These phones aren't even on the same planet, for me personally.

The Pixel has an excellent camera but:
  • Mostly Plastic
  • Has Huge Bezels
  • An inferior OLED from LG. Color shift. Burn in.
  • Less premium build quality
  • Generally Ugly
  • No wireless charging.
  • Removed headphone jack after making fun of Apple...loses all credibility

More just your general opinion than fact...

"Mostly plastic".... uuhm... how? It's an aluminum body phone. It just has a plastic coating on it so that it's both not ice cold to the touch, nor is it incredibly slippery if you use it without a case.

"Has huge bezels".... Has front facing stereo speakers. I'd gladly have slightly larger bezels for that.

"Inferior OLED" Yes... it's no Samsung OLED with it's over-the-top vivid colors (though they did recently add a "Saturated" colors option to bump them up more to that kind of level... which i'd rather have more natural colors any day of the week), I wouldn't say it's INFERIOR. Burn in doesn't seem to affect EVERY display, and color shift is only incredibly noticeable if you're looking at a white screen. Also have to be looking at the phone from a bit more than a less-than-direct angle to see it... which who uses their phone in that way anyway?

"Less premium build quality" ... because it's not glass? You're totally right. That "Most breakable iPhone" crown makes having two insanely expensive to replace panes of glass SOOO worth it.

"Generally ugly" that's just your opinion. I think it actually looks quite nice.

"No wireless charging" Yep... because Google decided to go with a MILES more durable aluminum back and not feature wireless charging.... something that's been around for what.... 4 years now, and suddenly because Apple did it, everyone else who doesn't isn't good enough? I'd rather plug my phone in for a couple minutes and get a days worth of charge than be able to say "Look at this, i don't even have to plug my phone in!"

as for the headphone jack.... eeh... having it or not doesn't really bother me much at all, since i almost never use any sort of headphones with my phone. If i'm out and about, i'm generally not on my phone unless i'm sitting down to eat somewhere, or in my car getting ready to leave somewhere or after arriving where i was going. I'm not the type to be on my phone around people, much less with anything crammed into or sitting over my ears (which is generally incredibly rude, especially in a retail environment). It's even worse when people are listening to something on their phone with earbuds or headphones on WHILE DRIVING. Which, i'm pretty sure that's actually illegal. But long story short... doesn't bother me one way or the other if there is or isn't a headphone jack. Think the main reason Google razzed on Apple about it last year with the iPhone 7 was because it was basically out of nowhere. People with all these nice, high quality headphones had to resort to using another dongle to use them. What's worse is if maybe some of those people also used a headphone amp as well... which would then be 3 different connection points between the phone and the headphones (or 4 if you consider headphones with removable audio cables). Last year's Pixel didn't remove the headphone jack, more than likely because other options that didn't result in NEEDING to use a dongle didn't really exist... which is kinda what happened last year with the iPhone 7. It came with earbuds with a lightning connector... but there weren't really any other 3rd party options at the time.

Show me a video where this isn't true since you want to say it's a lie...I'm waiting patiently. Apart from games, the pixel loads almost every other app faster. I'm waiting on the video.

I upgraded my gaming PC awhile ago to add a GTX 1080. After the upgrade I tried out several games. I played around with the settings and resolution to see how high I could crank everything up and still maintain a playable frame rate.

No wait, I didn’t. I launched the games and timed how long it took before the main screen was displayed. Because how fast the game plays is meaningless. All that matters is how fast it loads up.

Sound ridiculous? Well, that’s the exact same proof you’re using to measure performance.

You're making zero sense. I stated the pixel loads most apps apart from games faster. You said it's an outright lie. I am waiting for you to prove I was lying. I am still waiting.

I'm sorry, but let's recap Pixel 2/XL issues:

  • Grainy LED panel provided by LG, check
  • Burn-in on 2-week old LED green, check
  • Ships with missing accessories in the box, check
  • Ships with NO OPERATING SYSTEM, check
Who's the tester???

The iPhoneX has zero issues right? Oh wait a minute...
  • Green line down the screen, check
  • Cold weather touch issue and freezing, check
  • GPS drifting problems, check
  • Face ID login issues, check
  • Extra $150 to be an Apple Beta tester, check

iPhone X is cheaper when you consider it has 5 years of guaranteed updates vs. 2 years for the Pixel :)
But typically, after the 2nd or 3rd major OS update, performance takes a hit!
[doublepost=1510462101][/doublepost]
I will never understand customization on a phone. Why? The only person who will see it at the end of the day is you. All it does is make your phone slower and wastes space.
I can't abide by this. Main observation point was when iOS let you set up your own wallpapers... people liked putting pics of their kids, family, spouses, pets, scenery... you name it.

