So I've got a game that's relevant, but non-spoilerish.

What announcement/news would a company, group, person have to have to overshadow today's Apple announcement(s) (and yes, obviously there is a range that this announcement could take)? In other words, what out there could generate more "buzz", i.e. internet searches, discussion, not just news stories?

---One rule (besides no spoilers). The event must not include any deaths. It would be too easy to make it be a list of tragedies and catastrophies.

I'll start
---Windows 8 will be released in February (It would be such a huge, and unrealistic, surprise, that it would eclipse whatever Apple is doing)
---Google and China have come to an agreement to allow Chinese citizens unrestricted access to the internet.
---Blackberry... goes out of business. I can't think of any other announcement that would overshadow Apple, unless perhaps they bought Palm Inc.
---Barack Obama gets an iPhone... and shows everyone how cool it is during the State of the Union.
---The Senate votes down Ben Bernanke's reappointment as Chair of the Federal Reserve (amazingly, Apple might get more press initially, but than the stock market would lose 1,000 points)
---J.K. Rowling announces an 8th Harry Potter book.
---James Cameron announces a sequel to Avatar.
---Lady Gaga announces that she bought a shirt from the Gap.
---Joe Biden releases his memoirs, which contain approximately 2,500+ pages of direct quotes of the Gaffes he has made since 2000.
---Sarah Palin... sneezes.

Hello to everyone:)

I'm also trying to get spoiler free as much as possible, Apple has updated the site, goddam Top sites from Safari just spoiled me.. hopefuly It won't take long for the keynote to go live to.

@DyingSun Portugal here to:D

I found this topic very entertaining. I think I can go on with a (paper) book till midnight and wait for a video. But the question is if the video will work on ipod touch ?

In my experience, the stream always works much better on my iPhone than on my Mac, YMMV.

These threads are great, every time. There's just this sense of community, that we're all in the ONLY safe place on the internet, you know... ;-)

So, where are you guys from and what time is it over there?

Lisbon, Portugal, here. 8 PM. Planning to stay awake, no matter how long it takes...

I'm in Los Angeles, California so 12:10pm over here. :) Trying to work with loud music over my headphones - don't want to hear spoilers from my co-workers.

Fun game onion :) at this point, nothing probably. How about Bill Gates personally announcing a new Zune :)

as far as I know James Cameron has announced an Avatar sequel, there's a trilogy planned infact. Avatar has also just officially beat titantic to become the worlds number 1 grossing movie after just 41 days. Odd to think that 42 days ago everyone predicted it would be total suckage!

If that proves too easy, you can always try first person tetris, its a bit of a mind flay until you get the hang of it.

I get sick whenever I play that!

And may I also say that I cannot believe the audacity of the President doing the State of the Union on the same day as the Apple Keynote.... Who does he think he is; Steve Jobs?!?

I'm on the east coast of the US and I will not wait until 8 PM to get the keynote.

I know it's been asked and answered, I'm just too lazy to do the time conversion; when will I be able to see the keynote?

Well, luckily I'm not at work anymore, so the only thing I have to take care about is preventing my wife from watching any news on TV. :D

I'm leaving the thread for a while now - dinner's ready! Will be back soon...

Ah!!! First-Person Tetris is giving me a headache! So much so that I've forgotten what this thread is about. - Have Apple just had a keynote or something? Thats how much I'm blocking it out of my head and fighting the urge to go to Apple.com - its hard being a first time Spoiler-Free-er, its like going cold turkey!!

Gah....I went on Facebook for ONE SECOND, to check my messages, and I saw a status about Apple...

I won't ruin it for you guys though.

don't click on my links

Ok, just in case there are some people from the "outside world" who are lurking here, and willing to check something out, supposedly CNN had a 20-minute delay video. Can anyone confirm this?

I got the info from this link [CAREFUL - MAY CONTAIN SPOILERS]: http://www.ihackintosh.com/2010/01/watch-apple-tablet-event-online-audio-video-streaming/

I repeat, the only people who should follow that are people who have already been spoiled and are willing to check it out for me.

I just don't know if I can wait another 3+ hours, so I'm willing to go with an unofficial feed.

I bet he takes more than $1 a year as a salary as well!! The cheek of it!!

I appreciate the positive feedback! :)

if it was open source I'd put it on my own server and let it refresh every second for personal use :p
Why not? I could post the source code if there's enough demand for it. I just don't want everyone to laugh at my sloppy coding :p

What a wonderful surprise, Master Voidness!

(although I must confess I was expecting something to entertain us during the long wait :D)
Ah well, I apologize for getting your hopes up. :)

So void is now lazy? Having a script check the Apple site for him?
j/k void, thank you very much!
Yeah, I'm getting old and lazy. :) Clicking that reload button continuously for hours was just too much. I made the script so everyone can relax and enjoy the stay here inside the confines of the spoiler-free world :)

im doing the same thing here in school... people are what i talking about what i presume is the keynote but im blasting this really cool club mix that one of my friends gave me a couple weeks ago... its an hour 15 minutes long so i figure i can listen to that really really loudly, then itll be time for swim practice after which ill go home do hw eat dinner and then *hopefully* the link will be posted!

Fun game onion :) at this point, nothing probably. How about Bill Gates personally announcing a new Zune :)

haha ya im pretty sure there is a trilogy planned.

Sweden 21:15 here, spamming the Apple events page like crazzy.

How do you watch it on the iphone? The same link?
http://www.apple.com/quicktime/guide/appleevents/

and no... once the link has been posted just click on it and the video will start playing... it works pretty well

Montpellier France here... I have three exams tomorrow, so I hope to be ready for them, because studying should keep me away from lurking the facebook and other dangerous sites... I also have have troubles with time conversions.. plus i dont even know what time the vent started.. but you guys think (i hope nobody knows) that the event is already over?

Odd to think that 42 days ago everyone predicted it would be total suckage!

That's because it is total suckage. Now I thought the graphics were amazing but the story was terrible. Terrible. I've watched Home Alone 4 (and spoilers of the movie ahead) it snowed at the end on command. Yes, on command. It sucked. But Avatar's story sucked more. If there wasn't good graphics then no one would watch it; And for good reason. The way I describe Avatar is this:

It's like the studio's thought "Hey! Why don't we make a tech demo into a full length feature film! And while we're at it let's put in something environmental against Dubya!"

And while I agree with the environmental statement I don't need to be told it every single second in a film!

King Mook Mook

And about the keynote I thought of a quote from Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory that applies to the wait.

The suspense is terrible... I hope it will last! :p
