inc.
"Apple Inc. is an American multinational technology company headquartered in Cupertino, California that designs, develops, and sells consumer electronics, computer software, and online services."

I guess we could debate the definition of "what is apple" till the cows come home.

How long have you been an apple user ? This could explain the confusion .

That definition you quoted applies to Apple, Sony, Microsoft ..... any consumer company.....

Have a read http://fortune.com/2016/10/26/apple-services-revenue/

For a long time it was viewed as a hardware company , though these days you could argue it's neither hardware or software and ha in fact become an ecosystem. Us old fans have always viewed it as a hardware company .... though time has moved on .

It's not just another "consumer company "

Now that's a quality built phone in China by employees who are now no longer children and now have safety nets outside the windows to prevent suicides. I mean a quality built American phone.

Just remember. Designed by Apple. Assembled in China.

Also remember I'm sure it's not really an issue. I could just see the headlines though on every website bashing the pixel phone lol.

I checked out the X at a Verizon store (plenty in stock on launch day) and definitely noticed a lower build quality within seconds after picking it up. The screen quality is muted by the obnoxious notch. It's fast and has great software but the hardware edge was squandered by dividing resources between two phone models when only the best was market driven. How much could Apple lower the price and boost production if they didn't waste efforts on the "8"?
Not sure if you picked up a broken phone or something but the iPhone X absolutely does not have poor build quality.