Me, I like setting up widgets on my phone. Leaving apps I rarely use in its "app drawer", while putting all the ones I use as part of the home screen, spread across 2 pages. Last but not least, I've gotten used to 5-row keyboards with the number line, and have period and comma available without having to switch to punctuation view/mode.

Wrong. Apple is a hardware company. Software companies sell software. Apple sells hardware with complimentary software so that the hardware will work.
Wrong. Apple is a software company which is why Samsung can’t compete.

Or I guess you disagree with the man himself?

Everything Apple is goes back to software.

Yet still in speed tests the pixel is faster on every app except games. Apple fans said to wait on 11.1 and even after 11.1 it's the same result.
[doublepost=1510435648][/doublepost]
Many prefer the pixel 2xl camera so okay they are on par. Speakers are probably the same? How so? Did you test them yourself or are you making random assumptions? The speakers are better on the pixel 2xl.

How is build quality superior? You keep saying this.

Yet the snapdragon 835 keeps pace with apple a11 chip. Apple fans a few years ago was all about, it's not about the numbers. Now the numbers are better on iPhones so it's all about the numbers. Yet in real world usage the 835 is close to the A11 chip. Either that or Android is much more optimized and faster than iOS. So what is it? 835 is way behind or iOS is way behind Android in optimization?
A11 destroys the 835. Again, it’s Apples issue, but even the A10 was destroying the 835 in real world speed tests. iOS 11 needs work, but acting like the competition has anything on the A series chips or are even on par is just laughable. The A11 is going to age well, just like the A10 and will be able to run heavy apps a lot better. Opening Instagram isn’t really what the a11 will really show its power. Watch a test exporting a 4K video or saving a high res image...the a11 is on a different planet.

Any speed test iPhone is losing now is because of poor ram management in iOS 11 which I agree is inexcusable for Apple. An iPhone 7 on iOS 10 keeps more apps open than iOS 11 iPhone 8 or X. Hopefully, they’ll address it.

WOW, you iSheep are truly like the GOP of tech world. Uneducated and clueless when it comes to facts.

1) Mostly plastics? You mean mostly aluminum body (hence why no wireless charging) and some glass. Very premium build.
2) Huge bezels? All of a sudden you guys are masters in bezels? Have you seen iPhone 8 and before? Just shut up.
3) Inferior OLED from LG with color shift? Read Apple's own words that warn you color shift will happen on iPhone X at angles, because guess what? OLED DISPLAY. Also, read on Apple's page, burn ins happen on OLEDs.
4) Less premium build quality? See #1. Also, last time I checked, Pixel did not shatter when dropped.
5) Generally ugly? Have you seen the forehead on iPhone X? Let's not cast stones here haha
6) No wireless charging? See #1. Also, your iPhone X is using wireless charging tech from years ago, Samsung is years ahead.
7) Loses all credibility? So did you the moment you wrote this comment being clueless to the facts.
Haha, sounds like someone is butthurt. I was dead on, hence all the likes.

The pixel has a plastic button and the entire thing is dipped in plastic. Yes, iPhone X makes Apple far ahead in the bezel game...the Pixel look idiotic, cheap, and old. The iPhone 8, Bezels and all still looks a lot better than the Pixel.

Lol, the color shift on the LG panel is completely different than on the X. Apple is just warning about the normal pitfalls of OLED...but they managed them so much better. The Pixel looks like a third rate phone.

The notch is stylish. Apple gave us more screen...they could have easily made it straight but they didn’t want to. Don’t hate because you can’t afford it.

Your post just reeks of bias lol. For one the pixel isn't plastic, it's aluminum with a sprayed on coating. All oleds will suffer burn in if given a static image long enough. It's sad that some pixels had it happen early but it's not like this is a new thing.

The iPhone has a all glass setup which would solely argue that it's weaker by far compared to the pixels aluminum frame.

Who uses wireless charging when we have turbo chargers anyways? I mean I ain't got all day for my phone to charge on a mat. Point in fact wireless charging sucks lol.

You could have made some valid points but sadly you didn't and obviously just grabbed facts out of the air (whether made up or not)

I like apple's computers and stuff but when it comes to phones I'm always with Google.
Google services and software are first class. Apple has edge on the hardware.

Pixel 2 will be my next phone. Mainly because I'm done with LG. LG made the 2XL, plenty screen issues and I currently have the LG made Nexus 5x suffering the infamous bootloop twice in 2 years.

I'm also running the LG5K with the MBP and lucky to have a better unit without much issue.

To me LG is pretty f-ed up.
Btw I liked the review's attempt to be fair and unbiased even on an Apple site, but the Apple fans don't take it well without a victory. Sheeps are strong.

