Finally

So It begins... (cue dramatic music)

Seriously, I must say that following this thread (as a guest) is the most fun you can have waiting for the Jobs. I´ve been here for the last three, or so, keynotes. So I guess it´s time for me to become a member. Well here I am, let´s rock´n roll!

I can´t wait to see what surprises Voidness has in store for us.

Let me just end this post by saying; It´s good to be among friends! :)

/Howthor

PS. Us european guys should sleep a lot these two upcoming nights, since the keynote usually comes on really late. DS.

Wait time for upload

So, I read 7-8 hrs is how long it has taken (recently) for the video upload...but I thought I remember a time where it was much less. Does anyone have any statistics on upload times for the last several events??

Man I love this site! I'm new here, so let me start by saying hello and nice to meet you all! :D I never even thought about going spoiler-free until I saw this thread, but I love the idea! This means I will have to resist watching the liveblog on the computer during my Engineering class. Wouldn't you know it, I'm in a computer lab, in the far back of the room, right as the event starts! How convenient :p (at least until now that is). How early do you recommend I go cold turkey on the internet to avoid any spoilers?

Wednesday can't come soon enough!
Mike

Spoiler free is the way to go. Much more exciting to see the build up of the keynote than just read a random headline on Yahoo or one of the news sites.

Going to be hard to hold back from going online during work on Wednesday. Nothing is safe.

What exactly is a spoiler free keynote thread?

When Steve jumps on the stage and presents the tablet, the thread just reads: Steve jumps the stage. (and doesn't mention the tablet, so as not to spoil the surprise for everyone) ?

we talk about anything but apple... anything that could hint at whats going on during the stream we dont want untill weve watched it

As a newbie to the spoiler-free stream, how long does it usually take for the stream to be uploaded??

ive done this for every apple keynote since mswf08 and ive seen anywhere from 4-10 hours

The problem with the "spoiler-free" link is the bottom page which lists the recent news/rumors.

https://www.macrumors.com/2010/01/24/january-2010-media-event-spoiler-free-keynote-stream/

Here is the screenshot of the problem with that page

ya... thats why we dont go to anypage except for this and the stream when void posts it

going to be my first time! Looking forward to the suprises :)

its lots of fun... tons of excitement when you watch it

Patience has always been a problem with me...even on my nearly 27th year, I'm still having issues with it...I've been waiting for the macbook pro 17" refresh many many months so fingers are crossed that we'll see it on wednesday. It's been a long wait for my first mac!

Watching the keynote instead of constantly updating to see the next screen shot, or clicking through apple.com for the past couple keynotes hasn't been as fun as when I used to watch the streamed video's..

Here's hoping that the link will be posted in this thread (a PM would be even cooler!) and that people posting in here will please respect not to state facts and info about the keynote (I'm sure there are PLENTY of other threads to do that in) - I wanna watch this thing without any prior knowledge other than the thousands of rumors that have been piling in.

im really excited for this one... it reminds me of the iphone keynote where no one really knew what was going to happen... it should be good

Due to the launch of the official "spoiler-free" thread, I will no longer post the link.

sounds good... thanks for the offer... void said hell get it so no big deal... you gonna go spoiler free instead?/

Greetings fellow veterans.

And welcome to any spoilerfree rooks.

Here's to hoping the video will come out before midnight CET.

it should be hopefully... im hoping for before 6pm CST

Hi, everybody!

Great to be back for a new Keynote, and it looks very promising: a tantalizing invitation, many rumors but somehow not that much information, a lot of chance for surprises. It's looking good.

Anyhow, this will be a tricky one for me personally. The Keynote starts at 7pm my time, which means the stream mostly comes up around midnight, one o'clock. However, this time I'm attending a 'nerd'-themed party hosted by a lovely girl-geek, but with a lot of non-geeks. So in the best case, we'll watch it together unspoiled, in the worst case, I get all the info right after the announcements.

Anyway, I couldn't imagine anything more geeky than being giddy as a schoolboy about a product announcement and begging everyone to shut up about the new apple product(s)

So, that's my introduction to the thread. In closing I'd like to add a few Spoiler-free etiquette rules for the ones who are new here:
-No information about anything announced or who is announcing. (duh)
-No information on AAPL stock
-No reactions, however cryptic ("it's definitly (not) worth the wait", for example)
-No fake links. Seriously. I will come to where ever you live and shove your iPhone were even Google can't find it.

-as for how long the keynote was, that seems to be considered a non-spoiler, if only to give us a clue at how long it will take to get the stream up. But correct me if I'm wrong.

thanks for giving out those pointers... they covered everything really well... the stock is a big one as some have said something about it not realizing that it is infact a spoiler... as far as how long it lasts, some people dont want to know that because they feel that itll show how long it took to announce everything and they theyll make theories about whether thats good or bad but others dont mind so i guess it really doesnt matter

Hello everyone!

This must be the most exciting keynote since the iPhone announcement 3 years ago. As usual, I'll be here to post the link to the video stream. However this time I'm preparing a little surprise, in hopes that it'll make waiting for the link to come up a little easier. Hopefully it'll be done by then.

