Rather that kissing google a.. on a site that should be about apple products, why don’t you fix your crappy scrolling adds issue????

Now that the new 2017 flagship smartphones from both Google and Apple are available and in the hands of consumers, we thought we'd compare Apple's iPhone X with the Google Pixel 2 XL to see how these two devices measure up.

In the video below, we took a look at specific features of both phones, including design, hardware, camera and display, along with each device's unique features like Face ID and Active Edge. We also compared what it's like using each phone on a day to day basis to give an overall picture of the similarities and differences between each of the devices.

Both the Google Pixel 2 XL and the iPhone X have high price points ($849 for the former and $999 for the latter), and similar display sizes at 5.8 inches for the iPhone X and 6 inches for the Pixel 2 XL.

Inside, the iPhone X has a custom Apple-designed A11 processor, while the Pixel 2 XL features a Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 chip. In raw benchmarks, the iPhone X outperforms the Pixel 2 XL, but the differences in processor and GPU speed aren't as noticeable in real world usage. When it comes to intensive tasks, though, the iPhone X will handily outperform the Pixel 2 XL.

Both devices feature OLED displays, but the iPhone X's display is leagues better than the OLED display of the Pixel 2 XL. The Pixel 2 XL is plagued by serious display issues that have been making headlines for the last couple of weeks, including burn-in and bizarre color variations.

iPhone X and Pixel 2 XL both have impressive cameras and produce some amazing photos, but the Pixel 2 XL does a lot of what the iPhone X can do with just a single camera. Apple's iPhone X is equipped with dual 12-megapixel rear cameras, one with an f/1.8 wide-angle lens and the second with an f/2.4 telephoto lens, while the Pixel 2 XL is sporting just a single f/1.8 12-megapixel camera.

As for front-facing cameras, the Pixel 2 XL has an f/2.4 8-megapixel camera while the iPhone X is sporting an f/2.2 7-megapixel camera that also happens to be equipped with an additional infrared camera, sensor, and dot projector to enable Face ID, one of the flagship iPhone X features that gives the iPhone X an edge over the Pixel 2 XL.

Face ID has proven to be largely fast and accurate, making it an improvement over fingerprint sensing technology. Pixel 2 XL continues to offer a fingerprint sensor, albeit a fast and accurate one. Active Edge, the Pixel 2 XL's distinguishing feature, lets users squeeze the sides of the device to quickly activate Google Assistant. Speaking of Google Assistant, that's another feature where the Pixel 2 XL has an edge over the iPhone X -- many believe Google Assistant is more useful than Siri.

Pixel 2 XL has a larger battery than the iPhone X (though the iPhone X wins out in some battery life tests), but it doesn't offer the same Qi wireless charging functionality that's available in the iPhone X. It charges over USB-C, though, while the iPhone X continues to use a proprietary Lightning port for non-wireless charging purposes. Neither device has a headphone jack, as Google followed in Apple's footsteps and opted to rely solely on wireless technology.

So which of these devices is better? It's impossible to say. Both the iPhone X and the Google Pixel 2 XL are entirely different platforms, and each one is the best in its respective category. There are some things the Google Pixel 2 XL does better than the iPhone X, and some things the iPhone X does better than the Google Pixel 2 XL. Choosing one really comes down to the ecosystem you prefer -- iOS or Android.

This video speed review mentally deficient. Because people use apps in a last in/first out manner, reversing through 15 apps. All this test aims to do is show that the samsung has an extra gig of ram for caching. yea, average person uses 15 apps a day, what a load.

Yea, we'll also complete ignore processing power, you know, because apple's processor bitch slaps the piece of garbage battery eating crud in the samsung into the trash heap it deserves to be. Because who needs augmented reality, who needs real time video and photo processing that happens all the time on the iPhone.

A samsung apologist soliloquy. Congratulations to the idiot setting up that straw man video. I love android fanboi's contrived desperation.

Even as unoptimized as iOS 11 is at the moment, the A11 is superior to the Snapdragon 835. Even the a10 is superior to the 835.
Yet still in speed tests the pixel is faster on every app except games. Apple fans said to wait on 11.1 and even after 11.1 it's the same result.

I prefer the rear camera on the iPhone X. Battery and charging difference is minimal. Speakers are probably the same. The screen on the Pixel XL 2 is unacceptable for an $850 phone. Build quality on the iPhone X is vastly superior. Snapdragon 835 is equivalent to a 1-2yr old Apple chip, which is also unacceptable for that price.

You’re essentially paying a premium for stock Android, which is kind of absurd.

There shouldn’t be any Android phone over $800, except for maybe the Note 8.
Many prefer the pixel 2xl camera so okay they are on par. Speakers are probably the same? How so? Did you test them yourself or are you making random assumptions? The speakers are better on the pixel 2xl.

How is build quality superior? You keep saying this.