I love how you go from saying that the A10 and A11 are "destroying" the 835 in real world tests... and then the only example you give is exporting 4K video and saving high-res images.... something that i'd be willing to bet that 90% of "real world" users NEVER do on their phone.

Yes... the aluminum body of the Pixel 2/XL has a plastic coating. I think it's actually nice, since it doesn't feel like an ice cube on a cold day if you don't use a phone case. It also makes a bit of a grip on the phone more easily achievable than just bare anodized aluminum. You say the Pixel 2 looks idiotic, cheap, and old with it's big bezels. I'd take dual front-facing speakers any day over next to no bezels or an inexcusable in full-screen video notch. Face unlock? meh. And if you really want to talk about a phone looking "old".... the design of the iPhone hasn't changed in what.... 3 years? And i'm not even talking about DRASTIC change. Even between the iPhone 8 and iPhone X. The only PHYSICAL design changes between the two are the camera/flash orientation, and the lack of a home button. iPhone 8 and 7? they changed the antenna band a little. 7 and 6? again, basically just the antenna bands have changed a bit.

Color shift... an issue you only really notice on a white background... and if for some reason you have a weird fascination with using your phone while holding your phone with it not facing directly at you.

And i'm sorry... but no. The notch is NOT "stylish". "Apple gave us more screen" Yea... and it only took how many years? And they sacrifice some of that screen real-estate to put a tiny little notch in to hide the front facing camera and other crap? Yep... let's make the screen look stupid and have an area that can NEVER be used for visible content just so it doesn't have a top "bezel". That makes sense. Give you .3 inches more "screen" over the iPhone 8 Plus, but make part of that bonus be taken up by what is essentially an opaque black smudge on the screen. I can't look at anything on that phone without my eyes immediately going to that stupid notch.

I'm rather enjoying my Pixel 2 XL. Not at all bothered by the "color shift" (which is basically just a slight blue hue when the phone isn't viewed directly.... not like it looks like it switches to inverted colors mode when you tilt the phone even the slightest). I'm also enjoying my front facing speakers and ability to easily hold my phone without accidentally interacting with the screen thanks to those slightly larger bezels.... and a fingerprint reader so i can have the phone unlocked BEFORE it's even in front of my face. I'm also enjoying the fact that SHOULD i ever drop my phone (which i've never done), it's ALUMINUM body won't shatter like the glass iPhone 8/X.

Sure apple has messaging but Google wins on the rest of the ecosystem. Google Home > Homepod, Google Assistant > Siri, Google Play Music > Apple Music, Google Docs, Photos, etc > iWork/Photos.
The HomePod isn’t even out yet, can we stop drawing ridiculous conclusions like this. And I vehemently disagree on the music (it would be an absolute shutout if youtube red wasn’t included) and photos front.

Hey guys

What is the wallpaper at 6:50 in the video? Is it a one from apple?

Another irony is you can charge your Pixel with a MacBook charger thanks to USB-C but macOS won't recognize it. I truly believe the best Androids for Mac need to have a microSD card. Just buy a hub for the MB. That's Pixel 2 XL's biggest Achilles heel to me. Not the display.

The lack of microSD slot burns the bridge at transferring files with macOS, the Apple OS I prefer much more than iOS. Going to wait on Sony. Their Z5, X, and XZ models were never appealing enough thanks to those ugly bezels and not excelling in display and camera. If you use Mac, Pixel 2 XL has too many red flags. Better off with a Samsung, LG, or any device with microSD.

I talked to my Stepdad yesterday and he likes the Note8 but will wait another year to upgrade again. Doesn't like S7e for the curved edges. He told me how Google has made it more difficult when connecting Android to Windows PC. Back in the KitKat days, it was way easier. I agreed. He needed my help to transfer photos from his S7e to PC and I told him to just insert the microSD using SD adapter into the hard drive.

The fastest and easiest way if you want to transfer files isn't connecting your phone to a computer but really inserting a memory card into it. My transfer speeds using an SD adapter is also way faster than using iTunes. Main reason why I also avoid the Chinese like Huawei and Xiaomi with their PC Suite nonsense. MicroSD slot is also better for future proofing your storage.

Pixel 2 XL looks to be a great phone but just not for me who prefers my MBA over it. Mobile OSes are still not up to par with desktop OSes where you can open up multiple tabs while listening to the YouTube video in the background. Current iPhones including the X don't even have PiP and split-screen for two apps like iPads and Android. The X doesn't even have landscape mode for homescreen like the Plus models do.

I checked out the X at a Verizon store (plenty in stock on launch day) and definitely noticed a lower build quality within seconds after picking it up. The screen quality is muted by the obnoxious notch. It's fast and has great software but the hardware edge was squandered by dividing resources between two phone models when only the best was market driven. How much could Apple lower the price and boost production if they didn't waste efforts on the "8"?