See you on Wednesday. :)

thanks for doing it again!... looking forward to that supprise :)

I'll try to get a link for you guys

ive been doing it for every keynote since mwsf08 and have seen anywhere from 4-10 hours... hoping itll be relatively short this time around but who knows

glad your joining us... as far as staying spoiler free... i close everything except for this page and dont venture anywhere else on the web... no email google reader nothing... infact ive set this as my homepage already so im prepared for when the event starts... should be a good one!

So I keep seeing other sites posting that Apple's Media will be tomorrow: Tuesday, the 26th. What gives? Is it the 27TH or the 26TH :D

Thanks for keeping the thread alive guys/gals! And thanks again Voidness (you took the hit last time IIRC)

To recap:
1. There is now an official MacRumors Spoiler-free Event but there are spoilers elsewhere on that very page
https://www.macrumors.com/2010/01/24/january-2010-media-event-spoiler-free-keynote-stream/

2. I will update the first post in this thread with the link once available. In the past, links have been available within 2 hours and almost as long as 8 hours. So be patient.

3. Please, don't mention any sort of rumors, Apple stock info, or anything from the keynote. Even saying "Steve is doing the keynote!!" is a spoiler.

Thanks guys!!!

Yay!
This thread is the most fun thread to be around an Apple event.

This is my third year that I'm spoiler free.

Well, completely spoiler free is impossible, because all the news sites write something about this Apple event. Even on the radio I heard something about the rumors.

No radio or news sites for me on Wednesday. Since there is no way to get a live video feed of the event I'm going to tough it out, and work like a dog at the office to get my mind off the apple event till Wednesday night. :p

Why is the Apple stock info considered a spoiler ?!
Because for example a 50% decrease in stock would most definitely mean that NO TABLET was introduced.
No matter how the stock fluctuates, people in this thread would try to interpret it and discuss what it could possibly mean.

I have to say, the last few keynotes have taken a good time to get online. A lot of people here are from around the GMT time zones, and it's always a tough decision to eiter stay awake and hope for the keynote to get online, or go to bed and watch it first thing in the morning.

I usually chose the first option, but this time I would recommend for anyone east of Greenwich to wait go to sleep at their usual hour, and get up a bit earlier to watch the stream. If you stay up til 2pm, and then start watching the keynote, you won't enjoy it as much imo. Especially since lately a lot of the keynote has been filled up with demo's showing the exact same thing as was said 5 minutes earlier. I sometimes just skip ahead whenever I see the fancy italic 'demo'

Come on, Something new is coming this wednesday, Steve himself said it, and it won't be another macbook... I am going cold turkey in a few hours, but I think a stock quote won't hurt

Nice to be back! This is so much fun!

AAPL stock is a good indicator of how much the new product delivers on the high expectations. If it's just another e-reader or simply a blown-up ipod touch, you could expect a drop, if it has a lot of clever features and redefines the market, stock could sky-rocket.

So, it's nice to watch it without knowing if it's gonna be a good or bad announcement.

If it's still not clear, watch this clip from the Big Bang theory. At 1:23, it shows just how commited we are to the spoiler-free idea.

I'm a Spoiler-Free virgin but I think that this keynote should be worth it. I've only been on the Mac scene since the unibody macbook keynote in autumn 08 and new apple products/announcements since then have been good updates but nothing mind blowing like the introduction of the ipod or iphone. - here's hoping for tomorrow!!

Do you guys know if this topic will give the links to all the different quality videos? I would definitely like to watch the high or HD stream if possible.

Here's a list of things to remember if you are going to be on your Mac while waiting for the stream:
  • Turn off all instant messengers including twitter-clients
  • Turn off automatic updates in iTunes and all other programs that could possibly be updated (iLife, iWork, etc.)
  • Turn off checking for updates in System Preferences
  • Turn off Safaris "Top Sites"
  • Don't click on any links provided in this thread until someone you trust (e.g. Voidness) validates it
  • Shutdown Mail

You may also want to subscribe to the Apple Keynote Podcast in iTunes (last time it was updated about the same time as the apple homepage) but be careful: the description of it might contain spoilers like "Watch Apple CEO Steve Jobs unveil …".

typically the mediocre quality quicktime stream is the first up, the HD podcast is usually a bit later. You will find links to both videos here. The stream is usually very watchable (I think 480p), although high traffic has caused some problems in the past.

Make sure no spoilers come through other media: Don't watch any tv, don't answer phone calls, read sms, or talk to any suspect apple fanboys... And yes, no stock quotes. Thanks

cant wait

Been a guest for so many years but felt the need to register and keep post to this thread for the link. Cannot wait for this monumental event and glad to be gettin my geek on!!:)

im so glad i came across this thread! Otherwise I wouldn't have even thought to go spoiler free but having read the posts in here and seen how serious everyone is about not having any spoilers, AND the fact that this should hopefully be a historic podcast (ie iPod 2001, iPhone 2007), I am very excited.