Yet the snapdragon 835 keeps pace with apple a11 chip. Apple fans a few years ago was all about, it's not about the numbers. Now the numbers are better on iPhones so it's all about the numbers. Yet in real world usage the 835 is close to the A11 chip. Either that or Android is much more optimized and faster than iOS. So what is it? 835 is way behind or iOS is way behind Android in optimization?

These phones aren't even on the same planet, for me personally.

The Pixel has an excellent camera but:
  • Mostly Plastic
  • Has Huge Bezels
  • An inferior OLED from LG. Color shift. Burn in.
  • Less premium build quality
  • Generally Ugly
  • No wireless charging.
  • Removed headphone jack after making fun of Apple...loses all credibility

WOW, you iSheep are truly like the GOP of tech world. Uneducated and clueless when it comes to facts.

1) Mostly plastics? You mean mostly aluminum body (hence why no wireless charging) and some glass. Very premium build.
2) Huge bezels? All of a sudden you guys are masters in bezels? Have you seen iPhone 8 and before? Just shut up.
3) Inferior OLED from LG with color shift? Read Apple's own words that warn you color shift will happen on iPhone X at angles, because guess what? OLED DISPLAY. Also, read on Apple's page, burn ins happen on OLEDs.
4) Less premium build quality? See #1. Also, last time I checked, Pixel did not shatter when dropped.
5) Generally ugly? Have you seen the forehead on iPhone X? Let's not cast stones here haha
6) No wireless charging? See #1. Also, your iPhone X is using wireless charging tech from years ago, Samsung is years ahead.
7) Loses all credibility? So did you the moment you wrote this comment being clueless to the facts.

Actually, the inability to Bluetooth transfer on my Pixel wasn't exclusive with apk files. I couldn't really transfer files on it, period. Not even songs or videos. I just find the irony that Pixel is the iPhone of the Android world and Google preached openness but is no longer that way. They became as restrictive as Apple!

While Apple is kinda being a little more open but not quite where Android was years ago. With iOS, you can delete songs and videos on your iPhone. Something that used to tick me off back on iPod and the early iPhone days. You still can't delete photos from an album. Only photos from the camera roll.

If you want long-term UI fluidity on Android, no carrier bloatware, and faster and longer updates, then Pixel is the only way to go though. I'm going Sony even though this isn't the Sony I once remembered. It's like Apple. They both peaked in luster and magic years ago.

Most of what I feel with Sony or Nokia is nostalgic but neither will recover that brilliance they once had. Other than video games, movies, and p&s cameras, Sony is generally a joke to most consumers. Like that Gotye song, this isn't the Sony that I used to know.

Marry Pixel 2 XL /Android
F iPhone X
Kill Samsung? Nah, X wouldn't exist without it. Most phones wouldn't without Samsung's help.

I look at iPhone X as a female I want to have a short-term fling with it. Fun in the beginning with the new gesture swipes and Animoji before boredom settles in. With Pixel 2 XL, it's the Maryann over Ginger thing. More understated. More practical. The problem is Pixels aren't as open as other Androids.

Vanilla Android is also kinda overrated. Boring as hell. Other OEMs will customize it with their own flavor to differentiate and sometimes their way is superior to Google's way. Like how is it possible to use Samsung Pay on a Pixel? You can't. No MST on the back. Stuck with the inferior Android Pay.

If someone put a gun to my head and made me pick one, then I will go with the iPhone X. Has more fun factor and more lust worthy. Probably will bore me eventually like the Nintendo Wii motion controls but something a little different to try out.

Advantage with iPhones is being unscathed by carriers, cheapest in US, and resell value is high. I could get iPhone X now and sell it THREE months and still get the same amount on how much I paid for it. The moment you open the box of an Android device, it loses $200 in value on the spot.

Yet still in speed tests the pixel is faster on every app except games. Apple fans said to wait on 11.1 and even after 11.1 it's the same result.

I'm sorry, but let's recap Pixel 2/XL issues:

  • Grainy LED panel provided by LG, check
  • Burn-in on 2-week old LED green, check
  • Ships with missing accessories in the box, check
  • Ships with NO OPERATING SYSTEM, check
Who's the tester???

From Apple:“If you look at an OLED display off-angle, you might notice slight shifts in color and hue.’ [writes Apple] "This is a characteristic of OLED and is normal behaviour. With extended long-term use, OLED displays can also show slight visual changes. This is also expected behavior and can include “image persistence” or ‘burn-in,’ where the display shows a faint remnant of an image even after a new image appears on the screen.”

Next, also from Apple: “We are aware of instances where the iPhone X screen will become temporarily unresponsive to touch after a rapid change to a cold environment,” said Apple in response to The Loop when asked about the iPhone X cold weather issue. “After several seconds the screen will become fully responsive again. This will be addressed in an upcoming software update.”