The main difference is that with Apple, YOU are the tester!
You could level that same criticism at Googles doorstep and you wouldn't be wrong. Just look at Androids sloppy implementations of Facial Recognition and Finger print sensor (when it was initially released). The Pixel is using LGs crap displays that have all kinds of issues. Then you have some Pixel phones shipping without the OS.

Now that the new 2017 flagship smartphones from both Google and Apple are available and in the hands of consumers, we thought we'd compare Apple's iPhone X with the Google Pixel 2 XL to see how these two devices measure up.

In the video below, we took a look at specific features of both phones, including design, hardware, camera and display, along with each device's unique features like Face ID and Active Edge. We also compared what it's like using each phone on a day to day basis to give an overall picture of the similarities and differences between each of the devices.

Both the Google Pixel 2 XL and the iPhone X have high price points ($849 for the former and $999 for the latter), and similar display sizes at 5.8 inches for the iPhone X and 6 inches for the Pixel 2 XL.

Inside, the iPhone X has a custom Apple-designed A11 processor, while the Pixel 2 XL features a Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 chip. In raw benchmarks, the iPhone X outperforms the Pixel 2 XL, but the differences in processor and GPU speed aren't as noticeable in real world usage. When it comes to intensive tasks, though, the iPhone X will handily outperform the Pixel 2 XL.

Both devices feature OLED displays, but the iPhone X's display is leagues better than the OLED display of the Pixel 2 XL. The Pixel 2 XL is plagued by serious display issues that have been making headlines for the last couple of weeks, including burn-in and bizarre color variations.

iPhone X and Pixel 2 XL both have impressive cameras and produce some amazing photos, but the Pixel 2 XL does a lot of what the iPhone X can do with just a single camera. Apple's iPhone X is equipped with dual 12-megapixel rear cameras, one with an f/1.8 wide-angle lens and the second with an f/2.4 telephoto lens, while the Pixel 2 XL is sporting just a single f/1.8 12-megapixel camera.

As for front-facing cameras, the Pixel 2 XL has an f/2.4 8-megapixel camera while the iPhone X is sporting an f/2.2 7-megapixel camera that also happens to be equipped with an additional infrared camera, sensor, and dot projector to enable Face ID, one of the flagship iPhone X features that gives the iPhone X an edge over the Pixel 2 XL.

Face ID has proven to be largely fast and accurate, making it an improvement over fingerprint sensing technology. Pixel 2 XL continues to offer a fingerprint sensor, albeit a fast and accurate one. Active Edge, the Pixel 2 XL's distinguishing feature, lets users squeeze the sides of the device to quickly activate Google Assistant. Speaking of Google Assistant, that's another feature where the Pixel 2 XL has an edge over the iPhone X -- many believe Google Assistant is more useful than Siri.

Pixel 2 XL has a larger battery than the iPhone X (though the iPhone X wins out in some battery life tests), but it doesn't offer the same Qi wireless charging functionality that's available in the iPhone X. It charges over USB-C, though, while the iPhone X continues to use a proprietary Lightning port for non-wireless charging purposes. Neither device has a headphone jack, as Google followed in Apple's footsteps and opted to rely solely on wireless technology.

So which of these devices is better? It's impossible to say. Both the iPhone X and the Google Pixel 2 XL are entirely different platforms, and each one is the best in its respective category. There are some things the Google Pixel 2 XL does better than the iPhone X, and some things the iPhone X does better than the Google Pixel 2 XL. Choosing one really comes down to the ecosystem you prefer -- iOS or Android.

You've obviously never even looked at a Pixel 2 because it is not a plastic phone, it's an aluminium uni-body and that's a fact. The bezels are smaller than the iPhone 8 AND they provide front-facing speakers, worth the small bezels by far. The screen is more natural and doesn't artificially pop, but it does have blue-shift if you look at it off-axis.

iPhone X only has 5.5 of usable screen. What Apple actually gave you was the same amount of screen in a smaller package. That's not an advantage over the Pixel 2 XL. Pixel 2 XL's screen is bigger and the device is only slightly larger.

Every Pixel user has a crap screen, plastic phone, and huge bezels. I'm not sure what you are saying here. Both of this year's Pixels are made of metal, the screens is not great on the XL but the regular Pixel 2 has a great screen. Are You are referring to now ? Given they have left the pro and enterprise sectors ?

My view is also that they have become a Sony , consumer electronics, music, and now TV.

For me it's simple, how do (did) they make their revenue ? Via hardware sales .

Apple is a consumer products company and the consumer product is hardware. They are a hardware company by definition. The price of admission to any piece of Apple software or services is to buy a piece of hardware..

You explained it much better than me :)