Next, the green line

When Apple released iPhone 8 it blows everyone in the competition and I was like wow A11 chip was way ahead and powerful. The GeekBench was ridiculously fast and reviews touting this is almost as fast as the MacBook Pro. I had doubts which seems fishy to me because this GeekBench test was little bit skewed as opposed to competition. The number is way off the chart which seems true when comparison is made iPhone. Then there’s the “what ifs” meaning what if the phone drives a more power hungry high res display in this case the iPhone X. Now we got a much closer comparison. Apple was so smart to strategically released the iPhone 8 first and reviews was praisiing how A11 Bionic chip was twice faster than competition until I saw this. Never thought this is how it ends up but I’m glad it is, which means a good competition must go on.

That's interesting! Especially considering this where the iPhone 6S does a better job than the Samsung S8:

Is it the higher resolution display on the Iphone X that does it? Is it Android 7.1.1 that is more lightweight compared to iOS 11.1?

whats disappointing about the iPhone X is the Corner to Corner Full Screen no home button. I just recently picked up the iPhone X its smalller than the iPhone 6 plus! on top of that when playing a game like Kingdom Hearts or Final Fantasy i noticed that the Video games are not corner to corner full screened as they're two black bars when playing either game. Youtube is the same way i couldnt watch youtube video in full screen. Then when you try and text someone theres a big gray wasted space between the spacebar like wow i just like everything is so cramped on this phone. I figured when Apple announced 5.7 screen i thought oh something bigger then the iPhone Pluses. Then again my only flaw is the software, maybe the developers of the games can fix their resolution problems. i am just not sold on the iPhone X i rather return it and get my money back and stay with my iPhone 6 plus

Dan, in the future consider avoiding declaring your evaluation as “unbiased”. That’s a conclusion the readers/viewers make based on your comments. You may strive for it, but we decide if we think you were. Just say you tried to be unbiased and you hope we think you accomplished it.

You are aware that the video you are referring to was posted on YouTube, who are owned by Google, who makes the Android operating system. Yet I bet you claim you don't use Google products.

I picked up my X yesterday. I was nervous and didn't trade in my iPhone 7, as I was worried about no home button and if the lack of fingerprint sensor would irritate me. OMG, how wrong I was. Face ID has blown me away, the new gestures have taken only taken a couple of hours to become normal and now my iPhone 7 feels like a relic that I will give to my baby sitter for Christmas! Even the dreaded 'notch' just seems to work, I see now why Apple don't want to hide it, it just works and there is something special about this phone. Something I haven't felt with an iPhone since the iPhone 4 (and no, not just because its all glass). The iPhone 4 is the only iPhone I have actually kept as a keep sake; there is something I actually love about it, its size, weight, overall beauty. The iPhone X has done that too me again, and when it comes time to retire the X, it will no doubt sit along side the 4 on my shelf of old tech I love!

Only Android phone that is smooth and has easily the best smartphone camera ever and no body would be interested? It also has a chip that can do over 3 trillions OPS.

Front portrait mode also and no other. Simply bizzare comment.

Sony Xperia is as smooth, has 4K screen, 960fps slow-motion capture and the best overall video recording out of all smartphones. It also has integrated 3D scanner.

iPhone X is clearly far superior to the Pixel. And Apple is pushing the boundaries of user experience in a much more polished and usable way than Google. And as others have noted, Apple actually cares about privacy and respects their customers instead of exploiting them as Google does.

No brainer: X

Apple is not pushing UX boundaries at all, they are rehashing something that's been done half a decade ago

Ooooops, looks like your expanding iPhone X Battery is creating the Green Line of Death on your screens. You Spoke too soon I guess. Enjoy paying more and getting less! PS - what happened to iphone 9? silly apple.

or their translation headphones. Game over... software beats hardware.

Rather have a better camera since I know I’m using that more. Don’t know how many times I’ll need live translation...

Wife just got pixel 2 today. Next to X? Feels cheap. Plastic. Dated hardware. Just no comparison.
How does the Pixel 2 feel compared to the iPhone 8? As that is the phone it is competing with on price.

Finger print sensor on the back... no thanks. I’d prefer a larger chin.
What is your objection to the fingerprint scanner being on the back? I personally perfer it on the back to one the front at the bottom of the phone. It is easier to touch now that phone have got larger (>4.5")

I will never understand customization on a phone. Why? The only person who will see it at the end of the day is you. All it does is make your phone slower and wastes space.
Customizations on Android don't phone slower and wastes space to any significant degree.
The fact that only you and some friends and family will see your customizations is part of the point, your phone is set up the way you want it set up.
While I agree that you don't need to completely customize every aspect of your phone, it is nice to get able to customize to some extent. The fact users who want to can customize every aspect of a phone, doesn't negatively impact you or me who don't.
To take non-customization to an extreme: Should Apple not allow people to change the default background image or put the apps they use most on the first screen of their iPhone?

"not being biased" iPhone X is a 8 with an 8+ screen hahahah i have an X and my friend has a 7+ and i can confirm that the X does no were have an 8+ screen we have a Tall Skinny aka small screen .. let alone when running apps that are not yet compatible with the X.. take instagram as an example...
